The document evaluates the effectiveness of combining a main film production with ancillary texts like a poster and film review. It describes how the poster evolved to clearly represent the main protagonist as a victim and feature the antagonist to indicate he is a problem. Photos were chosen and directed to communicate an uncomfortable atmosphere and intrigue audiences. The color theme and fonts were also selected to link the ancillary texts and film production together in a professional way and promote the serious and sensitive themes of the drama thriller genre. Feedback confirmed the ancillary texts looked appropriate for the film and effectively captured its tone through the photos and design elements while maintaining connections to the production.

How effective is the combination of your main product and
your ancillary texts? My ancillary tasks made it clear there was a genre of drama thriller through the camera angles I used. It was a trial and error process because I initially had a poster that didnt clearly represent my character as a victim, because she was emotionless in the face. There was a clear indication that my protagonist was in a similar location seen as in the opening of my film, where she is surrounded by a rural environment of nature and greenery. This was important to link when creating my ancillary so my audience were able to associate the character and familiarise themselves with where she is located in the production. Having my antagonist featured in the poster was most important and so was another development from the original draft where he did not. As I had only 2 main characters, the poster represented this by the placing. Faith is centred and Luke is positioned slightly behind her. This is effective as it will indicate to my target audience that he is in some way a problem to my antagonist. Similar to my actress, I directed Michael when taking his photo so he appeared to be aggressive and threatening, through his ceased eye brows and cold glare at the camera. Combining their photos on the poster made it immediately clear that the narrative would include a victim. This worked as it was bolder due the sinister theme that I had included, which it played on well.
This is the opening
scene of my final production which includes Faith in Hyde Park. The greenery and light shades of yellow is what inspired the colour theme I chose for my ancillary texts, which as a result link
The colour theme also plays an important factor in identifying both
the production and ancillary, making it a more professional approach, similar to how a real life film and poster would be designed. The film review photo was picked based on Faiths body language, as I think this chosen one communicates an uncomfortable and sad atmosphere. This is the type of indication I intended to give the target audience to intrigue them and give them a reason to watch the film. Faith is also seen in her primary happy place, outdoors where she writes her notes in the beginning of the film, however, the angle of her head looking down represents her to be lost and victimised. I felt it would create an opposition to see her less happy in the photo in a place where she is expected to feel most at home. The fonts have been effective as they have also linked with each other and the film in style, using multiple bolds and highlighters for both ancillarys. Certain words such as you and questions in the text have been targeted for this, to constantly make the audience think, just as the voiceover in the film has as Faith asks the audience the concluding question about whether theyd give up the greatest moments in their lives to take away the worst. The combination of the two have been effective because through my audience feedback, they were sure that the ancillary looked appropriate to what they had seen, and for those who hadnt yet seen the production, they thought the poster and film review looked relatable to the type of genre and themes in the production though the chosen photos. For these reasons, I believe the ancillary and production have been effective in promoting the film in the right way; as quite serious and sensitive, whilst maintaining and linking to the production through colour themes and fonts.
