Education industry : IIT coaching institute

Substitute services :
1) E-learning environment
For eg
www.Learnpedia.in
www.amiestudy.com
A student sometimes require the need to compliment the coaching in cases of
1) absenteeism,
2) untimely doubts,
3) unclear concepts
4) uneven pace of studying
These concerns are what the JEE Study Mate addresses. A virtual classroom
offers unparalleled individual attention.
Moreover, an e-learning tool allow students to study anytime and anywhere.
E-learning courses are economical compared to our IIT coaching classroom
learning since there is no operational cost like electricity cost, infrastructure,
maintenance cost and not much capital required.

2) Distance Learning programs (correspondence

courses)
For eg.
Vidyamandir classes, Delhi
Narayana Institute
Aakash institute

3) Concept of coaching within school campus

Educational institutes tie up with coaching centres to help students save time.
You neednt have to rush for IIT-JEE coaching after your classes at your school or
college.
Educational institutes are collaborating with coaching classes to give students
IIT-JEE training on the campus.
As board marks too are counted for engineering and IIT admissions under the
reformed JEE, one has to study hard for both. Realising this, schools are tying up
with coaching institutes to give students the facility on the campus.
IITians PACE, a coaching institute for IIT-JEE has already collaborated with 16
schools/junior colleges and there are more such collaborations lined up.
Resonance, another coaching institute for IIT-JEE preparation, has such
collaborations with some junior colleges across the city (Kota and Delhi).

At KC College, Churchgate, the timetable is mutually decided by college and the

coaching class.
RN Podar School, Santa Cruz, approached PACE to give an integrated training
where students can prepare for boards and IIT simultaneously.
Advantage in terms of cost :
Less cost as commercial land is not required.

4) Satellite learning programs

The Satellite Learning Programme (SLP) Platform enable students to attend live
lectures being held at institutes from their home. This SLP technology deliver realtime both way interactive training from a central location (institute) to any number of
remote sites.
The platform enables delivery of multiple, live synchronous e-learning lessons to an
unlimited number of geographically dispersed students on Projector based classroom
using a friendly student/instructor interaction. It combines high quality bi-directional
video, voice and educational tools like slide projection, white board, chat and
application projection.
This program has been recently started by Bansal classes, Kota and Pischolastics, Chandigarh.
Cost : Initial setup cost is very high.

Digital library vs Library
Example : www.digitallibrary.com

No physical boundary: The user of a digital library need not to go to the

library physically, people from all over the world could gain access to the
same information, as long as an Internet connection is available.
Round the clock availability: Digital libraries can be accessed at any
time, 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year
Multiple accesses: The same resources can be used at the same time by
a number of users.
Structured approach: Digital library provides access to much richer
content in a more structured manner i.e. we can easily move from the
catalog to the particular book then to a particular chapter and so on.
Information retrieval is easy.
Preservation and conservation: An exact copy of the original can be
made any number of times without any degradation in quality.
Space: Whereas traditional libraries are limited by storage space, digital
libraries have the potential to store much more information.

Cost - The cost of maintaining a digital library is much lower than that of a
traditional library. A traditional library must spend large sums of money
paying for staff, book maintains, rent, and additional books. Digital
libraries do away with these fees.

Tablet vs Textbook

Tablets help students learn more material faster.

E-textbooks on tablets cost on average 50-60% less than print textbooks.
Tablets contain many technological features that cannot be found in print
textbooks.
Tablets give users the ability to highlight and edit text and write notes
without ruining a textbook for the next user.
Tablets have a search function, a backlighting option to read in low light,
and a built-in dictionary.
Interactive diagrams and videos increase student creativity, motivation,
attentiveness, and engagement with classroom materials.
The cost of using a tablet is less than print books
