Mission
Our mission is to promote the status of Zimbabwean Engineers in the UK,to develop,
expand and maintain the reputation, interests, effectiveness and public perception of
the role, duties and achievements of Engineers. To support the activities of ZIE in
Zimbabwe.

Engineering Council Of Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has enacted the Engineering Council Act, 2007 which provides for the establishment of the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ) which shall be responsible
for the registration of engineers and engineering technicians and regulation of their practice in Zimbabwe. The Council would also issue practising certificates for registered
engineers and technicians and has powers to caution, fine, suspend or strike off engineers for improper or disgraceful conduct or for gross incompetence. The Act also
provides for criminal sanctions for unregistered persons who attempt to practice without supervision of a registered person. The Act has also amended the existing
Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (Private) Act [Chapter 27:16].
The ECZ Council has 13 members and 6 alternates appointed by the Minister of Public Works (or any other Minister to whom the President may from time to time assign the
administration of this Act).
To be registered you have to be a member of a constituent body and ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe. Temporary registration for a maximum of 12 months is available for
those who satisfy the qualification criteria but are not ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe. To register you apply through a constituent body and pay an application fee. The
constituent body will then forward your application to the ECZ Council. ZIE is currently the only constituent body of the ECZ. Other engineering bodies are eligible to be
constituent bodies provided they get ministerial approval.
A Practising Certificate is issued after payment of an application fee to a registered person who is a member of a constituent body. Its valid for the financial year it was
issued so long as the holder remains registered. A max of 3 months is allowed in the following year for the renewal of the certificate.
A registered engineer will be entitled to use the designation Registered Engineer (Zimbabwe) or the initials E or Eng and a Registered technician -Registered
Technician (Zimbabwe) or initials (R.Tech (Eng))
Persons employed by the state , municipal councils, local boards, rural district councils are exempt from the need to register or have a practising certificate before they can
do engineering work.
To avoid confusion between the ECZ Council and the former ZIE Council, the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (Private) Act [Chapter 27:16] was amended to repeal the
definition of Council and the insertion of another definition of Council that refers to the EC Act 2007. The original definition has now been substituted by the word Board
wherever it occurred. Sections 8 and 14 of Chpt 27;16 have been repealed. Section 8 dealt with duplicate copies of entries to the register being sent to the Minister. This is
no longer necessary as the Council has final authority on registry entries. Chapter 14 dealt with suspension and removal of a members name from the register. This is now
being dealt with by the new Act.
