The production that we are creating is an opening sequence of
an action genre film. The idea of our opening sequence
involves an unnamed, anonymous agent who has been set the
mission of eliminating a dangerous target who is said to be
hiding at a nearby high school in the small town of Newbury
Park. The agent enters the school building and sees guards
nearby. He uses his weaponry (his gun) to assassinate the
guards who are scattered throughout the building, protecting
the suspected enemy. As he progresses through his journey, he
encounters a close-quarter fist-fight with a guard as their
weapons fall to the floor to the floor during combat. A series
of punches and attacks are exchanged between the two
characters as they violently battle eachother. Eventually, the
agent is successful as he manages to knock-out the guard,
leaving him sprawled on the floor. The guard then carefully
approaches the classroom door in which the target it hiding
and slowly opens the door. As the agent enters the classroom,
he is greeted by the barrel of a gun being pointed straight at
him by an average height black male wearing a suit. Words are
briefly exchanged between the two, and then the page fades to
black as a gunshot is heard The agent is then seen slowly
stumbling out of the classroom with the gun down by his side.
As he attempts to walk away from the scene, he is suddenly and
unexpectedly attacked from behind by a figure that cannot be
see/identified. The screen then turns black as the title
appears.

Target Audience
The target audience that my group and I have decided to aim
our production/movie at is ranged between the ages of 15 to 35
years of age. The reason as to why we have chosen this
particular age group is because people of this specific age
group are the most likely to watch a film from the action
genre with fast paced scenes and violence. Also, the younger
generation are more likely to try new experiences and are more
willing to get an adrenaline rush from watching the film.
Proof of that fact comes from looking at our genre research.
The research shows that the age group we have chosen is more
interested in the action genre.

We are also aiming our production at a unisex audience (due to

the fact that both males and females are fans of films that
are part of this particular genre). The reason as to why we
have aimed our film at a unisex audience, is down to the idea
that men could be taking their girlfriends for a date at the
cinema to experience a fast-paced adrenaline-pumped
experience. Females may also like the idea of the male being
the protagonist (the dominant force) and the plot of violence
as the protagonist comes out victorious. The attitudes of this
particular age group are also more inclined to try out new
experiences and are open to change, and they enjoy the thrill
of an adrenaline rush.

Context
The final product (our entire production including ALL of our
paperwork) will be showcased and presented in our media
studies teachers classroom (Mr Assegai) with the lights
turned off to maximise the effect of the opening sequence,
creating a tense atmosphere which will enhance the audiences
experience whilst watching the film. The darkness of the room
will cause the audience to focus clearly and properly on what
is going on within the production. Also, for extra effect, the
sound will also be increased to a fairly loud volume, so loud
noises (such as gunshots) will shake the audience and maintain
their attention. Also, the suspenseful music used within the
film will create alot more tension in the room. The opening
sequence of our action film will be uploaded and released on
the YouTube.com website for members of the public to watch,
rate (like/dislike) and leave comments.

Media Language
Media language will be used effectively to portray a variety
of different and various thoughts and feelings for the
audience to experience and understand. The costume that is
used by the character of the secret agent will connote towards
the audience a sense of a mysterious character whos identity
is never fully revealed. The sophisticated suit will show a
smart, casual yet dark hidden side to the character, which
will keep the audience interested.

Representation
We are
going to represent the main
character
(the secret agent) as a
secretive
detective who is focused on a
mission
that has been set by his leader.
Agents are normally seen and portrayed as sly and sneaky,
which is exactly how we would like our main character to be
seen/presented towards the audience. The reasons as to why my
group and I have decided to create our character in this way
is because the audience will experience a sense of secrecy
which will maintain their attention towards the production and
keep them solely focused on the main character. We also want
the audience to feel the adrenaline rush when the character
approaches danger and takes part in a battle by using
stereotypical techniques.

Genre
The setting that we are using is not as typical as normal
horror films. Stereotypically, action films are usually based
in public, open places where civilians/pedestrians can witness
the action that goes throughout the duration of the film.
However, in OUR production/film we will start in the school
building in the late afternoon (dark sky) which will set the
scene to create suspense. If need-be, some scenes can also be
darkened on the editing programme used to make the film (Sony
Vegas Pro 10)
