A drop of Water- Amounts to life

A Report on Project Boond

That divine elixir of eternal life-Water
Save every drop of it, say the wise.
Every country in the world today is very aware of the importance of the natural resource water
and its multi dimentional & inevitable utility in our daily activities, that keeps the Earth going
round & keeping it alive & breathing. In an overwhelming initiative to respond to the cause of
Water Conservation, The DAVCMC organized an awareness movement, under the clarion call
from President CMC Shri Poonam Suri ji & Dr. Nisha Peshin, President Arya Pradeshik
Pratinidhi Upsabha- Delhi and Rashtriya Arya Yuva Samaj- Delhi. This involved all the D.A.V.
schools of Delhi, as apart of the Water Cooperation year that is being celebrated in 2013, all
over the world. Undertaking the issue of Water as a project, in the form of Project Boond,
the D.A.V Public School, East of Loni Road, participated in various activities that were
conducted within the school premises as well as outside it.

In our school the activities organized for students of various classes included the following:The tiny tots of the school from pre-school to class II recited short poems on the theme of
Water in a poetry recitation activity, which was held on 17th January, 2013.
On 17th January, 2013, there was a Placard Making Activity for students of class VIII. In this
activity ,all the students of class VIII took active part in writing slogans based on the theme of
Water along with colourful visuals in support. Some of these slogans were- Do not waste it,
just taste it, Now you save water, later water will save you, Save water for a bright future!
and many more, that underlined the concern of our students for their environmental welfare.
About 100 students took part in this activity, under the guidance of two co-ordinating teachers.

A wide range of activities were organized on 19th January, 2013 for several classes. For V class,
there was a Poetry Recitation Competition. The students recited self written poems, both in
Hindi & English Languages, expressing their views on Water in a creative display. Four best
performers were selected, from among more than 100 students who participated.

On the same day, i.e 19th January, 2013, a Slogan Writing Activity was held for students of
VI class, on the topic Save Water: Save Life. From 9:30am to 11:30am, all the students of
this class made placards with colourful slogans on them. The slogans expressed the great value
they associate to water in their daily routine life. Some of these were: Do not waste a drop
Conserve H2o
(Danger level reaches) stage 2- much, much, much!
Every drop is precious; do not waste it.
Say No to bath in a shower
Save life; save water power.
These words, coming from the young students, really made people think twice before unnecessary use of water and unmindful utilization of the resources.

There were 2 activities for students of VII class on 19th January, 2013. One was Making Book
Marks & the other was Write tips on how to save water. The bookmarks made by the students
carried on them facts related to water. These book marks were in the shapes of drops of
various sizes or umbrellas, on which the students also wrote down tips to save water. Some
students wrote about not to keep the tap running while brushing your teeth or to turn off a tap as
soon as a bucket is full etc or even rain-water-harvesting was suggested. Later, these drops or
book-marks were placed on display on the display boards for each house of the school, which
took up the Boond Project as its subject matter for the week.

On this day, IX class presented a Nukkad Natak on Jal Sanrakshan at two local sites in MIG &
LIG flats. The students evoked immediate response from the local viewers, who not only
appreciated the concern of the school going students but also came up with a suggestion to
perform more such street plays for wider & immediate influence over the general public. The
suggestion was to take up the issue of over population also in relation to the problems of
water as the more number of the people, the increase in demand for water multiplies & leads to
its shortage. The students distributed pamphlets with some of the important dos & donts of
water conservation to the passersby & the viewers of their street play. Students were thus
successful in sensitizing & awaring the masses in their concern with saving water, through their
simple messages, but no less important ones like keeping the taps turned off while not in use
and to minimize use of water in works like cleaning, washing & bathing activities etc- Do not
use 10 buckets where you can manage in only one bucket of water.'

The students of XI class presented Power Point Presentation on Problems of Water

Pollution & its Solution. They prepared these presentations in groups of two students in each
group. Technology is greatly instrumental in supporting the cause of environment & natural
resources, is the message of their project & of course that pollution free industry may help to
maintain the purity & freshness of water. Recycling of garbage & drain water was also one of
their important suggestions for solution to the problems of water pollution.

On 21st January, 2013 the students of class III took part in rhythmic short poem recitation &
singing activity titled Songs & Jingles on Save Water. Poems were recited & songs were
sung by the small children, in both Hindi & English Languages. The best performers were
selected from each class. From III A & III B, 3 students from each section were chosen for their
excellence in jingles. In songs, 2 from III A & 3 students from III B were selected as best
performers.

In a Drawing & Painting competition for students of class IV, held also on 21st January, 2013,
the topic was on another aspect of water, that is its Resources. Students showed their wide
relationship with this resource in its various forms, as they painted taps, rain, underground
water & even rivers in their paintings.

The participation of the students & concerned teachers was complete & was full of the spirit of
enthusiasm & complete involvement in the theme of water. Related to the theme, the teachers &
students of our school, submitted a painting in acrylic colours on canvas in an inter-school
painting competition held among all the D.A.Vs. The painting depicted the Earth as a bird, to
emphasize the fact, that the Earth is a living organism, the life & flight of which is sustained
only by water.

As many as 100 students from our school, on 19th January, 2013 took active part in the HumanChain- Formation Programme at Rajghat, Gate No.1 & 2, from 10:30 am to 12:30 noon,
holding placards, slogans & banners on water conservation. The message of the Human Chain
was to place emphasis on the need to unite & join hands in the preservation, purification &
conservation of our life- giving resource- Water. During this programme our students interacted
with some foreign tourists, from countries like Afghanistan, Russia & America & informed
them about the various utilities of water, the necessity of saving water for the next generation &
our contributions in saving water. Some of the slogans written on the placards were as follows:

Without a drop there will be no crop.

Every drop counts, so join hands & save water.
Conserve the water, preserve the nation.
Jal hai, to kal hai.
Is boond- boond ko bachakar, ek sagar swayam banao.
Raksha kar jal ki, warna guarantee nahi kal ki.
Jal se milta sukh apaar, mat bahao isko bekar.
Shower- bath ko kahen bye-bye, baalti mug se hi nahayen.
karte ho bacchon se pyar, to swacch jal ka do uphaar.
Todays rain- water is tomorrows life saver.
Whenever you conserve water, you conserve life.
Save water, secure future.
Rain- water tank, wont break the bank.

The students of our school also made 40 mascots that represented the project boond.
The banners which they held bearing the names of the Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi UpsabhaDelhi and Rashtriya Arya Yuva Samaj- Delhi, had two slogans on each of them- Samjho
sakal jagat ki peer, kabhi na ganda karna neer, & karte ho bacchon se pyaar, to swacch jal ka
do uphaar.
The starting point of the Human-Chain was from Shantivan (Samadhi of Shri Jawaharlal Nehru)
to the ending point at kisan Ghat (Samadhi of Ch. Charan Singh). All the students wore aprons
(with the logo printed on both sides). The students stood, holding their hands on both sides of
the road on pavements, at the specified venues. For every 25 students, there was one large
banner (of the size of 6 feet by 3 feet) & one placard for two students. All teachers & helpers
wore Volunteer Cards, showing, discipline & complete co-ordination.
The Project Boond taken up as a mass- awareness programme by the D.A.V. CMC proved to
be highly fruitful, effective & a grand success as all the D.A.V. students, including students of
our school, teachers & high officials joined hands to make it carry the message across, far &
wide in the city, that the challenge before us is to focus our attention on actions taken for longterm sustainable management of water resources. The project boond thus stream lined the
collective concern for water & its utility across the world & woke us all up from our apathy &
negligence in this crucial area of life, so that we may declare jointly:
Wake up, the morning is not far away
Life begins & ends with waterThere is heaven in each drop, let us realize,
Let us conserve it, not waste away.
Because water today for all of us means a better, safer & healthier tomorrow.
Let us celebrate Life on earth
Let us give a meaning to lifeLet us gift Water to the next generations & secure life on Earth.
