The following data are cross-sections of
segment of road grading network. The road
bed is 6 m wide in cut and 4.8 m in fill. The side

From Station 0 + 200 with center height of 1.4
m in fill, the ground line makes a uniform slope
of +5% to station 0 + 260 whose center height
is 2.8 m in cut. Assuming both sections to be
trapezoidal with a roadway of 10 m and side
slope of 2:1
1. Compute the grade of the finished
roadway.
2. How far from Station 0 + 200 will the filling
extend?
3. What is the area of the section at Station 0

Exercise
1r Problme
From station 10 + 100 with center height of 3.4
m in cut has a ground line which makes
uniform slope of -4% to station 10 + 180 whose
center height in fill is 1.2 m. Assume both
sections to be trapezoidal having a width of
roadway of 8.0 m and side slope of 1:1 for
both cut and fill. If the shrinkage factor is 1.3,
compute the difference in volume of cut and
fill in cu. m. (Ans: 996.18 sq m.)
