Communities In Schools of the Nations Capital is looking for passionate social work professional to provide effective
support for the students of the International Academy and their parents at Cardozo Education Campus. CIS is a
network of dedicated professionals partnering with community stakeholders, public and private school personnel,
families and students to promote student success. CIS surrounds students with a community of support services,
empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Through a school-based resource coordinator for students,
CIS provides targeted, individually-crafted interventions to improve student academic and social success. The CIS
program model focuses on drop-out prevention through promotion of the 5 Basics:
a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult,
a safe place to learn and grow,
a healthy start and healthy future,
a marketable skill upon graduation, and
a chance to give back to peers and community.

JOB SUMMARY
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities of the position are as follows:
Conduct a needs assessment of the IA student body, researching the needs and interest of students and their
parents
Develop, implement and/or coordinate Level I activities, focusing on prevention, enrichment and support for
school culture and climate with the CIS and DN team at Cardozo.
Develop partnerships with neighborhood organizations, local faith-based entities, businesses and
corporations to support the site plan and Level 1 and Level 2 services.
Support and coordinate robust programming for students during out of school time.
Model and utilize best practices for family engagement to increase parent involvement and connectivity, and
to foster a broad sense of school community.
Serve on school-wide teams (Attendance/SOC/Kid Talk/SST/MDT) to support the plans for specific students,
including plan development, monitoring, review and evaluation.
Coordinate and manage student referrals from staff throughout the building, and target additional students,
as appropriate and/or necessary.
Develop a caseload of students who will be connected with Level 2 services as needed. Provide case
management and coordinate delivery of Level 2 services, engaging in the following best practices:
o Assessment
o Case plan development (SMART goals)
o Individual consultations
o Classroom push-ins
o Home contacts
o Review of current services

o Communication with key parties (stakeholders)
o Meeting facilitation
o Progress monitoring
o Documentation
Communicate with parents through a variety of strategies, including Connect Education Messages, flyers,
phone calls and texts.
Support a Cardozo Clothing Closet and other resources for students and parents
Organize and manage the Parent Resource Center to include informative literature pertaining to parenting,
education and career exploration.
Collect attendance data and survey the effectiveness of parent activities
Support the Cardozo Parent Teacher Association
Create a parent newsletter

Data Collection/Evaluation - Administration

Ensure that all case management and other student support activities are documented.
Ensure that student case files and digital records (in TRAX, the CIS Data Management System) are updated
weekly.
Gather, enter and analyze student and family data for ongoing individual and programmatic evaluations.
Provide requested student data at specified times to internal and external stakeholders, including funders
and District and other monitoring agencies.
Follow local office procedures for ordering supplies and reporting expenses.
Monitor the implementation of the schools annual site plan, particularly as it relates to students, and
provide monthly reports to Principal and Program Director.

Relationship-Building

Provide regular feedback to CIS and DN team, school staff, DCPS central administration and other resource
agencies involved in collaborative services. Create and distribute program updates, newsletters or other
appropriate communication vehicles about student and program needs/accomplishments to volunteers and
community partners.
Work with members of the city-wide CIS team to share resources, best practices, and expertise

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
Bachelors degree in education, social work, or related field.
Minimum of three years experience with case management
Bilingual fluency in Spanish
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers and the public
Knowledge of child-serving systems (child welfare, mental health, criminal justice, parks and recreation)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
Experience with data management systems and data tracking
