PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES

STORYBOARD
Scene
Opening Scene This will be
a short montage of sporting
shots. This will consist of
short clips of cycling,
football and other sports to
quickly enforce the topic.

Different Shots
A variation, there is a
shot of cyclists zooming
past which is a wide,
tracking shot. There is
also a usage of archived
footage which consists
of close ups of sports
stars, high wide shots of
athletes in a sprint race,
a tennis match and a
short snippet of a
football match.

Sound
The opening of the
documentary is an
Oprah Winfrey interview
with Lance Armstrong,
and the music which is
a song by the killers,
fades in as the
interview ends. The
song is accompanied by
a voice over, and the
song is used in order to
emphasise a high
tempo to open the
documentary, in order
to match the cinematic
content.
The killers song will
fade out and a more
relevant tone in terms
of the atmosphere will
be used. There will also
be a voice over in order
to explain why the
cinematic content is
relevant.

Introduction to filmmaker
This is done in order to add
a personal effect to the
proceedings, with the
filmmaker being introduced
by announcing what the
initial intentions were to the
documentary.

This will be a usage of

mainly close ups and
medium shots. Short
shots such as zooming
into a bike wheel, or a
low angle close up of a
bike being cycled past
can be used as it is a
sequence where I am
looking to show how
much of an impact sport
has had on my life
personally.

Interviews #2, #3 & #4

These are done with the
youth athletes in order to
gain their insight into sport.
There is interchanging
between the views of each.

Medium shots will be

used throughout in
order to make the
interviews consistent.
Using a different shot
for each interview would
make the production
disorientated and
unprofessional; some
interviews have already
been completed for this
point.

A voice over may be

used in order to give an
idea as to what the
young athletes are
about to talk about.
Apart from this, the
speeches from the
people being
interviewed will be the
only real sound.

Ending narration.

In order to give an
effective ending to the
production, an end of
part one title will be
used in order to make
the ending clear.

Using a storyboard is a key element to the planning of the documentary, due to

this is how I plan to structure my documentary and having a clear idea of this will
make the editing procedure much easier.

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES

STORYBOARD
This is a brief idea as to how I will approach the structuring of the narrative when
it comes to editing. It is subject to amendments and it is likely that when the final
documentary is produced, there may be small aspects which are dissimilar to
this storyboard.
