SEMESTER OF SEPTEMBER 2014

1. BACKGROUND OF INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION IN MALAYSIA

Malaysia's education system is supervised by the Ministry of Education. Education may
be obtained from the school of the government, private schools, or on their own. Centralized
education system especially for primary and secondary schools. Only primary education is
compulsory in law. After the SPM, students can make a choice whether to study in Form 6,
matriculation, diploma courses in various educational institutions, whether government or private
to the highest level as a degree, masters or PHD.
2. IMPORTANCE OF INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION IN MALAYSIA
Education is a key asset in the implementation of national development in Malaysia. Our
country is very concerned about the education and science perfect control. This is because
education is one of the main pillars in the social development of the country. The importance of
education to the development of a country can be seen with a large national budget each year for
the purpose of developing an education system that is required by the community. This action is
considered as a great investment to ensure continuous improvement and to develop a first class
human capital in the future.
Multimedia technology recent years become one of the interesting research in the field of
education. Multimedia technology to be interesting because this new technology was introduced
in the 1990s even before the CAL (Computer Aided Learning) and hypertext media is still
limited in the separate yet combined as multimedia meaning a combination of various media;
text, sound, images, animation and video in one software (Jacobs, 1992).

3. USE OF MULTIMEDIA IN EDUCATION INDUSTRY

Multimedia can be used in education as a tool for teaching and learning such as zoom A.
Uses multimedia can enhance quality and facilitate the teaching and learning process as easy for
students to understand the concept, given longer, and save time. teaching and learning process
more fun and can attract students to learn such as learning and entertainment with animation
program.
3.1 As Teaching Tool in Teaching & Learning
The rapid expansion of the current in the field of computer technology in terms of speed
of data processing, data storage space, the device name as CD-ROM drives, scanners, and digital
cameras has enabled teachers and students to produce their own multimedia CD-ROM by using
the right tools.
In addition, it can also serve different learning styles among students with the elements of
the multimedia. In addition, multimedia can facilitate learning based on constructivism. A
student can achieve the required information and learn to choose to learn either through text,
images, audio or video in the style of self-learning. For students who are less proficient in
learning, the group can repeat things that have been passed so that they can understand what is
learned.
Multimedia is a combination of text, graphics, audio, video and animation. With the
combination of these elements in a lesson, the teacher can create a learning environment that is
full of audio visual performances that not only attract the students and to stimulate the senses.
Interactive multimedia encourages cooperative learning and interaction between students.
They have the opportunity to form small groups to discuss and understand a topic, solve

problems and make decisions. According to constructivism, students are being responsible for
learning.
In the process of preparing a report or presentation, the variety of learning styles and
learning skills to be using and then use the resulting current. By identifying the various learning
styles of students belonging, teachers can design appropriate strategies to meet the needs of the
students according to the learning style of their preference. However, the objective of education
is not only concerned with the students' learning styles and learning styles of the students felt
less tendency also need to be developed.
In this regard, the process of teaching and learning should be able to treat a variety of
learning styles so that learning is more effective results. Studies in this field have shown that this
is one of the tools that can be used to achieve this objective because the use of multimedia can
encourage discussion, interaction and reflection among students and teachers. It can treat a
variety of learning styles. Therefore, the use of multimedia should be fully exploited in the
education system for the benefit of students.
3.1.1 Zoom-A - Interactive Learning through the Internet
Web-based applications such as Zoom-A can also be used as a teaching tool. Zoom-A is
an interactive learning program via the Internet. Education programs carefully plan, systematic,
efficient, and effective ranges of advanced interactive learning program in Malaysia. This
program was born out of the combination of smart partnership Headmasters Council of Malaysia
(GMGBM) and One Touch Education Sdn. Bhd. for the government's response to the expansion
of the smart school. Portal Zoom-A not only contains training materials and exams for students,
but also provide a wide range of applications that can help improve student achievement.
Zoom-A is an exclusive e-Learning program and there are many advantages to this
program. Zoom Program-A is building an exclusive e-Learning and effective. Extra Zoom-A is a
question of building a clone of the test in previous years, the practical question of consolidation
and enrichment of the latest learning resources. Zoom-A provides a topical test, exam questions
clones by year, and consolidation tests can be selected according to the needs of the students
themselves.
Advantage in Zoom-A is that students can choose questions based on the syllabus as a
year or level, the subject, the examination, headlines, subheads, and level of difficulty. Building

questions in Zoom-A carefully planned by the Department of Trade Zoom-A consisting of school
teachers who are experienced and expert in every subject. Facilities should be available to join
the Zoom-A simple program where students just need to have a computer and internet
connection. Zoom-A is very important as practical reinforcement learning to improve their
performance and excellence exam.
This program can be practiced at anytime and anywhere. Zoom-A meet and cover all the
syllabus set by the Ministry of Education. Zoom-A is compatible with the learning environment
of today because of this program is the e-Learning neatly organized, systematic, and timely.
Zoom-A based utilized by all students from Year 1 to Year 6 and is also UPSR. Zoom-A can be
found in cyber cafes, schools, and homes as long as there is Internet access. Zoom-A is also a
question of building a clone and are able to improve the performance of students scored A in the
exam with no practical limits. Parents can also monitor for any practical children in a way that is
easy. Parents can find out the achievement scores of children, practical topics, dates and times,
including periods of practice, and make revisions.
3.2 Improving Quality and Simplify Processes Teaching & Learning
3.2.1 Easy to understand concepts
Using of multimedia in teaching and learning in the classroom to help students
understand a concept. With the combination of text, graphics, audio, video and animation,
students more easily understand the concepts to be conveyed by the teacher. For example, in
teaching the Human Digestive System, teachers can use text and graphics to show what happens
to the food eaten by a person from the food into the mouth until it was absorbed into the
intestinal wall and the waste removed from the body as feces.
In mathematics, the elevation angle and the angle of topics in Mathematics Subject to
Form Four, for example, the use of images and video can be used to demonstrate the concept of
trigonometric ratios and the angle of elevation and angle of depression to solve everyday
problems, such as estimating the flagpole. In this way, the concept is fully reinforced.
3.2.2 Given longer

SEMESTER OF SEPTEMBER 2014

In education, the assessment in the form of tests and examinations are very important to
test the effectiveness of teaching and learning in the classroom. Excellent examination results are
very important for students to qualify them to continue their studies to a higher level.
Each student has different learning abilities (Gardner, 1993). Student achievement in the
simple subjects should be assisted to enable them to obtain excellent results in public
examinations such as UPSR and SPM. In this era of information technology, multimedia can
help the students towards it. The concept used is the 'bring home the student teachers to help
students preparing for exams.
According to Gagne (1985) to understand a concept of learning that lesson the student
must repeat a few times. Repetitive learning method makes things easy to understand and
remember longer. Focusing Screen DVD production, with a record of a teacher explains the
concept and the recording were made focusing on the computer screen or LCD.
Students seemed to view the explanation of the teacher to a concept in mind and if fewer
misunderstandings the playback as many times as required to understand. It can overcome the
deficits of learning in the classroom. VCD can be used also as close to the test to recall the
concepts that were taught.
3.2.3 Saving time
Time is gold. It is very valuable, especially to a teacher and a student. Through
multimedia materials provided on or through the teaching materials supplied to schools, teachers
can save time drawing complex diagrams on the blackboard. For example, in the subjects of
Biology, teachers do not have the heart to draw diagrams on the board. With simple heart
diagram can be obtained from the internet and teachers just need to download the diagram and
the information can then be shown to students in class using an LCD projector. This material can
be used to teach other classes or can be used by teachers and other easily and quickly.
By using auditory and visual in the presentation of information, students will be able to
process information more quickly and with that learning can be promoted. (Michelich.V., 2001)
3.3 Making Process of Teaching & Learning More Fun and Can Attracting Students
3.3.1 Attracting Students

SEMESTER OF SEPTEMBER 2014

The use of multimedia in teaching and learning mathematics can attract students to the
subject. Multimedia will facilitate understandings ideas of abstract mathematics. It helps in the
investigation of problems of mathematics and the response object changes shape or size
spontaneously. For example, the software Geometer's Sketchpad (GSP), the change of a point on
an object will change the shape of the object, change the value of the data will change the data on
spontaneously in MS-Excel.
Teachers need to be involved in learning and have shown that they are interested in
teaching their students. This can be done by using technology such as computers and the Internet.
Teachers can get information from websites that are mathematical and combining it with the
concept given in textbooks and reference books in building their own teaching materials using
GSP and powerpoint slide. With teaching materials in the form of multimedia can reduce the
tedium of students towards mathematics.
3.3.2 Have fun while learning to program animated graphics
Generally, the graphics and animation are believed to have an advantage over static
graphics in learning. Animated graphics are an effective way to attract attention. In addition, the
graphics and animation can provide concrete information graphics object movement and changes
over time, so that animated graphics can reduce the level of abstract ideas. Potential animated
graphics make learning more interesting and fun. Graphic animation also provides additional
information compared to static graphics with two important attributes of motion and trajectory.
Use of graphics and animation to convey the information described as a learning by seeing"
because it combines the delivery of graphics and text to strengthen the memory.
One example is the animation program DORA THE EXPLORER. Dora is a story of a girl
with her friend monkey named Boots. They were always on the move. Travel across the river and
up the hill to achieve a desired in every episode. Dora is always assisted by the "backpack"- a
bag that has all the equipment to talk and "map"- a sketch map of each adventure Dora towards
the goal. When Dora get to any destination, she and Boots will be singing and dancing by saying
"We did it, we did it". They will interact with the audience, especially the children who were
excited when they finally reached the goal.
DORA THE EXPLORER story looks like a video game for children of pre-school child.
Dora and Boots always interact directly through the TV screen to bring the audience together to

help them. This method is considered wise when characters encourage the audience by saying,
"Say it again, say it again", then the audience will do. Indirectly, Dora will be in demand as a
character that is always possible. It gives the impression that the program was very interesting
and "light", especially to children.

4. HOW TO VIDEO-ON-DEMAMND (VOD) AND VIDEO CONFERENCING CAN BE

UTILISED IN EDUCATION INDUSTRY
Video-On-Demand is a system that allows users to select and watch video when they
want, rather than to watch the broadcast at a certain time. IPTV technology is often used to bring
video on demand to televisions and personal computers. Video-On-Demand is a service that
allows us to download movies or TV programs directly to your PVR decoder allows us to watch
it for the time specified by us. Other services that can be enjoyed in the Video-On-Demand are
Catch-Up TV, where we can download a selection of programs that have been recently
published. To access the Video-On-Demand, we need a PVR decoder, network broadband
internet connection at home (min 5Mbps) and an Astro on the Go and Catch-Up TV.
An Implementation of Video-On-Demand in Education Industry
Video-On-Demand (VOD) can be used in education as a platform for independent
learning. Students can learn based on their own time, not depending on the class and not time
limited. EduWebTV and VOD Youtube is an example that can be harnessed to learn. Both of
them can be accessed at any time.
4.1 EduwebTV Program
EduwebTV the Education TV channel broadcast over the Internet. EduwebTV managed
by the Division of Educational Technology. EduwebTV is free to be accessed by anyone with an

studying an education. If it can be used in a systematic and effective teacher, it was able to solve
any problems in the teaching and learning process. Youtube invites users to enjoy the experience
of watching videos as a reviewer and the creator of one of the activities is a critical skill in
today's electronic culture. While most of the videos in youtube do not have educational goals,
many encouraging experimentation with new media. Many educators believe that the effort to
build the content is a useful learning exercise, which helps to improve the understanding of the
materials and equipment used to construct the content of the video.
YouTube is a video sharing website that has the functionality to download, watch and
share videos worldwide for the use of visitors to the website. Youtube web site also allows users
to broadcast educational videos, watch videos related to the subject as well as to comment on the
discussion on the appropriate video to share ideas, opinions and suggestions on the videos that
have been downloaded from the web site youtube.
Due to youtube facilitate this, it has the potential to expose students to new insights and
skills, and connect them to various online communities. As an application of social software,
