Subject : State Level Competition on UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEM: (UAS-2015)
Dear Sir/Madam,
Rajasthan Technical University, Kota is going to organize a State Level Competition on
UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEM (UAS-2015) for B.Tech. students of RTU. This
competition intends to get unmanned aircraft systems designed, developed, fabricated and
demonstrated by the students.
The objective of the competition is to promote and develop students intelligence and theoretical
knowledge obtained during their undergraduate curriculum studies and to explore worldwide
experience in unmanned aircraft system technologies at the university and college levels.

The thrust of this competition is to combine real life problems, which may include any one of the
fields like mapping agriculture fields, surveying, spraying pesticides, etc. The mission is to
nurture students own ideas and to get UAS fabricated by them.
The competition will take place in two phases: Phase I - Design report from each team to be
submitted online in soft and hard copy on RTU web link and Phase II - Operational
demonstration, 9th April, 2015 (RTU campus) Details can be seen on www.rtu.ac.in link.
1.Eligibility of Participating Teams
Each team will consist of maximum five members (four students and one faculty
member). All members should belong to the same affiliated college. Faculty member of the team
should be a regular employee of participating college at the time of presentation. Only one entry
from one institute will be accepted.

Student team members should be enrolled as regular students in their College at the time of the
Phase I and Phase II contest. Postgraduate students are not eligible to participate in the
competition.
1.1 Phase I

4. The Scoring (Evaluation)

Every team will be rewarded according to the results contained in the surveillance report
that will be submitted after the demonstration of each flight.
Format of surveillance report will be let known soon.
Each Flight will be given 15 minutes.
Winner of the competition will be declared based on completion of the flight as per
surveillance report.
If there is a tie after that also, the Judges and Referees will decide the winner.

5. Violations and Deduction of Points

Once a flight demonstration begins, the following actions will be regarded as violations and
points will be deducted for each violation.
A violation occurs if any Unmanned Aircraft of a team touches an opponents Unmanned
Aircraft.

A violation occurs when a parent Unmanned Aircraft or a team member touches the floor
area of flight zone except in the case of retry.
A violation occurs when an Unmanned Aircraft during the flight intentionally touches the
floor area of flight zone.

6. Disqualification
The following behaviors shall be considered as disqualifications of the team by the Judges
and Referees for a particular UAS.
Causing or attempting to damage the game field, the equipment on the field or the
opponents Unmanned Aircraft.
A Unmanned Aircraft or any team intentionally blocks, touches or attacks the opponents
Unmanned Aircrafts directly or indirectly. However if the Unmanned Aircraft of any
team moves or falls into restricted areas by an accident, it should be removed
immediately as per Referees instructions. The referee is empowered to decide whether it
is an accident or not. Retry may be allowed after that.
Five (5) False Starts in a flight (Unmanned Aircraft being started before the Referee
signals a start) are permissible.
Performing any act against the spirit of fair play and friendship between participating
teams.
Persistently using the cable to guide or pull the Unmanned Aircraft System.
The team that does not follow the instructions or warnings of the Referee.
Use of communication (such as IR, RF, LASER etc.) between the Unmanned Aircrafts.
7. About Safety
Safety is the most important issue in Unmanned Aircraft System Competition; therefore
every participant has to develop Unmanned Aircraft safely. Every participant in the project who
builds Unmanned Aircraft must observe the Safety and Health Guidelines which are defined
from time to time. On the contest day, sufficient safety should be ensured to the staff and the
students watching at the venue. Besides an ethical aspect, keeping workplace safety, an accident
could lead to discontinuation/debar the participating institute from the UAS competition.

Unmanned Aircraft should complete safe flight presentation under the supervision and
instruction of the RTU Judging team members.

Safety measures
During Unmanned Aircraft flight presentation operation mistake or by a reckless run of a
control system or fracture of parts, the Unmanned Aircraft could stop, accelerate and turn
suddenly causing it to collide with nearby things or come into contact and be caught in the
movable parts (such as rotor blades) and crush into the ambient environment. Due to design
mistake or reconstruction of the Unmanned Aircraft, over-current to a circuit, short circuit of the
battery by a shock or a fire could cause a major accident. All similar considerations have to be
taken care off. Please take effective safety measures according to the characteristics of an
individual Unmanned Aircraft.

8. Others
For any other behavior not specified in the rules, referees are given full authority to take a
decision and their decision will be final and binding in the event of a dispute.
Any amendments to these rules will be announced by the Contest committee and be
updated on www.rtu.ac.in website link.
All teams are requested to decorate the Unmanned Aircrafts to reflect the culture,
aesthetics and styles of their respective colleges.
All Unmanned Aircrafts must be designed and made by students teams. Readymade
commercial Unmanned Aircrafts will be disqualified from being used. Teams are not
allowed to have sponsors logos anywhere on the Unmanned Aircrafts or on the uniform.
When requested by the contest committee, each participating college will be asked to
provide information on their Unmanned Aircrafts, including the video, which explains
the design, structure details and functions, etc.
The contest committee will verify whether each participating Unmanned Aircraft
complies with the rules through viewing the videos, prior to the competition of the
Unmanned Aircrafts

(Phase I).

When using optical sensors teams must consider the fact that there will be very
brightlights on the game field for video recording and broadcasting purposes.
The allowable margin of specification to the objects in weight and size is 10%.
Teams should consider the operational height of the Unmanned Aircraft during the flight
demonstration and must design the Unmanned Aircraft to avoid probable damage in the
case of accidental fall from height by providing suitable cushioning means.

9. AWARDS
Prizes shall include awards for the Winner team Rs. 50,000/-, Runner up team Rs.30, 000/-,
Best idea Rs.10, 000/- .

General: All the colleges are expected to sponsor the event at their own level in the academic
interest of the students. For further enquiry, you may contact any of the following team
