Palletized Drum Fillers

Stand Alone Units

Twin-Lance Filler
(Photo 1024) This twin
lance, sub-surface drum
and tote filler has a
stainless lance for filling
non-corrosive chemicals
and a Kynar lance for
filling acids. The operator
windshield is one of
many options. A
hydraulic cylinder raises
and lowers the horizontal
boom to fill containers as
low as 20 to as high as
80 tall.
Stand Alone Drum Filler
(Photo 1012) Here is a basic, single
lance, palletized, four drum filler,
model DF-5540. The base legs are
the only non-standard item. They
straddle the floor mounted platform
scale.

All Stainless Steel Filler (Photo 1051)

This is a low profile, all-stainless steel drum
filler for filling food flavorings into four, 55
gallon drums mounted on a pallet. A ramp,
(not shown) is used with a pallet jack to
pick-up and drop off the loads at the floor
mounted platform scale.

Low Profile Filler

(Photo 1052) This
custom-made filler has
Kynar lance and valves
for corrosive chemicals.
The inner mast rises and
lowers within the twin
outer masts by hydraulic
cylinder that carries the
boom and lance carriage
up to fill 330 gallon IBC's
and down to fill 15 gallon
drums. The filler scale
base is floor mounted.

Description of Operation (for all palletized drum and IBC fillers)

The operator pushes a button on the handle to release the pivoting boom to guide the lance over any container
He then presses the start button on his handle. The zero tare and lance insertion are both automatic
If sub-surface filling, the lance travels to the bottom of the drum and starts a slow fill cycle
When the liquid reaches the lance tip, both ball valves open wide and the system shifts to fast fill mode
A magnetic encoder signals the location of the lance at all times, for product level tracking.
Near the top, the cycle shifts again to dribble speed, to top off the drum and prevent foaming
When a container is filled to the desired weight, the cycle stops and the lance retracts automatically.

Palletized Drum Fillers

Complete Systems

Standard, In-Line Drum & IBC System (Photo 1067) This

standard, model DF-5540 filler, as seen, is the most popular
drum and tote filling system in the world. The sub-surface
filler uses a rod-less air cylinder to raise and lower the lance
for varying height containers. The conveyors are powered
and indexing. The machine requires only 2 CFM of air at 80
PSI to operate and typically fills a 55 gallon drum in less than
a minute. The conveyors, platform, controls, and bunging
station are also standard.

Extra Tall, Kynar Lance (Photo1023)

This palletized drum filler has an extralong Kynar lance for filling to the
bottom of 550 gallon totes. The infeed
and discharge conveyors were added
at a later date. A hydraulics package
raises and lowers the filling boom for
20 to 80 tall containers.

In & Out Filling Station (Photo1015) The

powered conveyor on the filler scale and the staging
conveyor before the filler are both reversing. A load
dropped off at the end will convey into the filling
station then reverse back out, making the drop off
point the pickup point as well. This is a model DF5541 palletized drum filler with a stainless steel, topfill assembly.

Pallet Dispenser with Filler (Photo1039) The dispenser sends a

pallet onto a two-strand chain conveyor to be manually loaded with
drums. The fork truck floor stops prevent damage when a tote is
loaded. Since the pallets run the wrong-way, two-strand chain
conveyors are used on the infeed and three-strand chains on the
discharge. Diamond tread plates are mounted between the chains for
walking across the conveyor. The filling lance is Kynar and the
platform is fiberglass for acid wash down. This system will fill a variety
of chemicals into 20 to 80 tall containers.

Drum & IBC Fillers

Dual Lance System (Photo 1065) This custom-made drum

and tote filling system has twin Kynar lances to fill corrosive
chemicals into drums and totes. The system uses a hydraulic
cylinder to raise and lower the boom to accommodate from 55
gallon to 550 gallon containers. A pivoting de-bung station is
mounted before the fill station and a pivoting bung/capping
station is mounted after the filler.

U-Line Filling System (Photo 1041) This special U-Line

chemical filling system fills from 15 to 550 gallon containers.
The long Kynar lance allows for faster filling from the bottom
of the 72 tall IBC. Infeed and discharge chain conveyors are
used for wrong-way pallets. Diamond tread plates between
chains are for walkover. Bung and capping tools hang over
the bung station after the transfer.

550 Gallon IBC Filler (Photo 1032) The

standard, DF-5540 palletized drum filler is
built for loads up to 5,000lbs, but can be
modified to include a 10,000lb scale base, a
longer lance, heavy duty conveyor bearings
and closer roller centers to handle tall,
unstable totes up to 8,000lbs gross weight.
The movable step-up is used for the
operator to work on 80 tall containers.

U-Line Drum & IBC Filler (Photo 1018) This

is another, U-Line filling system. The infeed is
gravity conveyor with air-operated pallet
escapements and walkover plates. The up/down
transfer has a chain conveyor under a roller
conveyor for incoming pallets. Powered
conveyors carry the loads to and from the filling
station. The long discharge conveyor is gravity
with escapements to allow pallet accumulation
and separation during pick-up.

IBC/Tote Fillers

Filling Tall Totes (Photo 1031) This drum and

IBC filling system uses an extra-long Kynar lance to
allow the lance to descend within a half inch of the
bottom of every container, to speed up the filling
cycle and control liquid foaming. The horizontal boom
and lance carriage raises and lowers within the two
stanchions to accommodate 55 to 550 gallon
containers

Bag-in-a Box Filler (Photo 1071) This subsurface filler was modified to fill a 220 gallon plastic
bag with a 2" throat within a corrugated container.
The end of the lance sprays the liquid out like a
shower rather than a faucet, to allow the bag to
inflate (unwrinkled) properly.

All-Stainless IBC Filler (Photo 1047) This tote

filler was required to have all stainless steel
components above the fill line to avoid possible
contamination of the liquid. This food grade
application has quick-disconnect couplings to fill
drums as well as totes. The conveyors and operator
platform are epoxy coated.

Automatic IBC Filler (Photo 1036) The

tote conveys to an air operated blade stop.
A photo eye signals the conveyor on the
scale to stop and the tote filler to tare the
load and start, automatically. When
completed, the lance retracts and signals
the conveyor to discharge the load.

Single Drum Fillers

Four Head Filler - (Photo 1114) This special

application is a four-head, semi-automatic, top-fill system
with two fillers side by side. One drum filler has two Kynar
lances and valves for corrosive chemicals. The other filler
uses Kynar as well as a 316 stainless lance for filling 55
gallon drums with pharmaceuticals.

Sanitary Filler (Photo 1128) -This

stand alone, top-fill machine has TriClover tubing and couplings to meet
sanitary conditions, including quick
disconnects, two inlet ball valves and
food grade seals. The frame is coated
with white epoxy for wash-down.

All Stainless Drum Filler - (Photo 1130)

This is an all-stainless steel, sub-surface,
model DF-5510, semi -automatic, food
grade drum filler with a sanitary lance and
two infeed valves. The stainless
conveyors have wash-down duty motors
and the rollers have splash guards to
prevent contamination.

Simple Drum Filler (Photo 1127) -This

stripped-down, semi-automatic, top-fill
machine is a basic unit without the bells
and whistles. It is used primarily for filling
small batches of non-hazardous chemicals
into 55 gallon drums.

Drum & Pail Fillers

Standard Drum Filler (Photo

1104) This is the standard, model
DF-5510, a semi-automatic, subsurface, drum and pail filler that
uses a rod-less air cylinder to
raise and lower the lance. The
filler requires only 2 CFM of air to
operate. A typical fill cycle for a
55 gallon drum is one minute.

Filler for Various Containers - (Photo 1102) - This is

the standard, Model DF-5510, semi-automatic, subsurface drum and pail filler. The operator simply aligns
the bung opening to the lance then presses the start
button. The tare and fill cycle are then automatic. If the
conveyors are sized properly, this filler can fill 5 to 55
gallon containers with foaming liquids.

Stand-Alone Drum Filler - (Photo 1113)

This is a stand-alone, model DF-5511, top
fill machine for 55 gallon containers. The
operator aligns the bung opening to the
lance then presses the button. The tare
and fill are automatic. This filler has a type
X purge for class 1, division 1 rating.

Blending Drum Filler (Photo 1112) This

semi-automatic, top-fill machine with twin
input filling lines flowing through a single
lance is for a blending operation. The
operator can select either line to input
liquid by weight, or by volume.

Dual-Lance Filler (Photo

1117) This is a semiautomatic, top-fill, drum
filling machine with duallances. One lance is Kynar
to handle corrosive
chemicals and the other is
a 316L stainless lance.
This drum filler will
typically fill a 55 gallon
drum in 48 seconds.

Automatic Drum Fillers

Automatic Drum Orienting Filler

(Photo 1218) This model ADO-5510 drum filler is
designed to fill only 55 gallon drums with the bungs
previously removed. The system starts with a drum
escapement then a drum indexer that positions one
drum at a time at the rotator. At the rotator station,
the drum is raised by four skewed rollers. A tire on
one side and a cradle of wheels on the other
captures and centers the drum before rotating it.
(See photo 1216 below). A twin-strand chain
conveyor moves the drums from station to station.
A raise/lower scale platform lifts the drum off the
conveyor then signals the fill cycle to begin. The
full drum will convey to the bung and capping
station then through a wig-wag diverter that sends
drums to accumulate, left then right, automatically.

Automatic Drum Filler (Photo 1202) This is a modified, model

ADO-5510 filer. It is a dual-lance, automatic drum filler with subsurface lances used for filling one drum, or two, five gallon pails,
simultaneously. In fact, this filling system actually fills 5, 15, 30 & 55
gallon containers. Each drum is moved into the rotator to locate the
bung opening. The chain conveyor moves the drum, (see photo
1216 below) through the stations. The drum is raised and signals
the computer to start the fill cycle. When filled, the drum is
automatically discharged and the next empty drum at the rotator
station advances to the filler.

Automatic Drum Rotator (Photo 1216) Every ADO-5510 model drum filler
uses an automatic empty drum rotator before the filling station to orient the bung
opening at the six oclock position. Each drum is indexed into the rotator to locate
the bung opening. The chain conveyor moves the drum through the stations. The
drum is raised by a cradle of skewed rollers then captured between a tire and
pivoting wheels moved in and out by an air cylinder under the machine. A signal is
then sent to start the rotation. When the bung is located, a tapered plug is lowered
into the bung opening to lock the drum in the exact position needed before filling.
The drum is then lowered and conveyed directly under the filling station lance.

Quad Fillers

Automatic Drum Filler - (Photo 1304) Ideally

suited for filling viscous products into open-mouth
drums this special quad filler will automatically fill
four drums, sequentially. It uses electric, heatjacketed lances, because the viscous liquid must
remain hot to flow. A photo eye on the scale
conveyor recognizes the arrival of the pallet at the
filling station and starts the filling cycle. Each of
the four drums is filled sequentially then the pallet
is automatically discharged.

Quad Filler (Photo 1302) This is a model DF5541-4L, semi-automatic, quad head drum filler to
fill four drums sequentially. It is ideally suited for
slow-filling of highly viscous liquids. Once the
button is pushed, this filler allows the operator to
perform other functions, like bung and capping,
while four drums fill automatically.

Filling Drums & IBCs (Photo 1307) This

quad filler has all the bells and whistles. It fills four
drums sequentially, as well as one 220 gallon IBC
with a quick change-over. Accessories include
grounding clamps, a change-over lance for IBC, a
Type X nitrogen purge and a pneumatic blow-out
feature through the end of each lance.

Four Drum Alignment Station (Photo 1310)

Before filling, the drums are first aligned on the
pallet. An air-operated blade stop rises between
rollers to square-up the oncoming pallet then
air-operated side pushers capture the pallet.
The operator then arranges the bung openings
of the four empty drums. A platen with four
plugs is lowered to lock the drums in place. The
load then advances to the automatic quad filling
station.

Automatic Pail Fillers

Automatic, Four Head Pail Filler - (Photo 1414) There are four
empty pails ready to convey into the filling stations, behind the fill
heads, held by pneumatic drop-down pins. After a fill cycle, the row
of full pails drives out the front. Four chain conveyors transfer the
row of pails under the filling heads as full pails are discharged at the
same time. Pails are raised off the conveyor, tarred to zero weight
then filled to the programmed weight. Full pails convey to an
automatic lid station then a palletizer. The five gallon pail filling rate,
(using water) is 16 pails per minute.

Automatic Pail Filler (Photo 1407)

This sub-surface pail filler has been
adapted to run automatically. By
programming a limit switch and adding a
photo eye, it becomes an automatic pail
filling machine for open-top containers.

is another bung and capping station built for a, model
DF-5540, palletized drum and tote filler. The platform
is 15 long for the filling operator to manually remove
bungs from incoming loads, fill drums and totes at the
filling station, and replace bungs onto filled loads after
the filler.

Portable Bung & Capping Station (Photo 1666) Heres a

bung station on wheels. This option can be provided to any
existing filling station. The assembly is a welded manifold of
square tubing where compressed air is piped. The pneumatic
tools are simply hooked-up to shop airlines wherever the
operator feels comfortable.

Before & After Bunging (Photo 1665) This is a

single drum filler, model DF-5510, with a manual bung
removal and bung replacement station using
commercially available tools. This operator is removing
bungs while the filling operation continues in the
adjacent drum. The same tooling is placed after the
filler for replacing bungs.

Filler Options
Retractable Fume Skirt
(Photo 1530) - This filling lance,
fume skirt recovers 99% of
fumes and prevents splashback at the bung opening. It
uses a Teflon bellows, raised
and lowered by an air cylinder,
making a positive bung seal.
The PLC adjusts for the weight
before the filling cycle. Fumes
draw out through the side
exhaust pipe.

Sampling Valve (Photos 1630 & 1631)

The operator can open a valve during the
drum filling cycle and extract a sample for
testing. The computer adjusts the liquid
filling weight accordingly. The sampling
valve is built into the lance.
Overflow Pan (Photo 1508)
This fume booth with a drum
filler inside has a pull-out pan
under the filling station.
Depending on the size of the
container, the pan will typically
hold liquid equal to the size of
the container to be filled.

Pivoting Flush Adapter (Photos

1640) The pivoting arm moves 90
degrees and locks the flush adapter
in place. The operator presses a
button to lower the lance into the
adapter. A pair of draw latches locks
it in place. Flush timing is set for 1 to
999 seconds, or minutes.

Lance Flush
Adapter (Photo

rotates 360 degrees.
It has precision
machined couplings,
adjustable throat
assembly and high
temp, chemical
resistant seals.

as much as 50%, which will double the
filling production. The no-foam station is
provided on a welded steel skid. The
components include; a special lance,
motor, special pump, ball valves, flow
meter, NEMA 4 controls, couplings,
hoses, fittings, etc.

Safety Windshield - Photos 1645 & 1646) These

safety windshields, (Lexan or Plexiglas) are mounted
behind the operators handle to protect the operator from
dangerous chemicals and potential liquid splash-back.

Lance Rack (Photo 1658) - A lance

rack allows for draining and storing of
spare filling lances. It can be mounted
anywhere along the conveyor, or on the
plant floor. Lance racks can be built for
up to 10 filling lance assemblies and can
be made mobile as well.

Operator Platform (Photo 1690) This is a typical 4 x 15

operator platform with two way access, pivoting panel
mount, full length toe guards, handrails, galvanized deck
grating, and adjustable height supports. The operator can
