Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

The Risk of Reach
Sometimes its worth the risk to rock the boat. Survivor Eva
Hart remembered the night of April 15, 1912 when the Titanic
plunged 12,000 feet to the Atlantic floor after an iceberg tore
a 300-foot gash in the starboard side. She said, I heard
the cries of drowning people. She was in a lifeboat that was
only partly filled. Her lifeboat, No. 14, did row back to the
scene after the so-called unsinkable ship slipped from sight
at 2:20 a.m. It chased cries in the darkness and saved a
few, but no other boat joined it. They were fearful that there might be swimmers
who would cling to their craft and swamp it, so they callously ignored the needy.
Jesus declared that He came to seek and to save the lost and commissioned
us to represent and declare Him to the unsaved in every nation (Matthew 28:19,
20). Coming face to face with horrendous evil and tremendous need rocks
our boat and our world. We are asking you to have a No Boundaries vision
this weekend by the risk of reach, as Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall once
preached. Be a witness to the peoples (Isaiah 55:4). Do the different during
our Kingdom Missions Conference.
We welcome my long-time friend, Dr. Tom Elliff, to the pulpit. A pastor of large
churches, a missionary in Africa, and former President of the International
Mission Board, Tom is a Spirit-filled visionary who will challenge us to reach
the world. I trust that you have met many of the missionaries and have been in
their seminars. Each represents an area of great need, which our church has
uniquely adopted through personal contact with our members.
Lets not see all the horror of the sinking, as Eva Hart noted, but rescue
the perishing. We may be rocking the boat of some with the new Kingdom
Missions Offering. We truly experience Gods activity when we adjust to new
vision and opportunities. Please make a commitment at the end of the worship
service to give year-long and systematically to this offering. It will enable us
to greatly multiply our mission giving above and beyond the regular Operating
Budget, a major percentage of which also supports Southern Baptist Missions.
Go to one of the missionaries at the end of the service, place your commitment
card in the basket which he/she is holding, and pray for them as you do. Even if
you are not led at this point to make a commitment, check the box for prayer.
The risk is worth the reach of faith.
