The Meltdown
W h e re : NerdMelt Showroom (in the back of Meltdown Comics and Collectibles), West
Hollywood
W h e n : Every Wednesday
To actually call this show -- which takes place in the back of a comic book store, has
spawned its own show on Comedy Central, and is co-hosted by one of the dudes from
Silicon Valley -- "underground" is sort of stretching. Calling it totally worth going to? Not
stretching at all, since it's seen drop-ins by everyone from Sarah Silverman, to Dave
Chapelle, to the late, great Robin Williams.
TRAVIS RUST
Sleepaway Camp
W h e re : The Downtown Independent, Downtown
W h e n : Every Tuesday
This is one of the oddest comedy shows in LA, with headliners like recent Netflix-special
funnylady Maria Bamford and Anchorman's David Koechner performing between hosts
and riffing on existential concepts like "prophecies" or "space." Heady!

Warp Zone
W h e re : The Virgil, Silver Lake
W h e n : The last Tuesday of each month
Though the Virgil was envisioned as a rock club, the crafty cocktails and peanut butter
stout have been making great comedy percolate as well; this killer night brings in
headliners like Pete Holmes (CollegeHumor's Badman) and Joe Mande (Parks and
Recreation writer).

FRINGE/MEGAN BAKER
Fringe
W h e re : 1739 Public House, Los Feliz
W h e n : Every Monday
It's worth fighting your way through the hordes of bros at Public House to make it to
Fringe, which is essentially a showcase for up-and-comers to practice their sets for talk
shows; it's mostly new talent, though Alonzo Bodden (Last Comic Standing winner) and
Iliza Shlesinger (Last Comic Standing winner, also!) have passed through. Regardless,
you'll leave satisfied: the whole thing's free -- and so's the pizza. And the beer!
Crave Comedy
W h e re : Secret locations
W h e n : Secret dates
Craves secret locations make it one of the most interesting comedy experiences in town
-- that and the fact that it becomes a gigantic after-hours dance party when its over. As
creator Alex Hooper says, "comedy first, epic party afterwards." Comics like Demetri
Martin (the dork in In a World..., and the main character in Taking Woodstock) and noted
