EAST CHRISTCHURCH-SHIRLEY CRICKET CLUB

ES 8 Team Report 2009-10 Season

Date: 17/10/09 Opposition: OBC12 Result: Loss
Game Report: We batted first and managed to bat out our innings. Oscar top scored with 23 runs, 2 run
outs and a catch. Oscar Stiles 23. Olly Brunton 2-7.

Date: 24/10/09 Opposition: SYD16 Result: Loss

Game Report: We thought it was all over when we only scored 22 all out. Amazingly we almost won when
we had them 22-7 and their best batsmen were already out. A couple of streaky edges won them the
game. Jarvis Hansen 2-3, Olly Brunton 2-5, Lachie Pentecost 2-7, Ryan Campbell 2-16, Harris Hunter 2-
17

Date: 31/10/09 Opposition: BWU7 Result: Win

Game Report: Sebastian Flynn in only his second game ever top scored with 33 no and also claimed two
fantastic run outs. Other good batting displays also. Damon Garland bowled very well and collected a
wicket with each of the first deliveries of his two overs and then a caught and bowled to finish. S Flynn 33
retired, J Hansen 31*, O Brunton 25*, O Stiles 22. D Garland 3-12, L Pentecost 2-11.

Date: 7/11/09 Opposition: SYD18 Result: Win

Game Report: All out for 88 in the 17th. Went on to bat out our 25 overs and added another 80 runs for
the loss of just one more wicket. They crawled there way to our total of 88 and won. They would never
have got to 160 if we'd only batted out. Harrison Richards 35

Date: 14/11/09 Opposition: MP6 Result: Win

Game Report: Our best win yet. They batted out the 25 overs and reached 103/5, good bowling
prevented them from scoring too freely. Our openers set a good platform with a partnership of 61 for the
first wicket. We knocked their total off inside 15 overs. J Hansen 26*, L Pentecost 24*, H Richards 22, H
Richards 2-3

Date: 21/11/09 Opposition: MED10 Result: Win

Game Report: Wow it just gets better! Jarvis hit a great 26 runs off his final over and Ryan bowled
extremely well taking 2 wickets for 2 runs off 3 overs. J Hansen 58*, O Brunton 20. R Campbell 2-2.

Date: 5/12/09 Opposition: SYD15 Result: Win

Game Report: Demolished them in under 11 overs. Lachie was seeing the ball as if it were a beach ball
and hit them everywhere. L Pentecost 60*

Date: 12/12/09 Opposition: OBC17 Result: Win

Game Report: Lachie continued his fine scoring record and hit them to all corners of the field. L
Pentecost 33*, H Richards 22*, R Campbell 16*. L Pentecost 2-5.

Date: 19/12/09 Opposition: SYD18 Result: Win

Game Report: Harry scored 18x4 in a score of 81* off 39 balls! It was our day in the sun as this team had
previously beaten us. We didn't give them a chance and played our best game of the season. H Richards
81*, L Pentecost 42, O Brunton 30*, K Beban 25*. J Hansen 2-4

Date: 30/01/10 Opposition: SUM5 Result: Win

Game Report: Our first game after being promoted up to section 2. We took most catches and bowled
tightly to have them all out in the last over. Good knocks by Jarvis & Harry got us home. J Hansen 32, H
Richards 31.
Date: 06/02/10 Opposition: HAL7 Result: Loss
Game Report: 5 ducks! Ouch that hurts after winning 6 in a row. Dropped too many catches and
everything turned to custard. J Hansen 25*, C Brandon 21. R Campbell 2-0-0

Date: 13/02/10 Opposition: HAL6 Result: Loss

Game Report: Lost the toss and were put in to bat. An early run out of opening batsmen
Jarvis set the tone of the game. We lost more early wickets before Harry and Conner steadied the ship
and got us through to 85 all out in the 18th over. Their batsmen were rock solid and we couldn't bowl them
out. This team had only dropped one game all season and we could see why. They reached our
total in the 17th over.

Date: 20/02/10 Opposition: SYD12 Result: Loss

Game Report: We lost the toss again and were put in to bat at Bower park. Lachie looked in good touch
as he was striking boundaries freely and the runs started to build. Conner and Harry put on a good
partnership after Lachie retired on 34 from 35 balls. We reached 177/4 after our 25 overs and thought we
had built a defendable total. They had other ideas and this former section 1 team established a good
opening partnership and went on to win the game as we failed to take wickets.

Date: 6/3/10 Opposition: OBC12 Result: Loss

Game Report: We won the toss and Harry our Captain chose to field. We had played this team in the first
game of the season and lost narrowly. We improved a lot on the previous weeks bowling/fielding effort and
restricted them to 118 for 5. Sebastian Flynn was the best of the bowlers with two for 13 from three overs.
We didn't start the chase too well, Olly went for a duck. Harry and Conner then put together a good
partnership until Conner was run out on 19. Lachie scored 10 runs from his first two balls faced and was
caught soon after. In came Jarvis who clubbed a quick 28 off 19 balls and we were now looking rather
shaky. The tail didn't wag too long and we were bowled out two runs short of their total of 118. A good
effort, but not good enough.

Date: 13/3/10 Opposition: SYD12 Result: Loss

Game Report: We won the toss and Captain Harry chose to field first. Their opening pair put on a good
steady partnership and proved difficult to remove. One scored 36* and the other 21 and together they got
them off to a great start. Some tight bowling reined in the score and we contained them to 152 for 5
off 25 overs. Ryan Campbell was the pick of the bowlers again with 1/7 from 3 overs. In we went to bat
and Bass Flynn had them bamboozled with his left hand pull shots and he raced to 23 along with Oscar
Stiles who scored a sweet 17 runs. Conner came in and had them really worried scoring 28 off 19 balls.
Things dulled down in the middle overs and we left the charge too late and only managed 136/6 with Jarvis
Hansen on 19* and Lachie Pentecost on 7*. Lost by 16 runs.

Date: 20/3/10 Opposition: HAL8 Result: Win

Game Report: Having studied this teams performances I thought we'd struggle as they had a
good record. They won a dubious toss and put us in to bat. Harry and Conner opened and we were off to a
flier until Conner was run out on 18. In came Jarvis - another one run out this time for 4. Harry went on
to score a well compiled 27 and Bass Flynn again frustrated the opposition with his ability to cut and pull a
great 27*. We scored just 95 all out in 20.4 overs. Our team bowled really well with minimal extras and
great fielding. We had them 40 for 6 and there had been several decisions that went against us which may
have meant an early finish. One of their batsmen retired but had to come back in with them requiring 20
from the last wicket with 3 overs in hand. They put on 10 runs in 1.5 overs before we ran out the last
batsmen. A good win by 10 runs. As always the sportsmanship shown by the boys was
exemplary.
