A step-change innovation
delivering a complete build system
with continuous insulation
Passivhaus
Originating in Germany, the term Passivhaus refers to a construction method for energy efficient buildings
that require little energy for space heating or cooling.
With 90% less space heating required than a standard building, a Passivhaus is designed to assure a
comfortable indoor climate in summer and require only nominal heating through the winter months without the
need for a conventional heating system.
Beattie Passive
A New Era For Construction
With companies facing increased pressure to reduce the cost and environmental impact of construction, as well
as improve energy efficiency levels, Beattie Passive combines advanced build techniques with extensive product
knowledge to bring a new era to the construction industry.
Traditional construction methods involve numerous joints between floors, walls and roofs, and each joint will
experience inevitable heat and air loss leading to increased energy requirements.
To overcome these issues and offer the energy efficiency values of a Passivhaus, the Beattie Passive patented
system delivers a construction forming foundation beams, ground floor, walls and roof built to form a continuous
void. Once in place, non-flammable insulation material is injected into the floor, wall and ceiling cavities, creating one
continuous seal. No joints, no leaks.
Code 3-6 and Passivhaus structure for less than your current build costs
Full design flexibility any building, any shape
90% reduction in heating requirements
CO2 emissions can be cut by as much as 100%
Higher levels of fire safety, sound-proofing, thermal efficiency and air tightness
Fast on-site erection
Minimal on-site material wastage
Only semi-skilled labour required for erection
Sustainable materials from a fully certified supply chain
Easier inspection as all structural elements are open
LABC registered approval/NHBC certified
High Quality
Product Performance
The Beattie Passive system achieves superior levels of energy efficiency compared with both traditional and existing
new methods of construction. Beattie Passive carries out testing on each building to guarantee the performance of:
Cavity Insulation
Cavity insulation is applied on-site by skilled installers to guarantee the delivery of a continuous insulated building
that is tested by thermal imaging.
Air Tightness
Beattie Passive design methodology details each junction for air tightness and achieves levels as low as
0.50m3/hm2 (@50pa).
Acoustics
Particularly important for terraced houses and apartment buildings, the independent party wall and ceiling designs
give high levels of sound proofing up to 65db. Sound and impact testing is carried out on each build.
Fire Resistance
The insulation material used to fill the continuous void exceeds all build requirements and is non-flammable.
In addition, the building is clad with non-combustible material.
U-Values
A U-value is the measurement of heat transfer through a
given building, which is particularly important in achieving the
desired energy efficiency levels of Passivhaus build. Therefore,
all walls, floor and roof construction details have been tested
with hot box testing and Passivhaus modelling. The lower the
value, the better the insulated building.
Convection Looping
Convection looping occurs when warm air from the inside
hits the cold air on the outside of a building, it rises and
convects, pulling more warm air to the outside. There are
three main causes: cold bridges between timber studs and at
junctions on walls, floors and roofs; gaps between insulation
at abutments; poorly fitted insulation in cavities.
The negative effect of convection looping can lead to:
Reduced U-value performance
Increased heating requirements
Increased CO2 emissions
Distorted SAP calculations
Beattie Passives build system overcomes any
issue with convection looping due to its continuous
insulation seal. No gaps, no looping, no loss.

From Vision
To Reality
Due to the flexible design capabilities combined with the huge energy and environmental benefits of this build
system, Passivhaus construction is rapidly gaining momentum amongst bespoke and self build projects.
Beattie Passive works closely with architects and individuals to turn a much-anticipated vision into a high quality
dream home reality. Taking any design, we will incorporate all the key passive values of our build system and supply
you with quality 3D designs, along with a comprehensive list of material components, including erection plans,
structural engineers calculations and building regulation drawings for the structure. All materials are readily available
from nationwide suppliers.
Ease-of-Build
Our method of construction offers an easy to assemble frame-link build system. Working from assembly drawings,
each member is coded to its attachment member allowing just semi-skilled labour to be employed.
Quality as Standard
We inspect and performance test every Beattie Passive house to ensure the highest standards of construction are
maintained. We carry out stringent air tightness, thermal imaging and sound migration tests following structural
completion and only upon reaching the design standard, will we issue a quality assurance certificate.
Bespoke Projects and Self Build key benefits:
Flexible design and construction
High quality build
Reduced cost and time to build
Improved energy efficiency
Reduced fuel bills
Reduced carbon emissions
Reduced sound migration
Easy access to materials via established supply chain
Full testing certification for each build
LABC registered approval/NHBC certified

For Developers
With the Passivhaus concept as the basis of the Code for Sustainable Homes (the UKs national standard for sustainable design and
construction of new homes) the building industry has a viable alternative to traditional building methods and products that offers
greater design flexibility alongside the immediate reality of exceptional savings on both heating and cooling of the building.
