Catholic Charities of the East Bay Appoints Stephen Mullin to

Parish Outreach Manager
East Bay social services agency selects manager with deep background in
Diocese of Oakland parish life
OAKLAND, Calif. February 24, 2015 Catholic Charities of the East Bay, a social services
agency serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, has selected Stephen Mullin as parish
outreach manager.
Mr. Mullin will focus on connecting parishioners in the Diocese of Oakland to the mission
and services of Catholic Charities. In addition to expanding awareness of the organization, he
will engage with other Catholic-based social services, creating new agency partnership
opportunities throughout the parish community and the East Bay at large.
The Catholic Church is the largest provider of social services throughout Alameda and
Contra Costa Counties. Catholic Charities, founded in 1935, is the visible face of the diocese in
that work, providing social services and advocacy for the working poor and underserved in the
East Bay.
We are excited to welcome Stephen to our management team," said Chuck Fernandez,
Catholic Charities CEO. We no longer want to be the best kept secret in the Bay Area. By
reaching out to parishes, and meeting their needs, we will be a center of excellence in moving
families from immediate crisis to stability and ultimately to prosperity.
During the past 23 years, Mr. Mullin has served parishes in the Diocese of Oakland in
several key East Bay posts. In 1991 he was appointed the pastoral associate at St. Joseph
Basilica Parish in Alameda, where he was responsible for the Adult Faith Formation and Young
Adults outreach programs. In 2001 he was appointed by Bishop John Cummins to be parish life
director of All Saints Parish in Hayward. There he was responsible for the administration and
pastoral care of the parish.

Reflecting deep Bay Area roots, Mr. Mullin received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of San Francisco with a major in theology and a minor in business. He completed
graduate studies at St. Patrick's Seminary and University in Menlo Park and taught Pastoral
Ministry courses at Holy Names University in Oakland. In addition, he was a visiting scholar at
the historic Pusey House in Oxford, England.
