Short Term:
Where short-term vibration causes floors to vibrate, if v is no greater than 20 mm/s when
measured at the point of maximum velocity (which s usually at the center of the floor), a
reduction in the serviceability of the floor is not to be expected. In the case of buildings as in
line 3 of table 1, it may be necessary to lower this value to prevent minor damage.
Long Term:
Experience has shown that vertical vibration velocities up to 10 mm/s do not cause damage in
floors of structures as in lines 1 and 2 of table 3, even if the maximum design stresses are
fully utilized. Such vibration is very clearly perceptible. For structures as in line 3 of table 3,
no guideline value can be given for vertical vibration.
