TOWN & COUNTRY RAMBLE - OUTLINE ITINERARY


WED, OCT 26- UNITED STATES TO DUBLIN
Depart your hometown and take an overnight flight across the Atlantic.
THU, OCT 27- DUBLIN ARRIVAL
Your CIE Tours driver/guide will welcome you to Ireland and escort you and your
luggage to the coach. Drive to the nearby Glasnevin Museum, Irelands national
necropolis, which is final resting place of many prominent Irish people. Before
you begin your tour, enjoy breakfast at the onsite caf. After your visit, drive into
the city center for an orientation drive. Visit Guinness Storehouse to see exhibits
on how this world famous stout was first created and why it is so popular today.
Finish your visit in the roof-top bar, Gravity, overlooking the city center where
you can sample a draft Guinness and enjoy the view of the city. Then check into
your hotel and enjoy some time to relax before tonights festivities.
Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner as you cruise along Dublins Grand Canal.
OVERNIGHT: ALEXANDER HOTEL, DUBLIN
FRI, OCT 28- DUBLIN SIGHTSEEING
Set off with a local guide who will show you around the prominent historic
buildings and monuments of Dublin. Stop to tour St. Patrick's Cathedral,
which is almost as old as the city itself. Next stop in Trinity College to view the
8th century Book of Kells. The rest of the afternoon and evening are free for
independent activities, sightseeing, shopping, dining, pubs and much more.
OVERNIGHT: ALEXANDER HOTEL, DUBLIN
SAT, OCT 29- IRISH NATIONAL STUD & CORK TOUR
Leaving Dublin drive to Kildare which is in the heart of Ireland's horse
country. A visit to the Irish National Stud will show you the history and current
trends of horse-breeding in Ireland. Then take a walk around the Japanese
Gardens which were established in 1908 and represent the "Life of Man"
from cradle to grave in the traditional Japanese style of gardening. Also see
the charming St. Fiachras Garden with water features and beehive huts.
Next travel to the Rock of Cashel to take photos of the huge outcrop with
many ecclesiastical ruins, which trace the history of Christianity in Ireland.
Continue your drive south past the gentle slopes of the Galtee Mountains
and rich dairying country to Cork on the south coast. Upon arrival embark on
a walking tour of the main areas of Cork, Ireland's second largest city set on
the River Lee. Next visit the English Market, which has been in business for
over 112 years. It is highlighted by food historians and writers as well as
local, national and international media outlets as a food emporium. The
English Market was visited by Queen Elizabeth II and H.R.H. the Duke of
Edinburgh on May 20, 2011. After your visit, check into your hotel and settle
into your room before dinner.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: IMPERIAL HOTEL, CORK
SUN, OCT 30- MICHAEL COLLINS CENTRE, CHARLES FORT & KINSALE
After breakfast, travel to the fishing town of Clonakilty. Upon arrival visit the
Michael Collins Centre and proceed to the Cottage/theatre for a twenty minute
audio visual which explores his childhood, family history, school days and the
important Collins sites around Clonakilty. The presentation ends with a guided
tour of the ambush trail. Then you will have some free time to explore on your
own. Continue your drive to visit Charles Fort, which was constructed in the
late 17th century on the site of an earlier coastal fortification. Charles Fort is a
classic example of a star-shaped fort and William Robinson, architect of the
Royal Hospital in Kilmainham, Dublin, and Superintendent of Fortifications, is
credited with designing the Fort. Then enjoy some free time in Kinsale in what
is dubbed the Gourmet Capital of Ireland. Return to Cork in time for dinner.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: IMPERIAL HOTEL, CORK

MON, OCT 31- COBH & BALLYMALOE COOKERY SCHOOL


Today, drive a short distance to the east of Cork to Cobh, the harbor town for
large ships. Visit the Cobh Heritage Centre, which depicts the varied history of
emigration from Ireland and many European countries to the United States
over the past 150 years. Cobh was the last port of call for the "Titanic" and
many liners that carried emigrants to the New World. This informative display is
housed in the rail station through which all of the Irish emigrants had to pass.
In the afternoon, enjoy a cooking lesson at the Ballymaloe Cookery School.
Ballymaloe is not only a byword for good food but also one of Europes
foremost cookery schools. At its heart is a culinary philosophy founded on
enhancing the natural flavors of the best and freshest local ingredients. Facilities at the school are first class and Ballymaloe has a reputation for a warm
welcome from staff, tutors and the many guest chefs. The courses are intensive, but the atmosphere is always friendly and individual attention is always
given to every student. After your cooking lesson, enjoy an authentic Irish dinner with your group. Then return to Cork and settle in for the evening.
OVERNIGHT: IMPERIAL HOTEL, CORK
TUE, NOV 1- BLARNEY CASTLE & MUCKROSS HOUSE
Leave Cork and drive just a few miles to Blarney where you will have an
opportunity to climb to the battlements of Blarney Castle to kiss the famed
"Stone of Eloquence." Also visit the Blarney Woollen Mills, which have a good
range of Irish products before heading west into the mountainous country of
County Kerry. Just outside Killarney visit Muckross House, a 19th century
mansion set in a magnificent setting on the shores of Muckross Lake with
the mountains in the background. Take a guided tour around the house with
its elegant furnishings. Also stroll through the gardens and take photos. An
old-fashioned horse drawn jaunting car will bring you back to Killarney.
Upon arrival check into your hotel for dinner and your overnight stay.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: KILLARNEY PLAZA HOTEL, KILLARNEY
WED, NOV 2- RING OF KERRY TOUR
Today explore the Ring of Kerry - 100 miles of marvelous scenery consisting
of the highest peaks in Ireland on one side and a coastline scattered with
golden beaches and rocky headlands on the other. Enjoy plenty of stops to
view the scenery and take photos. Travel through Glenbeigh and Cahirciveen and on to Waterville and the colorful village of Sneem. Stop at
Ladys View for a view of the three lakes of Killarney with the mountains and
the town in the background. Return to Killarney for some time to freshen up
before dinner at the hotel restaurant.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT: KILLARNEY PLAZA HOTEL, KILLARNEY
THU, NOV 3- CLIFFS OF MOHER & MEDIEVAL BANQUET
Leaving Killarney travel via Tralee and Listowel to Tarbert where you take the
ferry across the wide mouth of the River Shannon. Drive via Lahinch to view
the Cliffs of Moher. After your visit, drive to your hotel in Ennis and check in.
You may wish to relax or freshen up before tonights festivities. This evening
join in the fun and feasting at Bunratty Castle. Your medieval-style banquet
is served in the Great Hall of the 15th century castle.
OVERNIGHT: OLD GROUND HOTEL ENNIS
FRI, NOV 4- RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES
All too soon, your vacation in Ireland has come to the end. Transfer to Dublin
Airport in plenty of time to check in for your flight, clear security and claim your
VAT refund. You may do some last minute shopping at the duty free stores
before boarding your aircraft and flying west across the Atlantic Ocean back
to the United States.
