Reprising her role on the

hit Dallas remake keeps the
Brazilian beauty and Fast and
Furious star on the move.
We caught up with her
between takes for a chat
and a spring fashion preview.

Jordana Brewster is tired. Fresh off a red-eye flight from London, where

For more than a decade, Brewster has

been part of the Fast and Furious team;
she considers the cast her familia. And
since last summer, when she resumed
work on Dallas, shes been as busy
bonding as running lines. What I love
about doing a TV show is that the actors
and crew spend so much time together,
we become so familiar with each other,
she says. Its such a pleasure to work
on such a personal level.
And so when the shocking news
came in November that Larry Hagman,
the legendary actor who played the
Dallas patriarch, had passed away,
Brewsters on-screen family did what
families do: They circled the wagons
to support one another through their
grief. Its been kind of beautiful,
Brewster says. Everyone has been
sharing their stories about Larry. We
all feel so lucky to have been able to
work with this amazing person. He
was so full of life. I learned so much
just by observing him, and Im so glad
I got to do that.
On the show, which returns Jan.
28, Brewster, 32, portrays Mexicanimmigrant daughterturnedenergyresources expert Elena Ramos, and the
opportunity to play the role of a Latina
that goes against stereotypes is another
thing she says she is grateful for. Elena
is a geologist, supersmart, beautiful
but not overly sexy. I feel very lucky,
Brewster says. When I first read the
part, I loved Elenas integrity and her
ambition. Shes a beautifully strong
woman, not a caricature.
In the past, her exotic looks made
her seem other, she says, and parts
she wanted went to blonde, blue-eyed

types. But now my being exotic is an

asset and I can play more roles, she
says. As a matter of a fact, her unconventional allure and no-nonsense sensibility are part of the reason why
executive producer Cynthia Cidre cast
Brewster as Elena. She is exactly what
I envisioned Elena to be, says the
Cuban American. Not a va-va-voom
kind of woman. I imagined Elena to be
a great studentsomeone who was
studious, direct and smart. Jordana is
all of those things.
But on this crisp Los Angeles morning, as she poses for her Latina cover,
its the Yale grads body, not her brains,
that puts the camera in focus. But
while she enjoys fawning for the camera, Brewster wants more from her
career than the opportunity to do sizzling photo shoots.
I really respect people who excel at
acting and use it as a springboard to go
on to produce, says Brewster, who
admires Salma Hayeks trailblazing
career. That to me is the epitome of
success, because after a while you want
to generate your own material.
Luckily, she has the perfect teacher
right at home. Married to Andrew
Form, a producer of 2009s Friday the
13th and the upcoming Ninja Turtles
film, Brewster has been taking notes
since the two walked down the aisle
nearly six years ago.
Its so amazing to have a husband
in the business with whom I can talk
about work and who can challenge the
way I look at film, says Brewster, who
currently splits the year between
Dallas and her home in Los Angeles.
But the hip Hollywood couple may

soon have a lot more to talk about

than the ins and outs of the movie
business. Brewster says they are ready
for the next big step: children.
When she does become a parent,
Brewster is determined to give her children an upbringing similar to her own.
My parents traveled with me and my
sister when we were young, so we got
to experience so many cultures, says
the actress, who was born in Panama,
then raised in London and Rio de
Janeiro before moving to New York at
age 10. It broadened my perspective.
I want my kids to speak Portuguese as
I do and to travel with me.
But before she gets to those
Portuguese lessons, Brewster gets to
practice being a parent on-screen. In
Fast 6, Brewsters character, Mia
Toretto, is a mom this time, but that
doesnt make her any less a part of the
action. For evidence, Brewster proudly
shows off the bumps and bruises she
sustained from all the running around
and stunt workinjuries the Dallas
crew then has to cover with makeup.
To keep up with her busy work schedule, Brewster says meditation has
helped her achieve centeredness: Its
so key to be focused on what youre
doing, she says. Meditating keeps me
motivated.
Brewster is clearly focused on her
soaring career, and on maintaining a
grounded home life with Formeven
though shes literally in the air most
of the time. As befits the star of
street-racing action flicks, shes got
her hands tight on the wheel and is
enjoying the ride. And were loving
watching her take it.

she shot a few scenes for the upcoming Fast and Furious 6, the Brazilian
American actress is in Los Angeles for her first Latina cover shoot. Moments
after it wraps, shes rushed to LAX airport to board a plane to Texas, where
shes filming the second season of the TNT relaunch of Dallas. Even though
Brewster is working insane hours, the entire process is easier thanks to
her family-like relationship with her costars.
