Presidents Letter
Walking into the room & seeing it packed with Walthersonians at the February quarterly meeting was
thrilling! Im glad we had the speakers that brought you out to hear about the water bills and also the
upcoming new businesses next to Bi Rite Grocery on Belair Rd. It seems our bills keep going up and
having Vince Pompa from Public Water Works explain it reassured me that our bill wasnt a mistake. He
advised that we were all getting new meters but will have sufficient notice when each persons will be
installed. This will assure accuracy in the billing/usage process. He is willing to discuss any possible
billing mistakes. If you feel your bill is wrong, you may contact him at 410-396-9504.
Im also excited for the owners of Bi Rite Grocery & the new businesses they are having built next to the
store: Dunkin Donuts, PNC Bank, & a Dollar Tree. While they looked at many businesses, getting t he
desired business wasnt easy. For example, they agreed it would be nice to have Panara Bread, but
these businesses didnt find this a desirable place for their time & money. Also, bank lenders were
limited to what they would approve. We took a vote to accept the construction (vote needed for the
drive-thru on the Dunkin Donuts), which passed. Construction will hopefully be complete in August
2015.
We welcomed Ronisha Moore back on the WIA Board with a unanimous vote for 2 nd Vice President. We
announced an opening for Member at Large & believe we have a long-time member who is interested.
Then, Rob & I were honored to be invited to a Community Leaders Round Table event, sponsored by
Healthy Neighborhoods in which the leaders of the surrounding areas came together to discuss various
topics. Unfortunately, only half of the expected leaders were in attendance, however it didnt stop us
from benefiting from the discussions at hand. We had several speakers, shared ideas, discussed
situations, businesses, housing, increasing membership, helping the elderly, etc. We learned more of
how Healthy Neighborhoods & Hamilton Mainstreet contribute to our areas & how we work together
with other neighborhoods to make it one vision for a great community. We benefited so much from
this that we decided to meet quarterly. The next gathering will be in May.
Again, I hope you are staying warm & have checked on your neighbors. Also remember that animals can
freeze outside, so please be mindful when you let your pets out & only allow them to be out for short
periods. Remember to clear your sidewalks; it is the law. Anyone walking on your sidewalk who slips
can find you legally liable. So, if you cannot do it yourself, please ask for help. If you have an elderly
person next to you, please be kind & shovel for them. Someday, the tables may turn & you may be in
need.
Spring is only a few weeks away! Have faith; warmer days are a comin!

Housing Updates
3100 Rueckert Ave 3100 Rueckert Ave has
been a blighted concern in Waltherson for over 4
years now. The property has been going through
the receivership process for some time with no
visible progress towards remediation of our
concerns. Representatives from the Waltherson
Improvement Association and Hamilton-Lauraville
Healthy Neighbors attended a court hearing on the
morning of March 3rd and we are thrilled to report that the stay has been lifted on the property
so it can be auctioned and renovated in the near future.
