ALPINE BINDINGS
Welcome to the new Winter 2011/2012 technical manual for the ROSSIGNOL groups various brands of ski bindings
(including Rossignol, Look ski bindings).
This document is designed to be easy to use, a document where sales people and technicians (beginners or experienced)
will find all the necessary technical information they need to answer any questions they have or that they may be asked.
You will find all the precautions you need to take and the different stages to follow so that your
assemblies, adjustments, maintenance work and repairs are correct and carried out under the best
possible conditions.
This document is an update of the previous editions; we recommend that you keep a copy of the previous manuals to help
answer any customer questions and to guarantee an efficient after-sales service.
This manual provides guidelines for performing functionality tests and adjustments of the ski/binding/shoe arrangements.
Following these guidelines will help reduce the risk of injury from mechanical malfunctions of the release binding systems.
However, skiing entails risks, inherent or otherwise. Injury can be caused by a simple fall, a collision with an object or any
other cause. Many injuries are not attributable to the bindings. Moreover, even if it works fine, you cannot guarantee that
your boot/binding system will release at any time under any circumstances. The user of these procedures should understand that following these guidelines does not, under any circumstances, constitute a complete prevention against potential
accidents.

Checks
No bindings will operate correctly with boots which do not comply
with current international standards, i.e. ISO standard 5355 for ski
boots for adults and children and ISO 8364 for skis.
In your capacity as technician, it is your responsibility to ensure that
the skis and shoes being used conform to current international standards, before proceeding to mount and adjust the bindings according
to the ISO 11088 standard.
As the technician, you are responsible for checking compliance with
the standard before assembly and adjustment.
Otherwise, we could not guaranty the right functionning of our bindings.
Ski :
Skis are designed to include a reinforced area for mounting the binding
according to the ISO 8364 standard.
We advise to follow the ski manufacturing guidelines in regards to drill
bit section and when to use a tab.
Boots :
Most current alpine ski boots are designed in compliance with the ISO
53555 standard.
This standard defines the interfaces compatible with ski bindings.
Ski boots should have an ISO 5355 marking.
If they do not, they should not be used.
When a customer purchases new bindings, he/she must receive the instructions included in the binding packaging.
It is imperative for the technician to provide the customer with a signed and dated adjustment data sheet (included in the instructions supplied with every pair of bindings) or a signed form completed by the shop comprising the adjustments and tests performed.
Caution
All Rossignol-Look bindings and all bindinglifter systems of the
Rossignol-Dynastar-Look brands are designed and manufactured in
accordance with current standards, in particular as regards the efficiency of the stop ski brake and the wrenching resistance of the
screws.
The use of double lifter plates or unsuitable lifter plates (excessively
high, for example ...) may not comply with current standards.
We would also like to point out that equipment performance depends
on strictly complying with the assembly instructions supplied to retailers with the bindings and lifter plates.
The technician who assembles the bindings must not mix parts from
different products. Product repairs should only be performed by specialised technicians using original spare parts supplied by the aftersales services of Skis Rossignol SAS and Skis Dynastar SAS.
In all cases, the retailer must check that the products comply with
the requirements of standard ISO 11088, particularly when carrying
out release measurements on the ski/boot/binding see procedure
on page 40.
In case of non respect of these instructions, we decline all responsibility.

Drilling
Skis equiped with original pre-drilled interfaces must not be drilled again
during assembly.
All the skis were developed in compliance with ISO standard 8364 to ensure
that there is a reinforced mounting area for the binding.
Choice of appropriate drill bush :
Use the table opposite or the information tags at the ends of the template to
select the correct drill bushes according to the type of binding.
Choice of drill bit :
Follow the manufacturers instructions for the choice of the diameter and
depth of drilling.
Otherwise, use the indications in the table opposite.
Drilling :
Before drilling, check again that the bit is not too long.
Drill the corresponding holes in the toe and heel through the bushes of the
gauge, pressing moderately on the drill.
Always be sure to drill a hole deep enough to take the entire length of the
screw. Otherwise, there is a risk of damage to the ski sole.
make sure the drill bit has bevelled the edges of the holes.
after drilling it is essential to turn the ski over and tap the bottom several
times with the palm of the hand to remove cuttings from the holes.
Note : If the type of ski core is not known, drill the hole with the smallest 3.5
mm diameter drill bit to determine any presence of metal.
In the event of a ski with a metal plate (metal present in the cuttings),
widen the hole with a 4.1 mm diameter drill bit..
Make sure to check the group and the recommendations of the ski manufacturer regarding the length of the drill and the screws to be used.
Special cases :
Axial2 Race , PX Team:
Use a 9.5 mm drill bit for these bindings because they have adult length
screws and must be used in the same way as for adult bindings, on adult skis.
For mounting on a group 3 & 4 ski (junior), see Mounting specifics p.21.

Gluing
It is recommended to apply a drop of ROSSIGNOL-LOOK glue before inserting the binding screws. This special ROSSIGNOL-LOOK glue allows :
a lubrication of the screw during screwing,
to be waterproof
to prevent the screws from loosening.
Fill each hole with a drop of glue.
Screws
Use a Type Pozidrive n3.
Check if the screws length is compatible with the ski thickness.
For more information about the Look-Rossignol-Dynatar screws to
use, consult the spare parts catalogue
At the end of the operation, check by hand that your screws are
firmly fastened.
All Rossignol-Dynastar-Look-Roxy ski bindings are delivered with their
screws pre-mounted on the toes and the heels.

These bindings are intended for mounting on adult standard skis (Groups 1 & 2), they have adult length screws and should be used as adult
bindings with adult standard boots. In all cases, make sure that you remain in the ISO mounting area.
They are not compatible with children standard boots.
Axial 2 / PX bindings cannot be mounted on junior standard skis (Groups 3 & 4), (no short screws available).
These bindings are intended for mounting on ski groups 3 & 4, child standard (groups 3 & 4, 6 mm installation).
Caution: if they are mounted on group 2 skis (adult standard), replace the screws with 8-mm installation screws and use the drill recommended by the ski manufacturer.
Comp J, Team 4, T4 bindings are compatible with adult and children boots.
Mounting procedure :
Remove the front and rear screws of the binding and replace them with the
screws supplied in the kit.
Remove the binding Spacers if there are any.
adapt the plate under the toe and heel, allowing the screws to protrude
slightly.
The bindings are assembled according to the method used for a binding
without a plate (Cf. pages 5 to 7).
Lifter precision :
Using lifters and plates and in particular, combining them or superimpose
lifters and/or plates, can result in the malfunctioning of the brake system
and disrupt the release.
If the original binding already has a plate, then dont add one.
To check whether a pre-mounted system is compatible, press down the ski on a
flat surface, release it and check whether the brake raises the ski and whether
it is working fully. The brake must also be at least 30 mm longer than the ski sole.
ROSSIGNOL is not responsible in the event of technical modification of its products (removal of the lifter, addition of non-conform lifters, replacement with
non-conform screws, etc.).
Always use original Rossignol-Look parts.

Use of Bootsizer
The Bootsizer is used for measuring the length of ski boot soles in mm. It determines a SPS/EPR/Demo/QS adjustment code
Rossignol : Axial2 120 Speedset 3 - Axium 120 Speedset 3 - Axium 100 EPR 4 - Axium 70 Jr EPR 4
Look : PX 12 Demo2 - NX 12 Demo2 - NX 10 Demo2 - Nova 7 Demo2
--> The number indicated gives the minimum position of the range in which the boot sole length is to be found
Use :
Place the boot on the apparatus with the front on the sliding part side
(Fig. 1).
Move this part to bear on the front of the boot sole.
Read the adjusting code through the window.
This adjustment system using codes does not mean you should not
check the pressure of the heelpiece (Page 23 & 24).
Adjusting procedure
30
Adjusting procedure
Make a quarter turn to release the heel-piece length adjustment
lever (Fig.1).
Adjust the white arrow located on the body of the heel-piece opposite
the colour code on the guide, which corresponds to the length of the
boot sole (Fig.2).
Close the lever completely to lock the heel-piece (Fig.5).
Make sure that the heel-piece is correctly notched by gently tapping
it to the front.
Make sure that the heel-piece is completely open (contact between
the heel support and the base) (Fig 6).
Check that the colour code on the toe-piece is the same as the
colour code of the heel-piece.
Lock the boot in the binding (Fig.7).
This adjustment system using codes does not mean you should not
check the pressure of the heel-piece (Fig.8). If necessary, read the
chapter on setting the length and thrust on pages 24.

Note:
The colour codes written on the pre-mounted system on the toe-piece
indicate the complete range of boot sole lengths. For the heel-piece, this
range is divided into several small ranges and only the minimum position
of each range is given.
Example: For a sole length of 314 mm:
--> place the toe-piece on the 302-314 mm range (yellow colour
code).
--> place the heel-piece on the 312 mm range (yellow colour code).
31
Adjusting procedure
Raise the locking lever on the rear of the heel-piece to adjust the white
arrow on the heel-piece body opposite the colour code located on the guide,
which corresponds to the length of the boot sole (Fig.1).
Make sure that the heel-piece is correctly notched by gently tapping it to the
front.
Check that the colour code on the toe-piece is the same as the colour code
of the heel-piece.
Lock the boot in the binding (Fig.2).
This adjustment system using codes does not mean you should not check the
pressure of the heel-piece (Fig.3). If necessary, read the chapter on setting
the length and thrust on pages 24.
3
OK
32
If this is not the case, open the heel and manually raise the metal
lever at the back of the heel to adjust the setting by moving the heel
forwards or backwards.
Lock the heel once or twice to check the pressure again.

Note
35
The adjustment of the release value is shown in the toe and heel windows
The given values by the adjustment chart are pre-setting values.
TABLE 1
Note :
The skier type does not have the same meaning as the skier level. For instance, a good skier who skis on every type of surface but is not particularly aggressive could use a Type 2 setting
Skiers 10 years of age and older of any type who desire a higher or lower setting than the stting of their skier type according, may designate
their preference with a + or - sign next to their skier type designation.
The use of these classifications in determining the release setting may be inappropriate for some types of competition skiing.
36
Using table 2, find the code for the skier. Locate the weight of the
skier in the first column and the size in the second. If these parameters are not on the same line, choose the skier code on the topmost
line.
This skier code is suitable for skiers Type 1.
For skiers Type 1-, go up one line.
For skiers Type 2, go down one line.
For skiers Type 3, go down two lines.
For skiers Type 3+, go down three lines.
Skier age: correct if necessary
After determining the skier code, find the column representing the
length of the boot sole (in mm) of the skier using table 2.
The intersection of the boot sole length column and the skier code line
gives the adjustment reference. Adjust the toe and heel accordingly.
Caution, if the intersection of the correct line and the correct column
is an empty box, move along the same line and use the first reference
you find.
Exceptions :
. Skier type 3 should never be used for skiers weighing less than 22 Kg.
. For skiers of 13 kg and under, no further correction is appropriate.
. For skiers of 17 kg and under, skier type 1 is appropriate.

TABLE 2
Note : skiers who have satisfactory experience with lower adjustment values may request them.
Example :
Average skier, all terrain, Type 2. Weight 70Kg, height 1,70 m, age 30, sole length 315 mm. Find the line corresponding to the skiers parameters
(skiers code K). According to the level at ski, move down one line (skiers code L). The soles length being 315mm, the release value is 6.
The inspection torques will be: between 50 and 67 Nm for twist, between 194 and 271 Nm for forward lean.
37
FINAL TEST
This inspection is obligatory whenever you mount retail bindings.
The inspection checks that all the procedures required have been applied correctly
and that the bindings will perform their safety binding mission to the full. (ISO 11088).
check
Boots
Check that:
Skis comply with ISO standard 8364.
The top of the ski is not delaminated.
The base is not damaged.
If the sole and the edges are prepared correctly
If the binding screws are adapted to the ski.
Avoid mounting a binding if there are
already drilling holes less than 10 mm from
the new ones:
- Bindings could tear out.
- Skis could break.
Check that:
Anti-friction and Teflon plates are undamaged. Replace if necessary. These components are essential for boot/binding unit
support and release functions. There must
never be dirt between the boot/binding unit
and the friction plate.
The release value scale reflects the skier's
personal needs (see adjustment table).
Release value indicators are present and
legible.
The rollers move freely
The brakes work correctly.
Screws are not damaged, loose or missing.
The bindings are compatible with the boots
(adult or junior).
All surfaces are clean.
If the binding is dirty, wipe with a dry or
slightly damp rag.
If the bindings are correctly lubricated and
not rusty.
Heel pieces move freely on their guides. If
not; lubricate with Rossignol-Look grease or
change it if necessary.
Never clean bindings with solvent or high
pressure running water.
Bindings
Complete system
Check that:
Boots comply with ISO standard 5355.
The boot sole has a correct shape that has
not been modified by wear.
The surfaces in contact with the bindings
and glide plates are flat and clean.
All sections are flat and clean.
Boots comply with standards for adults or
children.
Never use children's boots with adult bindings and vice versa.

Cleaning the boot-binding interface and the gliding plate with soap
and water.
Replacing of damaged or worn gliding plates.
- the space between the heel grip and the body (Fig.6).
- the toe gliding plate (Fig.7).
Reassemble.
Store the binding in a dry place.
We recommend that you do this twice during the season.
Note :
Never use hot water, pressurised water or solvents to clean the bindings. This is because using solvents can irremediably damage the surface and structure of some binding parts by modifying their
technical characteristics. This will increase the risk of breaks or weaknesses or in the deterioration of
markings.
