must meet in order to register in a course or program. A student may
challenge any prerequisite by completing the Prerequisite/Corequisite
Challenge Procedure Petition available in the Counseling Center. It is the
students responsibility to be certain that he/she has met the necessary
prerequisite(s) for any course taken. The student will be dropped from
any class where it is veried that the necessary prerequisite has not been
taken and passed. Prerequisites will be validated after nal semester
grades have been posted.
It should be understood by the student that whether or not a prerequisite
is specically stated, the instructional staff of Fresno City College assumes
that each student who enrolls in a transfer-level course possesses sufcient
competencies in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics to be able
to prot from instruction.
A corequisite indicates that the course must be taken simultaneously
with another course if not already completed. Advisory indicates that the
institution recommends, but does not require certain course work be taken
prior to enrolling in the described course.

Course Prerequisite/Corequisite Approval

Students planning to take an English course, a math course or a course
with a prerequisite or corequisite (see this class schedule for individual
course prerequisites/corequisites) must qualify for these courses. This can
be done by fullling one of the following requirements:

Take the English/Math Placement Test Prior to Registering

There is no charge for the English or Math Placement Test. The test takes
approximately three hours and is administered by the Assessment Center
at Fresno City College, LI-146. ( Call the FCC Assessment Center hotline for
test information ( (559) 442-8282

Furnish Other Evidence

Students who do not take the English/math placement tests at Fresno City
College may furnish other evidence that they have satised the prerequisites
by submitting documentation (e.g., ofcial grade report or transcript) which
provides verication of satisfactory completion of college-level prerequisites
courses. This evidence must be presented or available to a counselor at
the time you seek written approval for these courses prior to registration.
(See Prerequisites Challenge Procedures on this page).

Other Limitations on Enrollment

Enrollment in certain courses or educational programs of study may require
tryouts, auditions or may be limited by health and safety considerations,
facility limitations, faculty workload, the availability of qualied instructors,
funding limitations or legal requirements imposed by statutes, regulations or
contracts. All such limitations are in conformity with the provisions of Title
5, Section 58106, California Community College Board of Governors.

Prerequisite Challenge Procedures

Students may challenge a prerequisite or corequisite by completing the
Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Petition and have it approved. Students
may meet with a counselor to discuss the request for challenging the
prerequisite or corequisite after completing the petition. If the counselor
agrees that the challenge is warranted, the petition will be signed by both
parties, or the petition will be routed to the appropriate instructor.
Reasons for seeking a Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Petition may
include one or more of the following:
1. The prerequisite or corequisite has not been reasonably
available.
2. The prerequisite or corequisite was met at another
institution.
3. The student can provide evidence of having knowledge or
ability to succeed in the course despite not meeting the
prerequisite or corequisite.
4. A prerequisite, corequisite or limitation on enrollment is
discriminatory or applied in an unfairly discriminatory
manner.
5. The prerequisite or corequisite is not valid because it
is not necessary for success in the course for which it
is required.
If space is available in a course when the student les the challenge to the
prerequisite or the corequisite, a seat shall be reserved for the student
and the challenge will be resolved within ve working days. If no space
is available in the course when the challenge is led, the challenge shall
be resolved prior to the beginning of registration for the next term and, if
the challenge is upheld, the student shall be permitted to enroll if space is
available when the student registers for the subsequent term.

In compliance with the Student-Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act of

1991 (Public Law 101-542), it is the policy of the State Center Community
College District to make available its completion and transfer rates to all
current and prospective students. Beginning in Fall 1996, a cohort of all
certicate-, degree- and transfer-seeking, rst-time, full-time students were
tracked over a three-year period. Their completion and transfer rates are
listed below. These rates do not represent the success rates of the entire
student population at the State Center Community College District, nor do
they account for student outcomes after this three-year tracking period.
