Neighborhood Libraries
• A new controls system was installed at Lamond-Riggs along with new
suspended ceiling, duct insulation and roof repairs to eliminate the ceiling
leaks that were on-going. New water circulating pumps were installed for all
air handlers.
• A new chiller was installed at Woodridge along with chilled water pumps and
hot water pumps for the building.
• The Georgetown boiler was relocated and installed at Capitol View. This
boiler was newer and more efficient than the existing boiler.
• Several minor repairs were completed to the boiler at Southeast.
• New exhaust flues were installed for the hot water heaters at Palisades and
West End, there was new lighting installed in the boiler room too.
• Restroom doors (2) were replaced at Southwest to help meet ADA
requirements.
• New air handler was installed for the 2nd floor meeting room at Cleveland
Park.

• Fan coil units in the kitchen and workroom at Southeast were repaired by
connecting them into the house system for winter operation.
• All materials and supplies were removed from Petworth and Washington
Highlands and the buildings turned over to Capitol Projects.
• Parklands-Turner kiosk was cleared and turned over to the Department of
Real Estate Services.
• A new custodial contract was put in place at the new Northwest One.
Miscellaneous Items
• Facilities staff has met for the third time with the A/E contractor on the
Energy Stimulus Design packages. Visits to nine branches that will receive
funding for improvements in lighting, windows, doors and HAVC systems
have been completed. An additional meeting in January is planned to
review costs and statements of work.
• Facilities staff experienced very few problems dealing with the first heavy
snow of the season. All neighborhood libraries were cleared. All work was
done by in-house personnel.
• Facilities is working with the neighborhood library managers and staff to
handle surplus furniture from the closing and relocation of some of these
libraries. Usable furniture is being re-located at other libraries and unwanted
furniture is being surplused to other agencies and groups.
