IP@node Switch TSW10

The IP@node-TSW10 is a TETRA switching unit for

networks of different topologies, hierarchies and sizes.
The IP@node-TSW10 makes it possible to connect to
base stations, dispatchers, applications and external
networks (IP, PSTN, etc.) at different stages of expansion.
The basic variant of the IP@node-TSW10 supports up to 30
base stations. In IP mode, it is possible to connect up to 256
base stations to a single IP@node. By networking several
IP@node-TSW10, it is possible to set up nationwide networks.
The IP@node-TSW10 is small, light, has low power
consumption and is therefore conveniently relocatable.
Each switch on a network is linked to a specific database. To ensure maximum security, the switch can be
made fully redundant through the use of a completely identical unit; The IP@node-TSW10 is available as a
220 Vac network version and a 48 Vdc version.
OPERATION
The IP@node-TSW10 performs all the tasks
included in level 3 (SwMI, MLE, MM, CMCE, SDS,
SS) and above (Application Layer) of the TETRA
standard, as well as communication and mobility
management (monitoring via the administrative
console and access to external applications
through IP dispatching)

EXCHANGES WITH DISPATCHING CONSOLE

LINKS

Exchanges with the dispatching center are

carried out over the local network using:
- Signaling:
o 1 UDP channel for the circulation
of network communications and
the transmission of SDS/Status
data
o 1 TCP/IP channel
- Voice
o The link is made via a UDP
channel

Dispatcher and Application Server Station:

- 10/100 Base-T
Base Station:
- IP, V11, G703
Telephone Network:
- ISDN-PRI and ISDN-BRI
Other Switches:
- Through Inter-system Interface
Gateways

(ISI)

EXCHANGES WITH THE BASE STATIONS

Exchanges between the switch and the base
stations are conducted either on an IP channel, or
on a structural link (G703 or V11). In IP mode, the
base stations attempt to connect to one of the
switches in a particular order of preference. As
soon as a connection has been established
between a switch and a base station [virtual
connection on IP or actual connection via
structural link], the switch downloads that base
stations configuration.

Monitoring allows the network to be

supervised on a constant basis, by regularly
sending the administration console any
synthetic information that describes the
status of all network equipment (links, base
stations, dispatching centers, etc.)

Redundancy

The switch can be made redundant with automatic switching, an option that offers particularly high
performance in the event of software or hardware failures. In this case, both switches constantly receive
the same information from all the other components of the network. Only one of the two is active at any
one time for data transmission.
Switching
Overriding in manual mode:
The front panel of the switch unit includes a three-position control knob that makes it possible to force
operation on either one of the switches, or to automatic mode. The active switch is also indicated on the
administration console.
Automatic mode:
In automatic mode, the switchover from the active switch to the other switch is made
- By issuing a switchover request via the administration console
- Upon detection of a failure on the active switch

Redundancy (IP Links to Base Stations)

Several identical switches can be connected to a single IP network that links the base stations
together. Normally, only one of the switches on the network is active, with the others being placed in
standby mode. If the active switch fails, the base stations automatically switch over to one of the backup switches.
Thus, if the IP network is split into several parts (e.g., if a crucial link is lost within the network), the
TETRA network automatically divides up into several sub-networks, each managed by a switch
located on its own sub-network
