Jam Jar Science

WE START ON THE APPS TITLE SCREEN, THE WORDS 'TOUCH TO


START' ARE FLASHING AT THE BOTTOM. THE USER TOUCHES THE
SCREEN.
EXT. JAM JAR REPOSITORY
THE JAM JARS ARE ALL LINED UP IN WHITE SPACE, THE USER CAN
SCROLL UP OR DOWN TO REVEAL MORE. THE USER SCROLLS DOWN AND
WE WAIT AS THEY MAKE THEIR DESCISION.
THE USER PICKS THE INFLUENZA JAR. THE JAR IS PICKED UP BY A
MACHINE AND TRANSPORTED TO ANOTHER AREA.
AS THE JAR SETTLES TEXT APPEARS SAYING 'You have chosen the
Influenza Jar. Tap the screen to continue'
The user taps the screen. The camera goes to the top of the
jar and we unscrew the lid and go inside the Jar.
VOICEOVER
Influenza (or as it's more commonly
known) is a serious virus that can
make people very ill.
The influenza sneezes.
VOICEOVER
Flu is transmitted through the air
and in bodily fluids.
We come back out of the Jar and turn to see the body cell
jar.
VOICEOVER
It affects the body cells that are
in our respiratory system.
We zoom out to see both Jam Jars. Two symbols appear at the
bottom of the screen, one representing a forward button and
and another representing a repeat button.
VOICEOVER
Press the buttons to move forward
or repeat this section.
Jam Jars pop away and the influenza and body cells are
revealed. The influenza moves towards the body cells.
VOICEOVER
When the influenza virus enters the
body it will the body cells in the
nasal passages and bind itself to
them. It does this using the
(MORE)

receptors that it has. Tap the
screen to see the influenza cell
come in contact with the the body
cell.
The user taps the screen.We see the influenza come in
contact with the body cell.
VOICEOVER
It enters the cell as something
called a coated vesicle and then
uncoats itself to become an
endosome. This endosome can then
reprogramme the nucleus of the cell
to give the cell new information.
The cell starts to change into the influenza cell.
VOICEOVER
The nucleus makes lots of copies of
the influenza virus which are then
released into the body to infect
more cells.
Two symbols appear on the screen, the same as before.
VOICEOVER
Press the buttons to to move
forward or repeat this section.
The Flu is put back into the Jar.
VOICEOVER
Flu can be prevented. By washing
your hands with soap it can get rid
of any of the virus that might be
on your hands. There is also a shot
you can get if you are at risk of
getting flu. This shot will inject
a dead influenza virus into your
system and your body will fight
against it safely.
The flu is put back into the white space.
