GLOW WIRE TESTING

Burning behavior of compounded thermoplastics is not just a material characteristic. It's also
dependent on the shape and wall thickness of the application. In Europe, flammability is tested
using Glow Wire Tests according to IEC 695-2-1 and/or the Needle Flame test according to IEC
695-2-2.
Components or parts may, under faulty conditions or overload conditions, attain a temperature
such that they are unduly affected or such that they will ignite parts in the nearby area. The Glow
Wire Test simulates thermal stresses which may be produced by such sources of heat or ignition,
for example the glowing elements of overloaded resistors, in order to assess by simulation
technique the fire hazard.
Test procedure
Sample: Thinnest wall thickness of the completed application.
Pre-treatment: 24 hours at 23 degrees C at 50% RH.
Temperatures of glow wire: 550, 650, 750 850 or 960 degrees C

depending on the relevant specification).

Force: 1 Newton.
Contact time: 30 seconds.

Requirements

The specimen is considering to have withstood the Glow Wire Test if one of the following
applies:
There is no flame and no glowing on the sample.
Flames or glowing of the sample extinguish within 30 seconds after removal of the glow
wire, and if the cotton or the paper underlay doesn't ignite or burn.

Performance criteria
The criteria for failure under integrity and insulation for partitions as specified in the standard are given
below. In the absence of a specific test for sealing system, the same criteria were used except where stated.
Integrity is defined in terms of failure by sustained flaming cotton pad and gap gauges as follows:
Sustained flaming

when sustained flaming for not less than 10s on the unexposed face occurs

Cotton pad

when cracks, gap or fissures allow flames or hot gases to cause flaming or glowing of
a cotton fiber pad.

Gap gauges

when a 25 mm-diameter gap gauge can penetrate through a gap into the furnace; or
when a 6mm-diameter gap gauge can penetrate through a gap into the furnace and
be moved in the gap for a distance of at 150mm.

Insulation: Failure is deemed to occur;

a) When the mean unexposed face temperature increases by more than 140 deg C
above initial value;
b) When the temperature recorded at any position on the unexposed face is in excess
of 180 deg C above the initial mean unexposed face temperature;
c) When integrity failure occurs.
*The mean temperature rise was not considered applicable to a test of this nature.

Test Standard: IEC 60439-2 3rd Edition

Test Clauses: 8.2.2 & 8.2.2
Test Title: Verification of temperature-rise limit & verification of electrical properties for plug in unit
Test material: Usual IEC standard required one tap off to be tested but in actual condition its should run
with at least 3 nos of tap off unit.

Performance criteria
The object under test successively consists of a flange, a joint a first straight length, another joint and a
second straight length. The tap-off units IBD types 3P/100A, 3P/200A and 3P/400A are all connected to the
tap-off points of the second straight length. The configuration is detailed in the drawing. The total length of
the bus bar trunking system is 6.75 m and placed horizontally (edge wise) on supports approx. 1 m above
the floor.
The 50Hz three phase current source was per phase connected by four black painted copper bars of 100 X 5
mm 2 cross sectional area, length 3 meters to the incoming terminals of the flange and loaded with 2500A.
The starpoint was mounted directly to the end of the second straight length of bus bar. The tap-off units
3P/100A, 3P/200A, and 3P/400A are connected with 35, 95, and 240 mm2 cables of 3 meters length and
loaded with respectively 100A, 185A and 390A.
The temperature-rise were measured by means of thermocouples, including the ambient temperature. The
location of the thermocouples is indicated in the test report. The current in each phase is kept constant until
thermal equilibrium is reached. The recorded temperature-rise values shown in the report.

The Overlapping Systemandards

ur UNIQUE Overlapping Joint system which gives almost 100% joint overlap thus reduce heating
in the joint.

Translite MF Bus Duct patented Overlapping joint system offers incredible

stability, durability and ease of operation. Multiple conductors, insulators and duct joiners are
tightened with a MF Nut which serves as an electrical and mechanical joint. The other important
components incorporated in our joint system are the Belleville Washer, High Tension Bolts, Fitting Stopper
and Captive Hardware. The Belleville Washer disperses the pressure on overlapping conductors and absorbs
thermal expansion and contraction. The High Tension Bolts with heat proof insulation are pre-fit into the
joint covers, which prevent any removal and alignment of bolts during jointing. The Fitting Stoppers are
provided at the duct joiner for regulating the conductor overlapping during jointing. Last but not least, the
captive hardware stops the turning of the joint bolts for ease of tightening.
The MF in our bus duct stands for Maintenance Free which comes from 3 main parts not likewise the
other brand considered the BOLT & NUT that gives the maintenance free. Below its show the maintenance
free in our bus duct comes because of the 3 parts which;

Contact surface
treatment

Description

Copper conductor contact surface require

special treatment for stable and longlasting operation. Normal silver or tin
coating copper contact surface, which is
the most common solution, will cause
peeling or blister during long hours of
contact. Hence, these plated surfaces are
structurally weak and most vulnerable to
friction. Translite MF Bus Duct evolves a
new solution by applying Special Alloy
coating with excellent adhesion bondage
properties to contact surfaces. The Alloy
treatment coated surface can withstand
long hours of cyclical thermal heating
process without any peelings.

Maintenance Free
Nut

Description

Translite MF Bus Duct tightens all

joints with the maintenace free (MF)
nuts. The MF nut has a continuous
inner thread and a torque limited neck.
Thus, a little torque remains when the
neck
is
broken,
which
locks
automatically and will never loosen.
The torque limited neck will break at a
torque of 1200 kgf/cm.

Remark

Before broken

The tightening of the nut can be

confirmed visually by observing the slip
indication line carved on the nut
surface.

Vertical Components
Translite MF Bus Duct is the only bus duct use a single piece copper for the vertical components. Rather
than others do a welding to joint 2 pcs copper bars together. Please refer below

The Overlapping System

Our overlapping
joint works as a
male and female
joint, where you just
need to push right
up to the stopper.

Make the bus duct inline and just

need to push through until it
reaches the stopper. A consistent
joint surface area is always
achieved with the use of the
stopper in the simple joint system,
which provides an automatic guard
guidance to ensure the installer
does not push too far in or out

By using the special socket

just tight as normal till the
MF nut will break

Make sure the inner

portion is clean from any
foreign materials and Use
the joint cover to closed
and tighten with bolts and
nut given.

Insulation Properties

ith its inherent properties of strong dielectric strength and wide temperature range (-70 to +
150 C), polyester film was the perfect choice for insulating our bus duct. We apply 4 layers with
125 micron layers each, in total 500 micron which can withstood 155KV of dielectric strength.
The 4 overlapping layers resulting the airtight seal that is sufficient to guard against any moisture. It has
mechanical properties for elongation of 130% to cater for copper temperature rise expansion which is
maximum 24%. Normal application can be use up to 150o Celsius class F insulation & melting point at 263o
Celsius.

Polyester insulation, besides being functionally effective, is more reliable than Epoxy insulation given many
technical advantages such as those mentioned above.
Other properties of Polyester such as its high dielectric and tensile strengths, resistance to chemicals, low
moisture absorption, etc, also make it a good choice of insulation material to be used in bus duct system.

Removal Of intermediate bus duct

emoval of intermediate bus duct is always been question by our competitors, actually they were
wrong to prove this we have done the mock-up sample in our manufacturing plant to do the demo
and tell our valuable customer that they were giving wrong information about our product, below is
the step show how easy is the removal of the intermediate bus duct.
