Read the article carefully

Michael Fred Phelps II was born on June 30 of 1985, in Baltimore, Maryland,

USA. He is the youngest of three children. When their parents divorced,
Michael and his two sisters went to live with their mother in Towson, Maryland.
He started swimming when his sisters joined a local swim team in 1992. By
1999, Phelps had made the U.S. National B Team. At the age of 15, Phelps
became the youngest American male swimmer at an Olympic Games in 68 years. Still, he didnt win a
medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He set the world record in the 200-meter butterfly at the
age of 15. From that moment on, he broke his own record and also set the world record in other styles.
He is now a famous retired swimmer and the most decorated Olympian of all times, with a total of 22
medals. Phelps also holds the all-time record for Olympic gold medals, this means he won more
swimming medals than anyone else in the world. In the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Phelps
won four gold medals and two silver medals; this made him the most successful athlete of the Games
for the third Olympics in a row.
In 2012 he announced his retirement and started a foundation, a program offering swimming lessons
to children with special needs.
