About the Lost Paradise film series
As part of the Pine Hills Film Colony exploration of the silent and early talking picture period,
it has prepared a program which unfurls the very essence of the whimsy, sophistication,
poignancy and humor of the 1920s.
The unfortunate revisionist view of that decade in films such as the recent 'Great Gatsby'
leaves today's audiences with a skewed notion of that era. By choosing the four movies in
this series with authenticity foremost in mind, the genuine pungent atmosphere of the period
becomes almost tangible. It is hoped that audiences will, at times, become lost in that
paradise wherein they burned their candle at both ends but did it with fun, honesty and a
devotion to Romance.
Oh boy, if only in OUR own age we could reach up to the sky and pull down some of those
lovely whipped-cream clouds. But maybe we can. Let these films envelop you like the aroma
of Chanel Number 5, hair slick-um and gin. Allow your hearts to beat in the rhythm of the
unforgettable tunes and your spirits to be lifted to the top of the Chrysler building by these
wonderful depictions of a great generation. Alas, we will never see their like again, but we
hope you will feel a delightful connection to the stars, the stories and the world in which they
laughed, loved and lived.
