NOTE-BOOK
2614 was given a patient ride on ground softer than ideal but couldn't be coaxed into a bigger effort between the last two hurdles. His best form has come racing left-handed.
1932 , bidding for a hat-trick off a 9lb higher mark, and trying this trip for just the second time, made his ground smoothly running down the hill but could not match the winner once in line for home. He did not stop trying though
and is clearly progressing.
1741 , raised 8lb for his Newton Abbot win over 2f further in late August, was ridden with plenty of confidence, got produced after the last and quickened up nicely. This success came off a career-high mark, and he could head
to Newton Abbot on Friday if the rain stays away.
1398 sat one from last for much of the trip before being delivered with a smooth run that took him to the front. He'd been freshened up by a break since May and is a pretty useful sort when things fall his way. A strong traveller,
he probably doesn't want to be ahead too soon.
318 wasted no time putting a poor run at Sandown behind him, but hes not entirely straightforward and didnt find a great deal in front after quickening from last to first in the straight. Hell continue to hold his own but will
probably need things to drop right to get his head in front again.
5574 wasn't suited to the way the race was run.
5128 , up 3f in trip, was making progress when tightened up heading to three out. He would have been a bit closer otherwise.
5030 , up 7lb for his recent Fontwell win, was brought with a well-timed challenge and, although unable to get past the determined winner, this was another step forward.
4801 , having failed to get home over 3m at Doncaster in December, made the most of this drop to a more realistic trip and comfortably gained his second hurdles success and his first in handicap company. He travelled
strongly, but he was untidy at a couple of hurdles, including the last two flights. If he gets his jumping together, he can build on this.
4299 raced wide for much of the race and may have won had his rider been able to tuck him away and produce his challenge a bit later. He remains capable of better on a sound surface over hurdles.
QUOTES
1741 He appreciates good ground. With the rain coming he may well go to Newton Abbot on Friday (new 20,000 handicap hurdle) as he will have a break when the ground goes against him. - Harry Fry, trainer.
1398 We've had this race in mind since his run at Aintree in May. That was a great ride from Noel (Fehily) because he needs holding up. There's another valuable race back here in October. Harry Fry, trainer

NOTE-BOOK
4001 , up 9lb for his Aintree win, looked sure to be suited by the step up to this trip and saw it out well. He should have a chance in the Final of this series, for which he is 12-1, but will almost certainly be towards the head of the
weights.
2933 looked booked for fifth after the final hurdle but found extra. One would imagine that he'll be aimed towards one of the big handicaps at Cheltenham next March.
2660 ran an eyecatching race, looking well beaten at one point but rattling home when it was all too late. Well worth another try at this trip, he could even need further still. He's a character, and some headgear (wore cheekpieces
once before) may help him concentrate.
2190 made it a one-two for Henderson with a thoroughly likeable display, battling away tenaciously and at least trying to make something of a race of it with the winner. He certainly shapes like a horse who will be suited by 2m4f
and has more to offer.
1845 , down in class without any aids on his comeback, was fancied to go close and Barry Geraghty kept him wide early to find the best ground. He was way too far out of his ground to get near the winner having allowed that
rival to go clear, but ultimately shaped as though the run would do him good and is probably on a fair mark.
5090 , the beaten Fred Winter favourite, wasn't as slick at his flights as he might have been. He had his tongue tied for the first time but the cheekpieces were discarded. The Stewards considered his running and noted the trainer
could offer no explanation for the gelding's performance. The Stewards ordered the Veterinary Officer to examine Dawalan, who was found to have lost a near hind shoe.
4755 , well backed and now tried in cheekpieces, was a big disappointment considering he was in trouble going to the second-last. He didn't appear to have any obvious excuses.
4023 should have won this. He sat too far back off the stop-start gallop and, despite showing some wayward tendencies under hard pressure, there is little doubt he would have come out on top had he raced more prominently.
His smart engine was displayed as he ate up ground in the home straight, but interestingly he hit a flat spot until joined by the third. He did run around over hurdles at Newbury last time, so perhaps some headgear will be
deployed at the festival.
3714 was strong at the finish when off the mark over C&D last month and created a decent impression, for which the handicapper rated him 131. He had to do the donkey work in this smaller field, but went about his task
professionally, despite taking a hold, and jumped well. He looked in complete control prior to making his first semblance of an error two out and allowed his nearest pursuers a chance by running around from there on. Barry
Geraghty only gave him one smack, though, and this was the first time he had been in front for so long, so it was likely a case of idling. The regally bred winner should peak over further in due course and is a likeable sort,
who obviously handles plenty of cut. The Fred Winter at Cheltenham is on his agenda, where he will get a lead again, and he was promoted to the top of the ante-post market for that around 8-1.
3161 , a maiden on the Flat in France, still achieved an RPR of 89. Fourth over the C&D in a better race than this on his hurdling debut, he took this going right away, providing Nicky Henderson with a fifth win in the race since
2003. He already jumps soundly and will no doubt be aimed at the Fred Winter.
QUOTES
4001 We did have Dawalan in the Betfair Hurdle but he goes through bad patches in his races and I thought he might be suited to three miles. He's qualified for the Pertemps Final now and that's probably where he'll run next Nicky Henderson, trainer.
2933 Daryl tried to hold him up right to the last minute. I think he's been unlucky, he's been beaten favourite four or five times, but the ground here today was good and it's a well overdue win for him.-Simon Munir, owner.
3161 We will see what the handicapper says. He has always struck me as a Fred Winter horse. - Nicky Henderson, trainer.

NOTE-BOOK
4109 has put in a string of solid performances and this was another, although he did take quite a tug. He's safely qualified for the Pertemps Final now and looks sure to give a good account of himself there.
3057 once again found one too good but lost little in defeat. A stronger all round gallop would have suited him better as he's a thorough stayer, and he should get that in the Pertemps Final, although he'll have to get himself
qualified for that race first.
2662 ran a big race just a week after a solid effort in a handicap at Cheltenham's Open meeting, sticking on to reduce the winner's advantage near the line. However he was 5lb well in so will find things tougher next time.
2493 bravely landed the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last month and was attractively handicapped back over hurdles. He was gambled on near the off and also cruised through the race. Conceding weight to the unexposed winner
proved just beyond him, but he still ran a big race as better ground suits ideally. Surely getting him qualified for the Pertemps Final at the Festival in March is the way forward now.
7107 , whose connections landed this with Detroit City in 2006, went one better than his somewhat unlucky second in the trial over C&D last month - off the same mark - and finally got the big pay day on the level he had
promised. Balloted out of Royal Ascot when well fancied, he was always likely to relish this more truly run race over the trip, being a 3m winner over hurdles, and his trainer's decision to deploy cheekpieces worked a treat
as he was able to hold his position at a crucial stage on the inside. Indeed, his draw was a massive advantage, remembering he raced from the widest stall last year, but he did have to angle out inside the final furlong and
needed to be brave. His proven stamina won the day and his best hurdles form had come on a similarly sound surface. A return to hurdling now beckons and this fully confirms Philip Hobbs's opinion that the horse is
improving as a 7yo. His rating of 135 in that sphere is appealing, and the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival looks the race to target. He last won over jumps there in 2013.
6557 , a useful hurdler, showed he can still cut it in good company on the Flat. Formerly a 1m4f performer on the continent, he finished only 21st in last year's Cesarewitch but stays this trip well and is much better than he
looked that day.
198 ran just respectably.
5138 , having his first start since finishing down the field in the Cesarewitch in October, had not run over hurdles for nearly a year. He ran a sound race which should set him up for a spring campaign that might involve switching
between the Flat and jumps.

NOTE-BOOK
4223 had 19lb to find with the favourite at the weights, but he was 2-2 at the course coming into the race, having been most progressive in handicaps this season, and made every yard for a new career best. He displayed a
thoroughly likeable attitude and if he's to run at the festival it will be in the Pertemps Final.
3615 was bidding for a hat-trick from a mark 11lb higher than when initially winning this term and again set off in front. He couldn't live with the winner and is flattered by his proximity, but this was another career-best in defeat.
3190 defied a 5lb rise for his CD win last month with another fine front-running effort. He's a nimble hurdler and has good prospects of progressing further.
2645 hadn't been at his best on his previous two starts, but appreciated the return to this trip and showed a fine attitude to notch his second win. He isn't fully exposed and can win again on this evidence.
4442 was well backed on the strength of a 3m victory at Kempton last time. Dropped in trip, he was one of the first off the bridle before turning for home and never got going in ground he appeared to detest. He had an improving
profile before this and now has a question or two to answer.
3643 wound things up from the third-last, staying on well from there to get off the mark. He jumped better than he had at Ffos Las and is going the right way, but there was just a hint that he is not a straightforward ride.
2649 , found out by the lack of a recent run when runner-up on his hurdles debut at Chepstow, was kept wide for much of the race, but his jumping was often slow and he finished tired, having briefly threatened to get involved at
the top of the straight. Hes better than this.
2076 , absent since a promising effort in a bumper back in March, was the only one to go with Kaki De La Pree in the final stages and will surely take a similar contest before long.
4621 is a brother to the yard's useful hurdler/chaser Highland Lodge. He got shuffled back to a poor position at the top of the straight but finished strongly as the penny dropped late on.
QUOTES
4223 Closing Ceremony is not entered in any fancy races at Cheltenham but he's qualified for the Pertemps Final and he'll be entered. We were worried about the better ground but he's very accurate and jumping is what wins it
for him. - trainer, Emma Lavelle.
3190 Emma Lavelle, trainer of Closing Ceremony: He stays well and he's a very quick jumper. He'll be interesting when he goes over fences next season.
2645 Jockey Daryl Jacob: Closing Ceremony was very game and tried really hard. It was good to get back on him and win a valuable prize with him.
3643 He's green still and Richard (Johnson) said the second time he jinked it was at birds flying up from the lake. He's a lovely individual and it's just taken him a bit of time. He definitely needs cut, but at Ffos Las last time it was
bottomless and he literally couldn't find the bottom of the ground. You can forgive him that. Emma Lavelle, trainer

NOTE-BOOK
3072 made it 3-6 over hurdles when taking a handicap at Kempton off 134 last month. Faced with a stiff task, he didn't go unbacked and also posted a game effort, rallying after looking as though he may fade when headed. This
was another career-best and he's worth a try over further.
2251 , who ended his 2013/14 campaign with a taking success in a competitive handicap at Cheltenham, ran out a decent winner off this 7lb higher mark. He was allowed to dictate his own fractions up front but showed a willing
attitude when pressed up the straight to hold on well after the last. He should get further in time and looks a progressive type.
5349 relished the quicker surface and produced a career-best effort on just his second outing in a handicap. The form of his previous Sandown fourth has worked out strongly to date and he's evidently progressive. Now he's
proven his liking for this venue a crack at the Coral Cup would make sense next season.
4680 came back on the bridle before the straight, but he couldn't see it out as well as those around him. He can do better on a drier surface.
3716 had more on his plate under a penalty for his C&D win at the previous meeting here last month, but set the standard and came in for strong support. He wasn't able to get to the front, which may not have been so much to
his liking, but he probably was beaten by two superior rivals.
3166 , runner-up on his first two tries in bumper company, had finished a promising fifth on his hurdling bow at Ascot. In the firing line throughout, despite jumping left-handed at the last he proved too strong for the runner-up in
the closing stages. He should improve again.
5483 , runner-up at Huntingdon on his debut, ran well again without quite promising to collect. Held up early, he made progress from halfway and was battling on bravely in the closing stages. He can find a winning opportunity in
this sphere.
4542 could not match the winner's turn of foot. He will improve for the experience and should be winning races.
QUOTES
2251 That wasn't a bad performance as we weren't sure about the ground and also he likes going left-handed. I don't know where we will go now. Hughie Morrison, trainer
3166 Brother Brian settles better in front and the fact someone took him meant in the end it was a test of stamina. He is meant for chasing and I think we will do that next season. - Lewis Garfield, owner.

NOTE-BOOK
4109 showed a lot more than he had in two races before Christmas, securing his berth in the series final, in which he was a close third last year. Beyond that, he should acquit himself well at Aintree, but history is against a
repeat win.
3098 , 7lb higher mark than when runner-up in this contest 12 months earlier, was disappointing, but you have to go back to January 2013 for the last time he'd encountered genuinely heavy ground, and a year further back for
his last decent effort on it.
2493 , the Grand National winner, ran well below the level he posted in this event last term. However, it's a long road back to Aintree for the veteran and he did show more than his finishing position indicates.
5171 had been campaigned more over hurdles than fences this season, but had fallen in the Becher Chase before Christmas prior to winning a decent Exeter veterans' chase that got him into this contest. Having really finished
well on his first try over 3m4f when trained in Ireland, the question was whether he would jump, and despite more than one mistake he was going well from some way out, came through to lead going to the second-last,
and never looked like stopping. This was a fine success for a trainer having his first runner in the race.
4765 was arguably a bit unlucky, coming from much further back than the front pair and doing himself few favours with an untidy jump at the last, finishing strongly between runners and being in front soon after the line. He's
being aimed at the Grand National.
3698 , a very easy winner, was well suited by the decent gallop and travelled nicely throughout. Back over fences after a couple of runs over hurdles, he was very well handicapped on his old form in Ireland. The Pertemps Final
and the Grand National are possibilities.
3207 has posted mostly consistent hurdle and chase efforts since arrival from Ireland in the spring, and hadn't played all his cards this time when an error three out proved a stopping one. He can prove better than this, although
a first British success remains elusive after eight attempts.
3108 probably had no chance of defeating the Tom Symonds gelding on these terms. He is, however, a really solid marker to the level achieved by the winner.
2504 , back over hurdles, is another who was kept wide for much of the race. He was keeping on well at the finish and is on a competitive mark.
QUOTES
3098 That was disappointing. He seemed all right for a long way but he stopped quite quickly. I don't think he liked the ground but he was fine after the race. - Richard Newland, trainer.
5171 Two out or three out we were getting excited. I was jumping up and down with my daughter. Leighton [Aspell, jockey] had a plan and delivered it superbly well. When something like this happens you think perhaps I should
stop now because it just can't get better than this. He's a classy, classy horse, I've always thought that. He has the combination of stamina and a touch of speed and it was just a wonderful performance even though he
made a few errors.-Dr Richard Newland, trainer.
4765 He ran an absolute blinder and was arguably a little unlucky as if he hadn't missed the last he might have been closer. As long as he comes out all right he will go for the National with a chance. Richard Newland, trainer
3698 We wanted to get him up the weights a bit so he could get into the Grand National and that might be enough. He is also in the Pertemps Hurdle final at Cheltenham and might go there. Richard Newland, trainer

probably ran close to the level of his previous efforts this season.
, 5lb higher and up in distance, ran another fine race, only to be denied once again in the final stages. He deserves to win again, and he's one to look forward to over fences in time.
found one too good but beat the rest handily and looks the type to make up into an even better chaser in due course.
created a good impression when winning at Wincanton the time before (well ahead of Boondooma), but he failed to reproduce the form on this switch to handicaps, not picking up for pressure.
, in a first-time tongue-tie, defied the penalty he picked up after last month's Exeter win over a furlong shorter with an improved display, pulling clear on the run-in having jumped to the front at the last. He's open to further
progress and there should be more to come, possibly when stepping up in trip.
Page 3
formcheltenham

3695 scored in taking style, making smooth progress to join issue and winning more easily than the eventual margin. He was clearly unaffected by a nasty fall on his hurdling debut and looks sure to win more races.
2631 was under pressure and looked on the retreat when falling at the second-last.
270 is from the family of National Hunt Chase winner Hazy Dawn and shaped like a stayer for the future. After sitting prominently throughout he knuckled down to his task well when Reverb came to challenge and eventually got
the better of that battle.
QUOTES
3695 We decided to ride him a bit more patiently than we did at Wincanton where he fell when beaten. He has left that run behind so hopefully there is more progression to come. David Pipe, trainer

NOTE-BOOK
4224 continues to look anything but a natural over fences, but to his credit he kept plugging away when others had given up.
2662 , the 2012 winner, was in trouble once hampered at the last down the back.
2175 , last seen going close in the Scottish National in April, was resuming over a trip shorter than he cares for yet still disappointed. He stopped pretty quickly after a mistake at the last on the far side and, while it's a long season
ahead, his mark over fences isn't so attractive as it was last term.
5276 , following Pineau De Re's Aintree win, gave the Pertemps Final form another boost, running a bold race on this return to fences. Recovering from a first-fence mistake, he stayed the marathon trip well.
4765 , still 2lb above his last win mark, turned in his best effort in a while, holding every chance and keeping on well.
3776 didn't opt to exploit his handicap mark on this first run as a chaser since 2012, considering he's rated 8lb higher over hurdles. He took time to warm to his task and tended to hang in the home straight, yet he shaped as
though he can find an opening in this sphere back over a stiffer test.
3108 wasn't completely disgraced under top weight. He's slowly edging back down to a fair mark.

NOTE-BOOK
2807 was beaten off by the big three from the turn in but didn't run badly given the rise in class and the ground being softer than ideal.
2080 shaped really nicely on his return to action recently following a 350-day absence and took this with plenty to spare even after hitting the final flight. This didn't seem a proper test and his speed was an asset in the home
straight.
1846 was returning from the best part of a year on the sidelines and, while completely outclassed, it's fair to assume he needed it. He's not badly treated.
1766 , who took a heavy fall over fences on his final outing last season, was not fluent at times but hopefully this comeback will have helped restore his confidence.
5409 has been holding his own in decent handicap company over hurdles but is not as good over fences. After disputing the early pace he opened up a lead on the final circuit but was coming to the end of his tether when
getting the last all wrong.
5162 never seriously threatened, but wasn't disgraced off a stiff mark back hurdling and helps to set the level.
4387 didn't jump well enough.
QUOTES
2080 He can be a bit gassy and Barry [Geraghty] gave him a fine ride as he got him nicely settled. We'll keep him over hurdles for the time being and see how far he can go. - Rebecca Curtis, trainer.

NOTE-BOOK
3983 , up 11lb for his Pertemps Qualifier win at Warwick under this jockey, was given a really nicely judged ride, this time hitting the front well after the last. Something has really clicked for the gelding in his last few starts after
bits of early promise, and there seems little reason why he shouldn't head to the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham festival where, should the stable choose to, Patrick Cowley's claim could prove invaluable. Two
bookmakers cut him to 12-1 for that race.
Page 4
formcheltenham
12.03.15
3615 , who had fallen in the weights, ran out a convincing winner. He got booted for home leaving the back straight yet idled badly coming to the last. Once his young rider got him to the stands' rail on the run-in he picked up
again, though, and under more patient handling it would have been more comfortable. His resurgent trainer sent out Holywell to finish second in 2012 back before taking the final that year and this 6yo will warrant respect at
the Festival in March as he does act well on better ground.
1009 , 23lb higher than when landing a 3m (soft) event here in February with no further wins in the interim, travelled as if resenting the first-time blinkers.
787 , his leading owner's apparent first string, was delivered with every chance wide of runners back down in trip. He didn't help McCoy at all when the chips were down as he hung and obviously sports headgear for good
reason. It wouldn't surprise to see him chasing soon.
198 , in reapplied cheekpieces, could never get into it.
5333 , 13lb higher than when winning at Market Rasen two starts back (race came too soon on heavy ground when pulled up latest), seemed much happier on this good ground but threw victory away. This lightly-raced 5yo's
best days are still ahead of him and fences should be the making of him in time.
QUOTES
3615 That's my first winner. I could hear the others coming at the last flight, but Join The Clan picked up again for me. It's a dream to ride my first winner in Mr McManus's colours and on Channel 4 - Patrick Cowley, rider.

NOTE-BOOK
1398 lost his position and fell back to last place, but staged quite a rally. This trip is on the sharp side for him.
661 looked held off a mark still 13lb above his highest winning one. His trainer Jeremy Scott reported that the gelding was unsuited by the good going.
5138 , who had a rewarding summer on a sound surface and made an encouraging return from a break in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham, was held up but never got into contention. Neither track nor ground should have been
a problem.
4765 , returning from a break, came from the rear of the field and finished to really good effect. With a better run, he'd possibly have been involved in the tussle for first.
1956 , back hurdling, kept on dourly up the home straight after appearing to hit a little flat spot and this was a promising return from his 76-day break. He's evidently still on a workable mark.
1195 is a model of consistency, with two wins already this summer, so although he has climbed 47lb in the ratings since beginning his winning spree last year there was every chance he could continue to improve, but he met
some trouble in running and got going a bit too late.
943 was looking for his eighth win in ten starts and only just failed to give 17lb to the winner. Confidently ridden, he had plenty of ground to make up from four out, but ran on strongly and was only just touched off. The extra
7lb looked just enough to anchor him and while he had a relatively hard race, if he maintains his current level of form there is no reason why he cannot soon gain a third chase win.

NOTE-BOOK
4109 arrived with a bit to prove, but the rise in trip and better ground than he's been running on combined to produce a return to form. The series final is an obvious target, should he get in, with the Martin Pipe Hurdle an
alternative.
2523 found nothing when his rider pressed the button and has become disappointing.
2057 , in a first-time tongue-tie, took a strong hold in rear early and never got to the leaders.
98a lost ground wide throughout but could not pick up for pressure, the 2m4f not bringing about the improvement envisaged.
4682 , runner-up in last season's Champion Bumper, was beaten at odds of 1-4 at Hexham when last seen (stable been out of sorts for the past couple of months) but with his conqueror that day now rated 155, the defeat didn't
look so bad afterall. He had his chance, just lacking the acceleration of the front pair having looked the likely winner two out, and it's likely he can better this form once his stable hits form again, and perhaps just as
importantly, he's faced with a longer trip (dam a 3m winner).
3017 was obviously expected to take this contest. Everything looked to be going well for much of the race, but the winner didn't stop in front and Tony McCoy's mount wasn't able to catch him after being held up. With some
handy experience now behind him, he's surely going to be sent into handicaps soon off what is potentially a handy mark considering his Cheltenham Champion Bumper form. Anthony Honeyball said afterwards that "you
can forget that run, it's the way our horses are running at the moment. There will be another day for him."
2564 had found a golden opportunity to go one better than his debut second over hurdles at Aintree last month and he took full advantage. He got too far back when beaten in Liverpool and was again anchored well back,
attempting to go a lot quicker than Tony McCoy wanted him to. On the far side he had plenty of ground to make up on Saffron Prince, but he was trapping once allowed his head and put in some slick jumps. That saw him
upsides two out and this success was the epitome of 'hard held', as he rates value for an awful lot further than the bare margin. This talented 5yo is learning his trade and will likely make up into a very useful hurdler this
term. Indeed it wouldn't surprise to see him emerge as a candidate for the Betfair Hurdle (Handicap) at Newbury in February, a race his leading owner J P McManus won with Champion Hurdle hopeful My Tent Or Yours last
season.
2075 , runner-up in the Champion Bumper last season, proved all the rage for this switch to hurdles. He was anchored in last early on and made his move leaving the back straight. The response when he got asked for an effort
was limited, however, and he ultimately hit top gear too late. More positive tactics are required, indeed he may want a stiffer test in this sphere and, while it may be deemed disappointing by some, he remains a bright
prospect who should soon make amends.
4738 , the winner of two bumpers from subsequent scorers, was held up like the winner and made his move slightly ahead of his rival. However, despite running on well in the straight, he was no match for that horse in the
straight. He is bred to jump and should be able to win his share next season.
1838 , bought by JP McManus since his winning debut on the Southwell Fibresand, followed up in impressive style, quickening right away to win eased down. He's highly regarded and is clearly a bright prospect, although this
opposition was not strong.
QUOTES
4109 Regal Encore seems to have been better suited by the drying ground and the step up in trip as it has given him the chance to get a blow in and go again. He will probably go for the final at Cheltenham - Anthony Honeyball,
trainer.
2564 I was delighted with him - he was nice and straight and he will be better in settling off a stronger pace. We will keep him ticking over in another novice as he needs more experience.-Anthony Honeyball, trainer.
1838 AP [McCoy] said he hit a flat spot and then quickened up. I think the plan is likely to remain in bumpers, and perhaps he's a festival horse, but one step at a time. He has schooled over hurdles and was arrow-straight. JP
McManus bought him over the summer.-Anthony Honeyball, trainer.

NOTE-BOOK
4482 , a progressive novice last season, left the impression that this step up in trip would suit when a fast-finishing fourth on his seasonal/handicap debut over 2m5f at Kempton in November. Never far from the pace, he travelled
best into the straight and, once jumping to the front at the third-last, he kept finding more and scored in fine style. He would have to be considered if lining up in either the Coral Cup or Pertemps Final at Cheltenham.
2251 , making his handicap debut, took his time to pick up for pressure before keeping on well after the last. A progressive hurdler last season, he would have been suited by a stronger gallop and should come on plenty for this.
5486 , back on quicker ground, was unimpressive in landing the odds and needed much of his brilliant jockey's skills to come out on top. He raced enthusiastically off the uneven gallop and wasn't that suited by the course,
especially the final bend. However, he could have jumped a lot better and did take a long time to reach top gear, looking as though he wasn't helping Barry Geraghty much. His handicap mark looks about right, though, a
softer surface may suit ideally, and it's still relatively early days with him.
5015 , penalised like the winner, quickened things up after the second flight in the straight, but could never shake off his market rival and was pipped right on the line. It was a career-best effort in defeat.
3774 will surely prefer a sounder surface and he should make a better hurdler than chaser.
3175 had been taken out of an intended engagement due to soft ground three days previously, but had no problems handling it here. Settled just behind the pace, he jumped much better than on his hurdles debut at Southwell
and was always travelling strongly. He quickened well turning for home to put the race to bed and readily brushed aside some fair types. This was a taking performance from which he can build on, especially when the
ground improves.
2351 a bumper winner on his debut here back in May, didn't jump these brush obstacles well and did well to get involved. He's no great shakes but may step up on this over a longer trip on better ground.
291 , a newcomer from a good family and a top stable, made a decent start to his career. Ridden patiently, he eased into contention coming off the home turn and grabbed the lead approaching the final furlong. His debut victory
was assured in a matter of strides.
QUOTES
4482 I couldn't believe how well Call The Cops travelled. He jumped well and really quickened up when I asked him - Andrew Tinkler, rider.
5486 Call The Cops was a bit keen going down, but settled fine in the race. This course would be as sharp as he really wants and he is going the right way. - Barry Geraghty, jockey.
3175 I'm not sure he wants it that deep and he'll be better on better ground. He's had plenty of practice schooling at home since his last run and jumped well today. It was a good performance.Andrew Tinkler, rider

came home a gutsy winner and landed his biggest pot to date. He failed to sparkle over the National fences last time, but was a solid second at Sandown the time before off just 1lb lower.
, wearing a tongue-tie and cheekpieces together for the first time, stayed on for pressure but looked tired late on.
, who won the juvenile event on this card in 2010 when trained by Paul Nicholls, got a positive ride and showed his true colours back chasing after a break with his yard in hot form.
has been hitting the headlines recently, having been awarded a race on appeal. Up 4lb, this was a rare below-par run.
was up with the pace all the way and battled on well. Gavin Sheehan had his whip in the correct hand up the run-in, but the gelding seemed to edge to his right close home, possibly distracted by a loose horse in front of
him who was about to take the water jump, and hampered second home Benbens on his outside. He was rather unfortunate to lose this, and was later reinstated.
4325 , a consistent performer, beat an in-form rival in one of these on his previous visit to this course and was heavily backed. His rider was happy to let him share the lead, despite his preference for dominating, and he didn't
look too happy with 5f to run. However, whatever the tactics, the winner proved in a different league.
3652 was returning to fences off a 14lb higher mark than when scoring over them last year (successful over hurdles since) and he ran a satisfactory race over a trip short of his best. Hes consistent and remains capable of
better.
QUOTES
3272 After Dolatulo ran over the National fences last time I thought if this race as I thought the track would suit him and he has done it well. The National could be a plan and Dougie Costello suggested something like the Sky Bet
Chase for him. He is still a relatively young horse but he obviously stays very well and jumps very economically - Warren Greatrex, trainer

NOTE-BOOK
3278 could never really get in a blow from off the pace but, even though he was dropping back from 3m, even this trip stretches him when the ground becomes testing.
Page 6

2047 , very well supported, was never far away and came home a ready winner on his seasonal return. His yard traditionally performs strongly at this time of year and he was back down in class at a venue he loves. The 6yo has
now won first time up for the past three seasons and a likely rise will dictate his form must be taken to a new level, although it could well be we've yet to see the very best of him. Another step up in trip is also likely to figure
before long.
5138 , who goes well on a sound surface as well as soft, had cheekpieces on this time and was unsurprisingly well backed. However, he failed to land a blow having been held up in midfield.
4374 , whose win over the "fixed brush" hurdles at Haydock in November has worked out very well before a fine fourth in the Lanzarote, had a 4lb penalty to carry on this return to hurdles after being beaten at odds-on in a
Polytrack jumpers' bumper. Off the bridle before exiting the back straight, he tried hard to get on terms with the winner, but looked tired as he started to hang between the final two flights and time may show he faced a stiff
task. There will be other days.
4018 came into this 2-3 in bumpers and has developed into a useful hurdler this term. He travelled well enough on the inside, but was in trouble shortly after the race began to get serious and one wouldn't have thought the new
surface was solely to blame
3646 shaped with promise on this handicap debut, staying on steadily for fourth. He could still have more to offer.
2659 's penalty for his Market Rasen success two starts back meant he was conceding weight to some unexposed types here, but he still proved good enough and impressed both with the way he travelled into contention and in
how he stuck at it to eventually forge ahead up the long run-in. The trip wasn't a problem and the tongue-tie didn't do him any harm either, so he looks likely to continue to progress.
2103 gives this form a decent look. He shaped as though this longer trip would suit when off the mark over hurdles at Market Rasen and saw it out well, without getting to the winner. He too is up to defying his penalty and could
nick a decent handicap down the line when faced with a sound surface.
1688 , a dual bumper winner, had been beaten at very short odds over C&D on his last outing in March, but that was on soft and it transpired he had broken a blood vessel. He was given an assured, confidence-boosting ride for
his first run back, and after looking a bit green initially he showed good strength to overhaul the runner-up.
QUOTES
2047 Charlie Longsdon, trainer of Spirit Of Shankly: He had a wind operation in the summer and Noel said he is really running to the line now, which he hasn't been able to in the past. I wouldn't be worried about stepping him up
to three miles and he could go to Newbury for the Hennessy meeting.
2659 The tongue strap has made a world of difference today. He didn't go through with it at Aintree, but he did here. We thought a lot of him last year, but he had a lot of problems with his feet and credit must go our farrier. He
must be very carefully managed and he will stick to hurdles this season. He probably wants better ground.-Charlie Longsdon, trainer.
1688 He was wrong from Christmas time last year despite his form figures not being bad - he was beaten at 1-6 here. He has had his problems and Noel said this was the way to ride him - hold him up as long as possible. I
thought he was beaten but Noel said he had him covered. He is a confidence horse and a nice horse who can hopefully go onwards and upwards. - Charlie Longsdon, trainer

NOTE-BOOK
4225 , an easy winner under this rider at Newbury a week earlier, was 13lb higher and repeated the dose, being well positioned as the tapes went up and finding plenty, always looking to be doing enough. He'll head for the final
of the series at Cheltenham now, but will obviously find it more difficult there.
4081 , receiving weight all round, went out in front and was quickly able to open up a long lead. Jumping fluently, he kept up the gallop and the pack never looked like catching him. The gelding travelled far more sweetly than he
had when winning at Chepstow, when Michael Heard gave him another fine, if very different ride. This was perhaps not entirely the fluke that it at first appeared, and it will be interesting to see what the handicapper makes of
it.
3306 plugged on again having lost his place, but was never a threat.
2940 was given a never-say-die ride by his 7lb-claiming jockey Michael Heard to record a fourth success, and first at 3m. He appreciates ease in the ground, but victory looked unlikely under a strong drive in fourth turning in. His
jockey's persistence paid off, though, and he came through two tiring rivals on the run-in to nudge ahead in the closing stages.
2267 is returning to a decent mark, but he was again readily swept aside and remains a long way below his best.
4264 was allowed to dominate, as he likes to, and once again showed a big heart after being headed, rallying gamely despite doing plenty early.
QUOTES
4225 I can't believe a nine-year-old can still be improving but Bygones Sovereign is. We'll go to the Pertemps Final now and Michael [Heard] will keep the ride. - Alan Kaplan, owner.
4081 That was a bit of a turn-up. Michael (Heard) has given Bygones Sovereign a fantastic ride and the other jockeys have given him too much rope. This was the exact opposite of his last win when he was off the bridle for a
circuit and he just got up in the last stride! He has enjoyed an easy lead today and hopefully the handicapper won't take it literally. The way he jumps he will jump fences and I have been putting it off but he will next season David Pipe, trainer.
2940 David Pipe's representative Gerry Supple: Bygones Sovereign can be a bit in and out but was on a good day. That is just the way he is.

NOTE-BOOK
4354 had twice disappointed since winning on his return from a layoff, the last time when pulled up over C&D in December, but was well supported here and only just missed out, coming off second best in a photo with his
stablemate. He holds a couple of entries at Cheltenham, and would be interesting if taking in the Coral Cup over 3f shorter.
3306 stopped as though something had gone amiss and continues to go backwards from his reappearance win.
2662 , bidding to give David Pipe his fourth winner in the last five runnings of this, was 3lb well in with the penalty for his Cheltenham success. He had his chance, but could have found this coming a bit too soon.
2493 pulled off a big gamble and opened his account for connections on his return from a long layoff. The Pipes know all about success in this event and he got heavily backed despite the absence, looking potentially very well
treated still. Tom Scudamore exuded confidence and the 7yo arrived on the scene cantering three out. Scudamore took a pull turning for home, but was up against a stout stayer in Big Easy and he ultimately had to fight
from the last. He was always doing enough, however, and this was a cracking effort all considered. Providing he remains sound, there could be plenty more to come yet.
4390 , whose Boxing Day C&D defeat has started to work out well, was sent off favourite, but he took a long while to get into the race and was just outbattled near the line. He was only narrowly beaten but might have preferred
more of a stamina test.
3227 was a real eyecatcher on his British debut at Haydock, only for a blunder to halt his progress. He again travelled well, but faded quickly going to two out, where he made a mistake. He's worth another chance.
Page 7
formcheltenham
12.03.15
2622 took a strong grip for a long way but looked far from beaten when crashing through the third-last. There was no way back from that point but he is readily given another chance, even if dropped in distance. Conor OFarrell
reported that he had twisted his knee when the gelding made a mistake at the third-last hurdle, and was unable to ride out for sixth place.

has found some form again, keeping on well without being able to reel in the winner. She's capable of winning from this mark.
looked in a bit of trouble after four out, but kept on gamely and wasn't beaten that far. The step up to 3m seemed to suit.
dropped out quickly on the approach to the second-last.
, popular in the market, was held up in rear and, with the winner dictating from the front, struggled to get into it. The race didn't play out her way, but she's on a competitive mark and will have other opportunities.
, a likeable and admirable mare, ran a very pleasing race on this reappearance. She's not handicapped out of things.
, who edged out The Pirate's Queen at Newbury, wasn't at her best on this drop back in trip, struggling to hold her pitch on the downhill run to the second-last. She finished out of the placings for the first time in her career.
, up 8lb, is extremely consistent and, despite a less-than-fluent jump at the last, she overpowered the runner-up close home. She had been a bit keen early, but that didn't stop her seeing the race out strongly, and she's
certainly got the scope to jump a fence next season.
4305 , making her handicap debut, was in a good position throughout and got produced at the right time to claim a fourth win. She has been really consistent since making a successful debut last March, is versatile with regards
to trip, and has yet to finish out of the first three.
3818 gave her all in trying to concede 4lb to the winner and rates a rock-solid benchmark for the form. She can defy her double penalty away from such useful sorts, but her handicap mark of 114 also looks workable.
3329 won as she should despite clattering the last. She has a mark of 112 which looks tempting now that she would have the burden of a double penalty to defy if remaining in the novice ranks.
QUOTES
4961 We've had her since she was a yearling. She has been very consistent and I think the plan is to remain over hurdles this year. - Colin Magnier, part-owner's representative.
3329 She is a really nice mare and it all fell right for her. She wants a big track like this and Catterick didn't suit her last time. - Tim Easterby, trainer

NOTE-BOOK
3977 , who needs to find improvement to defy his current mark, sat a bit closer to the pace than ideal and weakened late on.
3278 ran well for a long way but a mistake at the third-last seemed to put him on the back foot and he could never get back into it. He clearly has the ability to win a race off this sort of mark if he can put in a clear round.
2791 had been a bit disappointing in three starts since winning twice at the end of last year, albeit he was entitled to need last month's Cheltenham return. Well backed, he was always in about the same place and had his chance
all the way up the straight, but could never quite get on terms with the game winner. This was still better, though.
1932 , who was the subject of good market support late on, was held up at the back and never got close enough to deliver a challenge. He has clearly shown something at home and can do better.
3646 bolted up over C&D on Boxing Day and the handicapper reacted with a 16lb rise. He loomed up into contention, but was beaten when taking a tired fall at the last. It may pay to afford him another chance.
3263 blew his field apart. A narrow winner of a Fontwell novice hurdle last time, the gelding was much better suited by this track on his handicap debut and he came right away between the last two flights. He jumped nicely and
is clearly a good way in front of the handicapper.
2740 had shown bags of promise on his hurdling debut at Exeter, but this slightly sharper test wasn't ideal. He looked held taking the last, but ran on up the hill to snatch it. The impression he left is that he is better than this bare
form.
2279 shaped with a good deal of promise on this hurdles debut, travelling well, and although unable to race on with the front pair, he should come on a good deal for the run and can win a novice hurdle.
5262 was purchased for 26,000euros as a 3yo and then resold for 60,000 at Cheltenham later that year. He hit a flat spot in the home straight but really got the idea in the final furlong.
QUOTES
3263 He's a lovely horse. He's a real terrier, who isn't bothered by anything or any ground and will keep getting better and better. He's only a four-year-old and that's his first time against handicappers. - Emma Lavelle, trainer
2740 He's a nice horse, he's just still a bit of a baby and a little green when he comes off the bridle. But I think it was a nice enough race and hopefully he's a horse with a bit of a future, although we'll keep it low key. - Emma
Lavelle, trainer.

NOTE-BOOK
4225 , going beyond 2m6f for the first time on what was his handicap debut, didn't quite have the stamina reserves of the front pair, but it's still early days for the 5yo and he retains potential as a stayer.
3881 doubled is tally over hurdles and was much too good for this field. It was far from plain sailing for the 5yo, however, as he jumped poorly and went in snatches from an early stage, which is far from ideal around here. To his
credit he produced when it mattered and looked better the further he went. He could prove very useful on better ground later on.
3509 , taking a marked step up in trip, didn't fail for want of stamina, staying on to the line. However his jumping let him down and he was never really travelling with any enthusiasm. He had worn a hood on his last two starts but
it was missing here.
2968 made a winning start over hurdles, quickening between rivals after the last. He was a useful bumper horse and can progress up the ladder in this sphere, although the hood indicates he's not wholly straightforward.
2524 , third in the Aintree bumper on his final start last season, wore a hood for the first time. He was one of the first under pressure, and whether this ground was ideal for this son of Raven's Pass is doubtful. He is also
expected to go hurdling now.
5173 , 2-2 in bumpers, was on his toes beforehand. Always up there, he did well to keep on for third as he got himself into quite a sweat. He could be interesting for staying races on the Flat.
4424 , off since winning at Taunton in December, only just managed to get to the front in the dying strides, but is almost certainly better than the winning margin suggests. He's probably above average in this sphere and he did
well under his penalty, but this didn't tell us much apart from he has a nice turn-of-foot. John Ferguson said afterwards that if his gelding grows up, he could head for the Champion bumper at Aintree.
3049 was ridden with plenty of confidence and quickened up nicely to lead when asked. A half-brother to a 7f Flat winner and also a winner in South Africa, out of a winner at up to 1m2f in Brazil, he has a future but looks more
of a Flat prospect than a potential hurdler.
QUOTES
3881 I don't think he was in love with the ground, it's very tacky which made it quite hard work for him - Sam Twiston-Davies, jockey.
2968 He missed the last two but the way he finished I would say a step up in trip would suit him. - Sam Twiston-Davies, jockey.
4424 We wanted to take it easy with him but he's been very fresh at home recently and I felt we had to run. It's all a learning curve - he's only run twice and won twice. His future is over hurdles but if he grows up enough he
might be an Aintree bumper horse. - John Ferguson, trainer.

NOTE-BOOK
4001 , on his second start following a lengthy absence, was a big eyecatcher. The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of the gelding, who was held up in rear before staying on to finish fourth beaten six lengths.
They interviewed the rider and the trainer's representative. They also received a report from the vet. The rider stated his instructions were to drop the gelding in with a couple of runners behind him, get him relaxed and
jumping and do the best he could. He stated that having settled his mount early in the race he asked for an effort turning into the home straight and pushed him hands and heels all the way to the line and he had obtained the
best possible placing. The trainer's representative confirmed the instructions and added that he was satisfied with the ride given. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their
explanations.
1217a edged out Domination at Galway but couldn't live with him here. Davy Russell didn't appear overly happy with a circuit to race but Edeymi came back on the bit down the back straight and was the only one to give any sort
of chase to the winner. He has the option of going back over fences as he probably would have won on his chasing debut at Tramore but for falling at the last.
4842a's Irish Flat form did not give him much chance but he stayed the trip well and held on snugly enough in first-time cheekpieces. He travelled well and saved crucial ground under an excellently polished ride coming into the
straight, when others were forced wide. His amateur always seemed quite confident that the horse was holding on, though he drifted left under a right-handed drive up the run-in. He was probably more suited than many by
how the race was run but the future should be bright for a horse of this type. He is set to run in the Galway Hurdle if he can get in.
949a was close to the winner most of the way but he wasn't able to match the turn of foot she showed and just kept going at one pace from the second last. As a confidence booster it might have done the trick but it was below
his best.
4148a ran a good race and probably is not on a bad mark.
266a was only narrowly denied in last year's Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival and, while his two displays this season left a lot to be desired, bad ground may have been to blame. He was produced with his challenge
towards the outside and his turn of foot was much more evident on this quicker surface. He saw out the trip really well and it will be interesting to see what his astute trainer has in mind for him now. He could even head to
the festival for something like the Coral Cup.
QUOTES
4842aThe winner loves the good ground. He has not had much luck over hurdles and it took a while to get him right. I thought they would both be placed with some luck. Edeymi is entered later in the week and I don't think he had
too hard a race. - Tony Martin, trainer

NOTE-BOOK
3445 , having looked well held turning in, ran on strongly up the hill and almost grabbed third. It's not the first time he's done this, and he'll fall in one of these days having hit a big price in-running.
3057 , visored for the first time, was given a patient ride and was staying on all too late at the finish. The race wasn't really run to suit him but he showed he's still on a competitive mark. He's even better handicapped over fences
and, while he didn't really take to chasing the first time round, he may have gained some confidence from a successful spell of pointing. He could be an interesting candidate for the Welsh National (25-1 generally),
especially if Harry Topper doesn't run and the weights go up.
2662 , coming here on a four-timer but put up 8lb after Cheltenham, lost his pitch starting out on the final circuit with his rider hard at work. He was never seen with a chance after, but did stay on past some tired opponents.
1932 has always had plenty of ability, but really seemed to get his act together in the spring and confirmed that impression here. Never far away, he was delivered with his challenge going to the final flight and found plenty up
the hill. He looks one to keep on-side in the short term at least.
Page 9

12.03.15
5559 , winner of four points, came here on the back of a hard-earned success in a 3m novices' hurdle at Ludlow. Happy to sit out the back in a strongly-run affair, he scored in convincing fashion. He looks every inch a staying
chaser.
4356 , unbeaten in five points last year, had yet to transform that form back to this discipline, but with the favourite disappointing this proved an ideal opportunity for him to get his head in front over hurdles. This didn't really tell
us much and he is going to be seen to better effect when going chasing.
3800 , back to some form on bad ground at Ascot in a handicap last month, took plenty of interest in the race. He was getting held back by the ground before fluffing two out, though, and failed to see it out.
3195 should have given the winner more to do. Held up off the steady pace, he was slow at several hurdles and his rider probably took a little too long getting after him, brief interference after the second-last not helping either. A
multiple winning pointer earlier in the year, he disappointed in a novice event at the course on his return to rules, but this effort was more in keeping with his form from a couple of years ago.
2642 was interesting back hurdling after his winning spree in points last season and set the standard on previous efforts under rules. However, he ran a moody looking race and it's back to the drawing board for his connections.
4745 had 23lb in hand on official ratings but looks out of love with the game at present. The blinkers were left off today after a couple of disappointing efforts and a small error at the second fence seemed to knock his
confidence again, with Sam Twiston-Davies having to administer a couple of smacks. The rider was hard at work a long way from home and, while his mount responded to some degree by staying on into second, it was
more a case of passing some fairly moderate rivals who were tiring up the straight. It could be that a step up in trip is needed and it may also be worth trying to make the running with this frustrating sort.
QUOTES
1932 We will stick with hurdles for the minute with him and he could go to Haydock for the Fixed Brush Final next month.-Nigel Twiston-Davies, trainer.

NOTE-BOOK
4109 arrived at the top of his game and ran a solid race off 9lb higher than when scoring at Warwick.
3817 is enjoying a fruitful season and won this well, staying on best after travelling strongly into contention. He's lightly raced for his age and could have more progress in him.
3178 , off the mark under rules in a 3m novice event at Southwell last time, travelled well on this handicap debut and was the only one capable of racing on with the winner. He missed out this time to a gutsy sort, but clearly has
a race in him from this sort of mark.
2870 had run with promise on his first two starts over hurdles this autumn, and this contest looked a good opportunity for him to get off the mark. He duly delivered in straightforward fashion, and this future staying chaser should
continue to pay his way over the smaller obstacles.
2287 ran well on his stables/hurdles debut at Exeter and backed that up with another fair effort. He was no match for the impressive victor but travelled kindly through the race and finished a long way clear of the third. This was
only his second start over hurdles and he looks capable of landing a prize in the coming months.
1985 was returning from a six-month break on his first start for new trainer Alan King, but has won when similarly fresh. He finished a promising third here on his hurdles debut after racing a tad keenly early on.
5465a's jumping was never that fluent but O'Connor managed to keep him in a good position and he responded well in the straight. He was just outpointed by a better horse on the day.
QUOTES
3817 The Tourard Man is incredibly tough. We'll stay hurdling this season but I'm looking forward to him going chasing next season. He's a fun horse but progressive - Alan King, trainer.
2870 His first two runs of the year had been good and he deserved to get his head in front. - Richard Johnson, jockey.

NOTE-BOOK
4218 got back to winning ways with a clear-cut display. He ran too quickly when flopping at Newbury in November and was well backed to come good again. The ground was up his street and, down on trip, connections got the
tactics spot on as he made it a serious test. A likely rise should now enable him to get a run at Cheltenham next month and the Martin Pipe Conditional Riders' Handicap seems the ideal target. While he grabbed the ground,
his action here hinted that better ground wouldn't totally inconvenience him either.
2791 avoided a penalty for landing a gamble in a 2m5f conditionals' handicap at Cheltenham 12 days earlier when overcoming jumping errors, a slip turning for home and a 640-day absence. Officially 10lb well in and stepping
up in trip, he appeared to slip on landing after four out and it wasn't long before he looked in real trouble. He may not have stayed, while this may have come too quick. The Stewards considered his running and noted the
trainer's explanation that the disappointing run may have been due to the gelding having its second run in a short time, following a lengthy absence.
2519 , with his stable having had a double here yesterday, proved all the rage for this handicap/seasonal debut and completed the task, but did make heavy weather of it. Indeed he was sixth nearing the last. However, once
switched towards the far side he ate up the ground. Considering he slipped on the home turn, did make errors and would have enjoyed a stronger gallop, he has to rate value for further. Stepping up to 3m also promises the
suit this ex-French winner and a likely rise may still underestimate him.
4210 , 2-2 in France, made a promising debut for this yard when third at Ffos Las 12 days earlier, but he didn't build on that, producing a laboured effort. He seemed to be travelling well enough approaching the second-last but
failed to quicken in the ground, shaping as though a longer trip and a sounder surface will suit.
3982 , 2-2 in France, including a hurdle on his latest start, ran well considering he had a penalty to shoulder, staying on in the manner of a horse likely to benefit from a stiffer test.
QUOTES
4218 He was at the right end of the weights and the rain came last night and it did us no harm. He needs to go up in the ratings to get into any of the handicaps at Cheltenham but we'll chat to everyone involved. Whether it's
Cheltenham or not he'll be going for a decent handicap somewhere - David Pipe, trainer.
2519 He's had tendon problems and it's good of JP McManus to send the horse back to me. We fancied him today but it didn't look like it for a long way. He stayed very well and handled the ground. - David Pipe, trainer.
Note:
Racing Post and Topspeed ratings have been adjusted for age and today's weight. With the exception of the 'Life' Racing Post rating, those ratings alongside the summary statistics show the best Racing
Post rating for each category to date starting two seasons ago i.e. if the current season is 2003 then ratings from 2001, 2002 and 2003 will count. In the summary statistics only ratings on the same
surface are included for flat races and only races over the same obstacles are included for jumps races. The abbreviations H,L and P indicate a horse's style of running, H-Held up, L-Led, P-Pressed
leaders. The abbreviation 'awd' stands for average winning distance and indicates the average winning distance of a sire or dam's progeny. Average winning distance statistics do not include 2-y-o races.
The abbreviation 'aei' stands for average earnings index and indicates how much prize-money a sire or dam's progeny has earned compared with the average. The average is expressed as 1.0, therefore
an aei of 1.5 indicates that a sire's progeny has earned 1 1/2 times the average. The rtf% after a trainer's 14-day record indicates the percentage of a stable's representatives that have run to form in the
last 14 days.
