Automated Light Rail Vehicle

London-Docklands, United Kingdom

In London, 55 new automatically guided light

rail vehicles are taking up service on new extensions
and upgraded tracks of the rapidly expanding
Docklands Light Railway (DLR) network.
The vehicles, ordered by DLR since May 2005, complement
the 94 automatically guided vehicles already supplied
between January 1991 and March 2002. Parts of the order
of the 55 vehicles are specifically for the London Olympics in
2012, in fact this was the first transportation order that TFL
placed for the Olympics. The vehicles will serve the Olympic
Village which will take competitors to the Stadiums.

Light Rail Vehicles

Linking the centre of London with the eastern Docklands

area of London, DLR is the first public transport system in
England that has been totally computerised and operates
without drivers. Since its opening, the present 31 kilometre
network has been gradually expanding and now also serves
London City Airport, with further extensions planned and
under construction.
The new generation of DLR light rail vehicles feature
rounded styling which provide a dynamic and futuristic
appearance.
