Why have 3D printers in the classroom?

It is evident that 3D Printing has a place in the classroom and will continue to have a significant
impact in education. The question one needs to ask, is how does one determine which printer is
best suited to learning and teaching. As with any piece of technology, it is important to consider
the ease of setup and operation, reliability and product support.
When children use 3D printers, they have a mindset for better learning, one where it was okay to
make mistakes. This contributes to their boldness for design, increasing their confidence and
imagination. Our world changes at such a rapid pace, more than it has in the past. B
The ability to solve real problems in the physical world is one of the key strengths of 3D
printing. Having the shift in mindset that they can make objects to change the environment
around them, allowing them to solve physical problems. Software engineers take for granted that
they can write code to solve their digital problems. Many other computer uses dont believe that
they too can solve these very same digital problems. With 3D printing, anyone can now tackle
the problems in the real world. In the past, there was no tool that made it so easy to do.
The potential presented by direct digital manufacturing and rapid prototyping systems in
education is gaining traction and 3D Printing Systems are the leading provider of 3D printers in
Oceania. 3D printing gives students the unlimited ability to design, test and engineer with hands
on exposure to additive manufacturing and gives them an advantage at the dawn of the next
revolution in digital manufacturing. Nearly every subject has a potential engagement. From
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Physics, Design, Art, Law, Ethics,
Psychology and Anthropology as well as several other fields in which 3D Printers offer the
ability to create solid physical models could be used to develop discipline-specific courses for
further education and a future in the next revolution of manufacturing.
Combine students limitless potential with 3D printing and the result is a powerful combination
Create powerful learning environments in your school. 3D Printing empowers students to
embrace innovative technology and allows them to reach new levels of thinking.

All levels of education

Colleges and universities across Australia and New Zealand depend on our affordable and easy
to use 3D Printer Systems. 3D printers can be found in many different departments: engineering,
computer science, biology, chemistry, architecture and industrial design. Secondary schools have
integrated 3D printing into their curriculum; primary schools empower their students creativity
with 3D printing.
Let your students master the same technology being used by companies around the world.

Cyber-learning Modelling & simulation

How can 3D printing improve classroom learning? By providing a hands on experience for all
students regardless of their backgrounds and cultural differences. Be sure to review this paper by
Tony Fisher on 3D printing in a high school environment.
All the pupils who have been involved with the 3D printer so far have been inspired by its
possibilities. The opportunity to realise a concept or idea quickly into a 3D product is an
incredibly powerful teaching tool.- David Jermy, Head of DT, Settlebeck School

Engineering
Children need a reason to be inspired towards engineering. Rather than starting prospective
engineering students off with abstract theory and math-based problem solving, why not expose
them to the joys of product design by enabling them to experience, first-hand, an entire product
design cycle in less than a week? Students interacting with 3D at an earlier age will open doors
to get them interested in engineering and thinking out of the box so to speak.

Maths
Bring formulas and equations to life by using a free program called www.openscad.org. See past
the formulas and equations to what can be created by them. Many complex models are created
using maths.

Minecraft
Lets students play, create and learn in a world they already know. By
using Minecraftedu teachers and students are teaching and learning in a digital 3D world that can
now come to life with 3D printers. It encompasses design, planning, and teamwork.
