+27 dBm (ATPC: HIGH)/ +17 dBm (ATPC: LOW) for 13 GHz
Measured at TX port on MSTU with modulated power.
Test instruments required:
Power meter with sensor (EPM-442A+8481A or equivalent)
Fixed attenuator (30 dB) or equivalent.

TX Output Power Measurement Procedure:

1.

Turn off the circuit power breaker on MSTU.

2. Remove the TX OUT cable.

3. Connect power meter to the SMA connector marked with TX.
If the maximum range of the power meter is less than the rated output power level
of MSTU, insert fixed and calibrated attenuator between the TX output and the
power meter.
4. Turn on the circuit power breaker on MSTU.
5. Set the TX output power to HIGH.
6. Read the power meter indication.
7. Set the TX output power to LOW.
8. Read the power meter indication.
NOTE:
TX output power is specified at the MSTU output port, and the
measured value at the MSTU Adapter should be converted by the
following equation.
TX output power = Measured value + MSTU Adapter loss

1.

Preparation for measurement

a.

Warm up the frequency counter at least 30 minutes before measurement.

b.

The BAND SELECT SW on the frequency counter shall be set to the

appropriate RF frequency range.

2. Set up the test circuit as shown in Figure 1-4.

3. Record the Transmit Local frequency and calculate its tolerance using the following
formula.
Tolerance (kHz) = (Measured frequency - Specified TX LO frequency)
4. Compare the results with the following tables.

Test Procedure
If Space Diversity system is applied, this test should be done for both MN receiver and
SD receiver independently.
1.

Change the status of RSPI to IS-MT (In Service Maintenance state) by WebLT for
both the near-end and far-end station.

2. Remove the SD RX RF input cable.

3. Operate the FMSR (Frequency Measurement) command to the near-end station.
4. Set Microwave Link Analyzer for IF-IF test.
5. Connect OUTPUT of Microwave Link Analyzer to 70M INPUT port on MSTU of the
far-end station.
6. Connect XPIC OUT of MSTU to INPUT of Microwave link analyzer.
7. Set ITEM NO rotary switch on MSTU of near-end station to B.
8. Set RX RF GAIN to adjust MN 70M OUT level to 10 dBm +/-1 dB.
9. Set the RX IF GAIN to adjust XPIC OUT level to 10 dBm +/- 1 dB.
10. Measure the amplitude response characteristics.
11. Measure the group delay characteristics in the same manner.
12. Replace the SD RX RF input cable and remove the MAIN RX RF cable.
13. Measure the amplitude response characteristics and group delay characteristics for
the SD receiver in the same manner.
14. Release the FMSR (Frequency Measurement).
15. Change the status of RSPI to IS (In Service) state by WebLT for both the near-end
and far-end station.
16. Repeat item 1 through item 15 for all RF channels.

BER Characteristics Test

Test Type:
Hop test
Test Objective:
To measure the BER Characteristics of STM-1 working
channels
Specifications:
For 64 QAM:
BER=10-3 or better at RSL= -74.5dBm
BER=10-6 or better at RSL= -70.5dBm
Note: RSL is 1 dB higher for the 11 GHz band.
For 128 QAM:
BER=10-3 or better at RSL= -72.0dBm
BER=10-6 or better at RSL= -68.0dBm
Note: RSL is 0.5 dB higher for the 8 GHz (L8GHz/K8GHz) band and 2.5 dB higher for
the 13 GHz band.
Test instruments required:
STM-1 analyzer (MP1570A or equivalent)
Power Meter with sensor (EPM-442A+8481D or equivalent
PC (for Web LT)
Test set-up:
Shown in Figure 1-7

Test Procedure
1.

Set up the test circuit as shown in Figure 1-7.

2. Provisioning: IS (In-Service) for all units

3. Calibrate the RF variable attenuator (considering loss of adapter) so as to set the
RSL.
NOTE:
RX receiving power is specified at the MSTU input port, and the
measured value should be converted by the MSTU adaptor loss.
Refer to Table 1-2 for the MSTU adaptor loss.
4. Measure the BER and confirm that the measured BER is met to the specifications.
5. In the case of the measurement of the Protection channel, turn off all circuit
breakers on the Main channels MSTU in order to switch the STM-1 signal path to
the protection channel.
6. In the case of the measurement of the Main channel, turn off the circuit breaker on
the Protection channels MSTU in order to prevent an unexpected switching
operation.

Radio Protection Switching (RPS) Test

Test Type:
Hop test
Test Objective:
To check for correct operation of the Radio Protection
Switch function
Specification:
Ensure RPS operation for the corresponding condition as
follows:
1) Automatic changeover and reversion
2) Manual changeover and reversion
Test instruments required:
STM-1 analyzer (MP1570A or equivalent)
Variable RF attenuator (ATT)
PC (for WebLT)
Test set-up:
Shown in Figure 1-9

Test Procedure
1.

Remove the cables of RF IN for MN and SD RX.

2. Insert the variable RF attenuator (ATT) between RF INPUT of MN RX and RF

OUTPUT of RX BPF for BRU.
3. Configure the test set-up as shown in Figure 1-9.
4. Prior to commencement of testing, confirm that the transmission path is error-free
condition. (5 minutes test).
5. Increase the attenuation of the ATT slowly and confirm with WebLT that the radio
protection switching by USW has been completed.
6. Confirm that there is not error in the data measured with SDH Analyzer.
7. Decrease the attenuation of the ATT slowly and confirm with WebLT that the radio
protection switching has been restored.
8. Confirm that there is not error in the data measured with SDH Analyzer.
9. Repeat steps 3 thru 8 for the other Work channels (if fitted).
10. Through WebLT, perform a manual switching by USW for WORK 1.
11. Confirm that there is not error in the data measured with SDH Analyzer.
12. Release the manual switch.
13. Confirm the switch reversion and error free.
14. Repeat steps 10 thru 13 for all Work bearers (if fitted).
