Dear Parents,

MESSAGE OF THE WEEK

Thank you so much for the support that we have seen over the last weeks in your effort to help raise
money for our swimming pool. Mr Shields completed the race successfully and would welcome all
sponsorship money to come to the office. Sponsorships forms are available at the main office or can be
found on our school website page.

Just a quick reminder that school does not finish early this Friday for our Easter break, but at the usual time of 3.05pm
(Infant building) and 3.10pm (Junior building) & 3.15pm (Nursery) dependant on your childs class. We will be

EASTER GAMES NIGHT 26

MARCH 6PM

Children and parents are welcome to attend the Easter Games Night, which was a really lovely event last year! A
chocolate tombola, egg bingo, treasure hunt, quizzes with prizes are just some of the fun activities planned for
Thursday nights event. Parents are welcome to bring their own nibbles and drinks (soft drinks/wines/beers) to enjoy.
Entry will be 1 for adults but free for all children who attend. Hot dogs will be available for sale at the kitchen
counter and tickets for the chocolate egg tombola will be priced at 3 for 1. Bingo game cards will be 50p each or 3
for 1.
URGENT - FOOTBALL KITS
Following the spectacular efforts of our football teams with them achieving the position of runners up, we would very
much like our red and blue team kits returning as soon as is possible before the end of this term. This will allow our
rugby and cricket teams will be prepared for their tournaments at the start of next term.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
The Lancashire Catering Service met with the school councillors last week and have made some really good decisions
and choices for the new menu which you have been recently provided with. We do hope you enjoy this over the
future months!
RECEPTION CLASSES LIVING EGGS EXPERIENCE
The children in our Early Years are to enjoy a really lovely experience watching chicks hatch in their classroom when
we return after the break as part of their learning. This really thrills the children to see observe and learn from this
experience. Can we please ask for reception parents to donate 2 to contribute towards this fantastic experience.
Many thanks!
YEAR 4 BRASS ASSEMBLY THURSDAY 26TH MARCH 11AM
As usual, we are to have a musical assembly, open to parents of our guitarists and brass players in Year 4, to see their
progress mid-year. This is usually a lovely event and I hope you will be able to join us if your child is performing.
ROBINWOOD OUTDOOR ACTIVITY RESIDENTIAL (YEAR 3 CHILDREN)
Children in Year 3 are invited to attend this very successful visit we hold each year. This visit is planned for next
December when the children are in their Year 4 class. Ideally we would like to take everyone! Please inform the office

and 20 deposit to secure your place by this Friday. If you are a recipient of free school meals, please let us know as
parents can obtain a reduced rate.
RESPECT FOR RESIDENTS
When dropping off and collecting children, could you please ensure that your children do not sit on our local
residents garden walls. I am sure you can understand their point of view. I think this may occur whilst queuing for the
ice cream van, which is positioned further down the drive at the close of the school day. I would really appreciate
your support in making our children aware and respecting other peoples property.
BIKEABILITY
Attached is a flyer describing the events the South Ribble Borough Council have promised which they will provide for
Reception Class Balance Bike graduates (Tots) and separately for Bikeability Level 2 pupils.
The complete dates are:
28/3 Tots
23/5 SRBC Family Ride
27/6 SRBC Family Ride
11/7 Tots
18/7 SRBC Family Ride
All publicity and booking is to be organised by South Ribble Borough Council. These Family rides will probably be
shorter than their normal rides but will be graded in groups to whoever turns up!
SWIMMING POOL FUNDRAISING FOR REFURBISHMENT TOTAL TO DATE 2227 AND RISING!
Please continue to spread this message as far as possible and if you are able to sponsor Mr Shields, forms are available
at the school office. Payments can be made now as the event has been completed! Cheques should be made payable
to Walton le Dale Primary School.
ROTAKIDS ANY OLD SPECTACLES? PHOTOGRAPH COMPETITION
Following a letter sent before the half term break, the RotaKid children of Year 4 have put their heads together and
would like to ask for your generosity in donating old spectacles you may have in drawers. Prescriptions and fashions
change so if you have any unused pairs, please send them to the school office and they can be placed in a recycling
box at the front entrance. All spectacles donated will be sent to Africa through the charity Sightsavers with the
support of the South Ribble Rotary Club.
GENERAL & EUROPEAN ELECTIONS - THURSDAY 7

TH

MAY 2015

It is with much regret that we have been informed that the school will have to shut on this day. The volume of voters
anticipated for these elections is anticipated to be far greater than usual and the schools usual system of closing the
nursery has been judged as inadequate for the needs of South Ribble election organisers. Many options have been
explored to keep the school open or partially open, however the Chair of Governors and I are resigned to the fact that
it will not be possible. The staff will all be present and working during this day addressing issues for school
development. I would like to apologise for this inconvenience and hope that the notice given allows you to make
alternative arrangements for this closure.
NURSERY PLACES FOR SEPTEMBER
If you have a child who is already three or will turn three before September 2015 and you are interested in your child
starting in our nursery, please feel free to come to the office to collect an application form to put their name down.
Please see the back of the newsletter for more information.
