 Introduction
The ValVue® HART software package provides a powerful interface to
Masoneilan’s Smart Valve Interfaces (SVI® II AP positioners), the Model
12300 Digital Level Transmitter (HDLT), and other HART® instruments.
ValVue allows you to quickly and easily configure and calibrate any
HART device.

The ValVue family contains three applications, ValVue HART, ValVue

HART PRM PLUG-IN and ValVue HART SNAP-ON.

Standalone or Integrated ValVue

ValVue HART can be accessed as a standalone application or it can be
accessed as a Plug-In Application to Yokogawa system or as SNAP-ON
to the Emerson Process Management AMS. Procedures for finding and
selecting devices are different in the two contexts. ValVue Standalone
offers login, user administration, and device selection. For AMS SNAP-
ON users, the AMS login, user administration, and device selection
methods are used. The SNAP-ON application requires a license.

Standalone edition
The standalone application connects directly to one or more devices
through a HART modem or a MTL Multiplexer network.

PRM PLUG-IN ValVue

This is the ValVue application that will launch as the PLUG-IN for
Masoneilan’s SVI II AP device (type 203) from the PRM UI.

Installing the Applications

The ValVue HART installation browser allows you to install each one of
the applications that comprise the ValVue family and to view docu-
mentation for the products and other helpful information. If you wish
to connect your computer to a device directly through a HART modem
or MTL Multiplexer, then install the standalone version. If you wish
to integrate ValVue with PRM and connect to devices using the PRM
PLUG-IN, then install the PLUG-IN client on your computer. The
following sections provide instructions for the installation of each
one of the applications.

 CD installation
1. Insert the CD in the computer’s CD or DVD media drive.

2. Select the application to install based on the purchased

license.

3. Follow the on-screen wizard to complete the installation.

4. Register the software to receive a software key.

(See registration section in this document)

Memory stick installation

1. Insert the memory stick in an available USB port.

2. Open a Windows Explorer window (if not automatically done).

3. Go to the root of the memory stick. Locate the folder

with a software description that corresponds with the
purchased license.

4. Double-click on the executable program to launch

the installer.

5. Follow the on-screen wizard to complete the installation.

6. Register the software to receive a software key.

(See registration section in this document)

Installing ValVue Standalone

To install ValVue Standalone:

1. Insert the ValVue CD in the computer’s CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.

2. Follow the installation instructions. If the Auto-Start function

is disabled on the CD-ROM, then open Windows Explorer
and double-click on the Setup.EXE file located in the root
of the CD.

3. Click on Install Standalone Edition on the installation browser

to begin installing ValVue Standalone.

 4. The first dialog box where you will be asked to make a
decision is for the installation folder shown in Figure 2.

5. If you prefer not to use the default, click on Change to select

a different one. That will bring up the file browser shown in
Figure 3. You may select any path from the file browser or
enter the path directly. If the specified folder does not exist, it
will be created for you. There is no downside for the location
of this installation folder.

 Installing the PRM related applications
1. Insert the ValVue PRM Plug-In CD in the computer’s CD-ROM
or DVD-ROM.

2. Follow the installation instructions. If the Auto-Start function

is disabled on the CD-ROM, then open Windows Explorer
and double-click on the Setup.EXE file located in the root of
the CD.

Assigning ValVue in PRM

1. After the software installation is complete, it is necessary to
assign the application to the proper asset in PRM.

2. From the Plant View, expand the tree to the desired asset
(FVP, SVI II or SVI II AP).

3. Click once on the asset.

4. From the toolbar of PRM, locate “Plug-In.” If it is not visible

then click on the double-arrow (far right) on the toolbar to
show additional settings. Select “Plug-In.”

5. Right click on the area of the “Tool Name” bar and

select “Add.”

6. Select the ValVue application as follows:

• ValVueFF for FVP product

• SVI2 Plug-In for SVI II product

• SVI2AP Plug-In for SVI II AP product

7. Steps 2 to 6, must be repeated for each asset. Refer to the

On-Line PRM instructions for more details.

Installing ValVue AMS Snap-On

To install ValVue AMS Snap-On:

1. Insert the ValVue CD in the computer’s CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.

2. Follow the installation instructions. If the Auto-Start function

is disabled on the CD-ROM, then open Windows Explorer
and double-click on the Setup.EXE file located in the root of
the CD.

3. Click on Install AMS Snap-On on the installation browser to

begin installing ValVue Standalone.

4. The first dialog box where you will be asked to make a

decision is for the installation folder shown in Figure 2.

5. If you prefer not to use the default, click on Change to select

a different one. That will bring up the file browser shown in
Figure 3. You may select any path from the file browser or
enter the path directly. If the specified folder does not exist, it
will be created for you. There is no downside for the location
of this installation folder.

 Starting the application for
the first time
ValVue HART is started according to the ValVue HART application:
Standalone, PRM Plug-In or AMS Snap-On.

Launching ValVue Standalone

To launch ValVue Standalone, simply double-click the ValVue icon
shown in Figure 4, installed on the desktop. The application requires
separate registration on each computer on which it is installed, but
comes with a free, fully functional 60-day trial period. Until the applica-
tion is registered, the dialog box shown in Figure 5 will show when the
application is started. Enter the information to register. Just click “OK”
to run unregistered. A dialog box will appear to inform you how many
days are left on the trial period as shown in Figure 6. At the end of the
trial period, the application will no longer run without registering.

 Launching PRM PLUG-IN ValVue
PRM PLUG-IN ValVue is launched from the PRM client user interface
once it has been registered in the PRM and associated with a specific
device as explained above. The PRM Central ValVue associated with
the PRM server must be running. Executing the plug-in, launches PRM
PLUG-IN ValVue. This automatically launches ValVue for the selected
device, provided that PRM Central ValVue has been licensed for that
device. The licensing restrictions described above for PRM Central
ValVue also apply to PRM PLUG-IN ValVue. After ValVue is exited,
ValVue can be launched for another licensed device in the device list.

User setup and login

Until you register ValVue HART, you can run ValVue using “admin” as
the User Name.

Logging into ValVue

When you successfully launch ValVue the login screen shown below
will display. To start ValVue for the first time:

1. Key in “admin.“

2. Click on “Login.“

 1. When ValVue initializes, the software will attempt to connect
to any devices found at designated Com Port.

2. ValVue will start at the Connected Devices screen, shown in

the figure below.

3. If ValVue connects with a device, it will include it in the

device list. Selecting this device from the list and clicking
“Select” or double-clicking on it, will launch ValVue and
allow you to view and initiate all the features provided by
ValVue HART.

Changing COM Port

ValVue Standalone comes configured for a HART modem connected to
COM1. If your configuration differs from this, you will need to change
the ValVue options. Please note that it may take several seconds for
ValVue to resolve that there is no device present if this is the incorrect
configuration because of the wait time and retries that ValVue employs
to ensure reliable HART communication.

To change connection options:

1. Select Tools menu as shown in the figure below.

2. In the Tools menu, select Set Options. ValVue will launch the
dialog box for Set Options.

3. In the Set Options dialog box, select the correct Com Port by
clicking the radio button to the left of the Com Port number
as shown in the figure below.

4. Click “OK” to change the port selection.

 Basic device setup
After selecting a connected device, ValVue will launch for the device
and display the Monitor screen.

Working in ValVue
ValVue is set up as a series of tabs and associated screens. Each screen
provides different functionality. To move from one screen to another,
simply click on the tab and the screen will be displayed.

Launching the Setup Wizard

When starting a HART device for the first time, the device must be
setup, configured and calibrated. ValVue provides an easy method for
accomplishing all related tasks using the Setup Wizard. The Setup
Wizard is the recommended method for setting up a device.

To run the Setup Wizard:

1. On the Monitor screen, select “Setup Wizard” as shown

in the figure below.

2. ValVue will launch a dialog box for Setup Wizard.

 3. In the Setup Wizard dialog box make your selections by
clicking the checkbox beside each step number.

4. After making selections, click on “Apply” to apply any

changes made in Step 1 and Step 2 (Set Tag and Descriptor,
Set Air Action) and to initiate Step 3 and Step 4 (Calibrate
Travel, Autotune).

5. If using the Setup Wizard for Calibrate Travel and Autotune,

ValVue will start calibration and autotuning, displaying
progress dialogs throughout the process.

Configuration
Configuration procedures can be performed separately on the
Configure tab. ValVue must be in setup mode to make configuration
changes. Proceed as follows:

1. Select the “Configure” tab.

2. If ValVue is not in Setup mode, click on “Change Mode,”

select Setup and click “OK.”

3. The associated Configure Screen will be displayed as shown

in the figure below.

 4. Adjust the appropriate configuration parameters.

• Tag Name and Descriptor – click in field and change

• Language – select from drop down list

• Pressure Units – select from drop down list

• Position Fault Limits – click in field and change for

Position Error Band, select checkbox for Time and
change time value in displayed field

• Characterization – select radio button

• Air Action – select radio button

• Button Lock – select radio button

• Bumpless Transfer – select checkbox to enable

• Near Closed Value (%) – click in field and change

• Position Limits – select checkboxes for all applicable

 Saving configuration changes
1. After you make any configuration changes, the “Apply”
button becomes enabled.

2. To save the changes, click on “Apply.”

Calibration
If the unit was pre-installed on an actuator, it is not necessary to
perform any calibrations. ValVue must be in setup mode to make
calibration changes. Proceed as follows:

1. Select the “Calibrate” tab.

2. T. he associated Calibrate Screen will be displayed as shown in

the figure below.

3. If ValVue is not in Setup mode, click on “Change Mode,”

select Setup and click “OK.”

4. Run Input Signal calibration by clicking on “Calib. Signal.”

 5. Run Current Pressure calibration by clicking on “Calib. Pressure.”

6. Set PID parameters by clicking on “Advanced Parameters,”

launching a dialog box to change parameters.

7. Set Open Stop Adjustments by entering in the field, changing

the value and then clicking “Set Open Stop Adj.”

8. When you change PID parameters the “Apply” button

becomes enabled. You must click “Apply” to save and apply
advanced parameter changes.

Run Find Stops/Autotune

On the Calibrate screen you can also run find stops and autotune. To
run find stops or autotune:

1. Right click anywhere on the Calibrate Screen.

2. The Calibrate context menu, shown in the figure below will

be displayed.

3. Select either “Run Find Stops” or “Run Autotune” and

follow the dialog box instructions.

Reports
ValVue provides the ability to extract information about a HART device
operation and dump the information into a report format. When ValVue
extracts the information from a device it requires a template file into
which to dump the data. To generate a report with ValVue you need a
report template file that includes the parameters you would like to in-
clude in the report as well as personalization. ValVue provides a report
template file but you can also create your own. Reports are created on
the Monitor Screen; first select the Monitor tab and associated screen.

There are three basic steps to create reports:

1. Setup the report – use the default report template or create

a report template file

2. Select the report setup (report template file) – using the

Report Setup command from the Monitor Context Menu.

3. Generate the report – using the Report command from the

Monitor Context Menu.

 Setting up a report
ValVue provides a default report template file:

C:\Program Files\DFC\ValVue 2\SVI2AP\Report\SVI2APFullReport.rtf

You can also create your report template report by creating a rich text
format (RTF). The default template is located in C:\Program Files\DFC\
ValVue 2\SVI2\Report\SVI2FullReport.rtf.

Prior to selecting the setup of the report (ValVue Monitor Context

Menu) you must create the report template file in an rtf format. The
report template should include the operation parameters that you
would like populated in the report.

ValVue will substitute the values of SVI II AP parameters into the text
file wherever it finds a parameter name that matches an SVI II AP
parameter. For each parameter you would like included in the report
place $$ in front of the parameter name.

For example:

Tag = $$Tag

ValVue will substitute the actual tag name from the SVI II AP in place
of the $$Tag in the report.

When creating the report template file, you should use an application
that can save the report template file to an rtf or text file such as
WordPad, Microsoft Word, or Notepad.

Note: rtf files are preferred as you can apply special formatting to the
file that can contain fonts, sizes, tabs, etc. and bitmaps. Some .rtf
formatting is accepted in Word which is not available in WordPad.

 Running a report
To run the report you must first designate the report template file, or
Report Setup, and then generate the report. Both Report Setup and
Report (generate) are accessed from the Monitor Screen context menu
as shown in the figure below, by right clicking on the Monitor Screen.

When you access “Report Setup” ValVue launches the dialog box
displayed below. There are two items which you need to complete
in this dialog box:

• Report Template File Name

• Report Program to use

 To generate a report:

On the Monitor Screen select “Report” from the right click, context
sensitive menu.

The following dialog box will be displayed:

Running a diagnostic signature

ValVue HART allows you to view and execute diagnostic information
on the Diagnostics Screen. Access the screen by selecting the “Diagnostics”
tab. The Diagnostics Screen shown in the figure below displays
positioner tag information, the current continuous diagnostics
information (updated every time the Diagnostics Screen is selected).
It provides access to the diagnostic tests, and displays test results in
the Results window.

From the Diagnostics screen the user can run Standard Actuator
Signature tests, Step Response tests, Ramp tests, and Extended
Actuator Signature tests.

 ValVue HART allows four diagnostic tests to be performed:

• Standard Actuator Signature (/AD)

• Step Test (ISD, /AD)

• Ramp Test (ISD, /AD)

• Extended Actuator Signature (/AD)

Performing diagnostic tests

Performing a diagnostic test is as simple as:

1. Select the test you would like to perform.

2. Adjust the test parameters if necessary.

3. Click “Perform Diag.” (Perform Diagnostics).

 On-Line Help
For more information about getting started click on the Help button
located in the lower right corner of the ValVue main screen. In fact help
is available for every ValVue dialog by simply clicking on the Help
button or Help menu selection, depending on the dialog. The F1 key
also provides help for most active dialogs.
