Because its played on ice w hich is a fast moving surface.

2. Why do some people criticize ice hockey?

They criticise it for being too violent.

3. What is a power play and how does it help to minimise the

violence?

Its when a player is taken off the ice and the other team has a man
extra. This means if a player is violent, his team has to play with less
players.

twenty minutes each.

Some people dont like hockey criticize it for being too
violent

because youre allowed to hit the other players under certain

conditions

. Not random violence, but the personthe player carrying the puck
he can, whats called check him, and thats kind of like
him,
hitting

but theres only

ways you can hit him. And theres .. erm a

certain

tendency for

, but its only somesome teams are more

fighting

violent than others and its just

of the game. Ifif a player

part

checks another player illegally he gets a penalty, and that means

hes
the ice for two minutes, or maybe even five
taken

off

minutes, and the other team will have a man

, and that would

advantage

be called a power play . And

if
obviously

youre in a power play, youre have a good chance of

a goal.
