Tutoring in Writing Joint Conference; Fall 2014
Abstract: Using Moscow High School and the University of Idaho as a case study, this project explores
how to successfully bridge the gap in writing expectations between secondary and higher education
by introducing student writing resources in high schools similar to that of universities. Through
collaboration with a local university, high school writing centers receive initial instruction in tutoring
practices, access to resources for writing issues, and stability upon inception. (unable to attend due to
financial constraints)
Notable Coursework:
Rhetorical Analysis Research Project: Conducted semester-long study of university writing
education for an upper division English course. Work included multiple written pieces. Analyzed
writing-across-the-disciplines practices to study the most effective ways for students to learn fieldspecific writing. Project included both secondary and primary research (self-produced student
surveys, interviews) to determine potential adjustments to the UI first-year writing courses English
101 and 102. (English 309: Advanced Prose Analysis; Spring 2014).
Notable Coursework continued
Historical Research Project: Extended research into Marilyn E. Hegartys term patriotute.
Specifically, examined the role of female sexuality during World War II to analyze how the US
government simultaneously promoted and repressed American female sexuality during the war,
