Former Adair County janitor charged with assaulting girls

STILWELL A former Cave Springs school district science aide and janitor who told authorities he needed help staying away from
children has been charged with five counts of lewd molestation.
Sampson Dick Shell, 68, of Bunch, was charged in Adair County District Court on Thursday. He is free on a $75,000 bond, jail officials
said.
Shell admitted to sexually assaulting two female students, both minors. He also confessed to other sexual incidents involving other
children, according to an arrest affidavit.
There are allegations of other sexual assaults in other school districts, said Capt. Jarrod Brown of the Adair County sheriffs office.
Brown said an October 2013 incident was reported to the previous school administration, but officials did not contact the state
Department of Human Services or the sheriffs office.
The previous school officials did not believe the victims, who were around 11 and 12 years old, Brown said.
The mother of one of the victims reported the assault in May to the sheriffs office and Browns investigative report was turned over to
the Adair County district attorney the same month, he said.
Shell left the Cave Springs school district at the same time, Brown said.
The arrest affidavit states Shell left the school after the first allegations, but was later rehired as a science aide.
Shell was showing up at the schools ball games and later went to the new superintendent saying no charges were filed and was wanting
a job, Brown said.
This prompted current Cave Springs Superintendent Geary Brown to ask questions about the incident.
Jarrod Brown said he then directed the superintendent to the district attorneys office.
Cave Springs is closed this week for Thanksgiving holiday and Geary Brown does not have a listed telephone number.
Cave Springs has a school population of 190 students and is in the rural community of Bunch, which is about 100 miles southeast of
Tulsa.
