SEMI-CIRCLE CONJECTURE
ADV GEOMETRY | PACKER COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE

Directions: Pick any point on the semicircle. With a ruler or straightedge, carefully draw
two line segments from both endpoints of the diameter of the semicircle to the point
you chose on the semicircle. Do this again for various points on the semicircle.

One of the most important things you can learn how

to do in mathematics is to play around with things.
Notice patterns, and then make conjectures.
You made a conjecture with the paper folding
activity on the first day. You conjectured that the
angle formed from where you made the two folds
will always be a right angle. It seemed to always
work!
Look at all the drawings you made on the previous
page. From them, write down a mathematical
conjecture. Try to state it so that it is clear to someone who is not in this class:
__________________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Now see if you can figure out a reason why this pattern seems to hold. Write out your
thoughts/work below!
