Jr. high teams preparing for first
track season as the EA Wolves Another season of running, jumping, and throwing is upon us. The jr. high tracksters have taken to the track in Tarkio, getting into shape for the upcoming season opener, which is April 7 at Mound City. This year, the Tarkio and Fairfax athletes have joined forces and are competing as the East Atchison Wolves. The girls are being coached by Ashley Hummel. Thirteen athletes are on the team, including three from Fairfax and 10 from Tarkio. The girls have been running time trials and testing on
field events, trying to figure
out where their strengths are. Of course, theyve also been running to get into shape. Coach Hummel said that this years talent is spread out, with great athletes in all events. She hopes to see the team win the 275 Conference. The 11 boys are coached by Sean Feehan. The team is comprised of six Tarkio and five Fairfax athletes. The team has been working on getting into shape, as well as figuring out which events are best for which athletes. Coach Feehan said that
there are several extremely
athletic eighth graders this year who should lead the team to a great season. He sees the boys doing well in the 275 Conference meet. Coach Feehan is looking forward to this season and seeing the boys be able to not only perform well individually, but as a co-oped team. Track season has arrived
for high school athletes. This year, Tarkio High School and Fairfax High School tracksters will be running, jumping, and throwing as one team, the East Atchison Wolves. This is the first co-oped track team and the athletes are looking forward to a great season as a united force. The first meet is the Rock Port Quad April 7 at 4:30 p.m. Thirteen girls are on the team, with 11 Tarkio and two Fairfax athletes. The girls are coached by Joe Unternahrer. The team has been working on conditioning and getting into track shape and finding their specialties. Coach Unternahrer said that the team should have at least one athlete in each event and in some events, two athletes. He is looking forward to this season, with the girls improving with each meet so that they will peak just in time for the 275 Conference and District events. The boys team has eight members, five from Tarkio and three from Fairfax. The team is coached by Aaron
Behrens. The boys have
been working on getting into shape and honing their skills in their individual events. Coach Behrens said the team is comprised of runners, throwers, and jumpers. There are a few upperclassman athletes that should have a good chance of qualifying for state and there are number of younger athletes to keep an eye on as well.
