DEGREE PROGRAMS
Asia University is a comprehensive university that offers 22 Bachelors, 18 Masters, and 5 Doctoral
programs in five colleges, i.e. Health Science, Computer Science, Management, Creative Design,
and Humanities and Social Sciences. All of these programs are conducted in Chinese. For
international students, moreover, there are 5 Masters and 2 Doctoral English-taught programs.
Nevertheless, international students who are capable of speaking Chinese are encouraged to select
programs conducted in Chinese. In the following lists, Doctoral, Masters, and Bachelors programs
are indicated as D, M, and B, respectively.

ADMISSION INFORMATION
Eligibility - Identity
International students are defined as follows:
Those who have foreign nationality and have never held R.O.C. nationality and also who do not
possess overseas Chinese student status at the time of their applications.
Those who have foreign nationality and have resided overseas (excluding Mainland China,
Hong Kong, and Macau) for more than 6 consecutive years prior to August 1, 2012, and whose
stay in Taiwan per calendar year does not exceed a total of 120 days, must fulfill the following
requirements:
a. In possession of R.O.C. nationality at the time of application, but have never held household
registration in Taiwan since birth.
b. In possession of R.O.C. nationality prior application, but ceased to possess the nationality for
at least 8 years since the date on which a revocation was issued from the Ministry of the
Interior, up to August 1, 2012.
c. In either of the cases as described in the preceding two paragraphs, those who have studied
in Taiwan under the status of an overseas Chinese student and those who have been
accepted for 2012 admission placement by University Entrance Committee for Overseas
Chinese student should be excluded.
Those who once had R.O.C. nationality and applied to renounce R.O.C. nationality (prior to
February 1, 2011) for at least 8 years since the date, on which a revocation was issued from the
Ministry of the Interior, up to September 15, 2012.
Those who have been selected by a foreign government, organization, schools, educational or
cultural group according to the Education Cooperation Framework Agreement and do not hold
the household registration since birth as well as receive the approval from the designated
authorized government educational institutions.
Note: According to Article 2 of the Nationality Law, a person shall have the nationality of the
Republic of China under any of the conditions provided by the following subparagraphs:
1. His/Her father or mother was a national of the Republic of China when he/she was born. The
situation of mother does not apply to those who were born before February 9 (including the 9th),
1980.
2. He/She was born after the death of his/her father or mother, and his/her father or mother was a
national of the Republic of China at the time of death.
3. He/She was born in the territory of the Republic of China, and his/her parents cant be
ascertained or both were stateless persons.
4. He/She has undergone the nationalization process.
Preceding subparagraph 1 and subparagraph 2 shall also apply to the persons who were minors at
the time of the revision and promulgation of this Act.

Undergraduate admissions
International students with high school diplomas are eligible for undergraduate programs.
Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) (or Form 5) students should have equivalent eligibility of a high
school diploma to apply for undergraduate programs. Admitted applicants during their study
are required to take additional courses of at least 12 credits for graduation.
Graduate admissions
International students with Bachelors degrees are eligible for Master programs; and those with
Masters degrees are eligible for Ph.D. programs.
International students who have completed their Bachelors Degree (or above) in Taiwan and
wish to apply for higher education are required to present their diploma and official transcripts
and follow the application procedure.
Violation of any of the abovementioned eligibilities of identity and academic background will
result in immediate cancellation of the applicants admission, or deprivation of the applicants
recognized status as Asia University registered student, or revocation of applicants Asia University
diploma. No certificates will be awarded.
Application Materials
Applicants must submit a complete set of application package consisting of the following items to
the Center for International Academic Exchange by the deadline of admission application.
Two application forms attached with a 2-inch recent ID photo
One copy of the highest-level diploma and official transcript in English or Chinese from the
school you attended
The highest-level diploma and transcript issued by an international education institution must be
authenticated by an ROC embassy, consulate, representative office or other agencies authorized by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Taiwan, ROC., (hereinafter referred to as a Taiwans overseas
representative office) or presented by the applicants former school, which is to be directly mailed to Asia
University in a sealed envelope. Graduating students are not required to hand in the diplomas during the
application. However, once admitted, diploma and academic transcript of the highest academic degree and
authenticated photocopy must be submitted at the time of registration, or admission will be cancelled.

English or Chinese proficiency certificate
Asia University offers degree programs conducted in either English or Chinese. Applicants who select
Chinese-taught programs must submit Chinese proficiency certificate; whereas English proficiency
certificate must be provided if applicants select English-taught programs. Language proficiency is
mandatory to demonstrate adequate listening, reading, speaking, and writing abilities at a certain level for
university academic pursuit. A minimum score of paper-based TOEFL 500, computer-based TOEFL 173,
internet-based TOEFL 61, TOEIC 600, IELTS level 5 or equivalent is required. Applicants shall take
official ETS TOEFL test and authorize ETS to release his/her TOEFL scores to Asia University directly
by completing and submitting the official score report request form to ETS, and the institution code is
2362. An exemption for English proficiency certificate may be granted if applicants have earned a diploma
or degree in an English-speaking country.
For those who select Chinese-taught programs, new TOCFL Level 3 (intermediate), old TOCFL Learner
Level, CEFR B1, new HSK Level 3, old HSK Level 6, or equivalent is the minimum level in Chinese
proficiency. For Vietnamese applicants who choose Chinese-taught programs, the Taipei Economic and

Cultural Offices (TECO) in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have announced new regulations starting
from July 1 of 2012 that only TOCFL test results are accepted for visa application. For detail information,
please visit the official web site at http://www.taiwanembassy.org/vn/. Malaysian applicants who
intend to apply for undergraduate programs must submit Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and/or Unified
Examination Certificate (UEC) with at least a C-grade in Chinese Language Subject.
Important Dates
Applicants who intend to apply for Taiwan Scholarship must send application materials to Asia
University by February 28. The submission deadlines of regular admission application for spring
and fall semesters are listed below. The date of application is determined by the postmark, if the
application is sent by postal mail. Applicants who are unqualified or submit incomplete
documentation in their application will be rejected. In general, applications received after the
deadline will not be processed. Submitted materials are not returned. In the event of special cases,
please directly contact staff of the Center for International Academic Exchange at ciae@asia.edu.tw.

To apply for a valid visa, new international students must provide health certificate and the form
can be obtained at any Taiwan Embassy or Representative Office. Before submitting the certificate
for visa application, a copy of health certificate should be made and turned in to the office of
International College after arrival at school. Otherwise, new students must have a health check and
the fee is NT$1,500 (US$45).
International students are guaranteed a slot (occupancy for four) in on-campus residence halls. The
fee is NT$26,000 (US$840) per academic year, excluding summer and winter breaks.
New international students must apply for an Alien Residence Certificate (ARC). According to the
regulations of National Health Insurance, it is mandatory for international students with ARC to
join the National Health Program after living in Taiwan for four months and to pay monthly health
insurance fee of NT$695. The fee may be subject to change. Therefore, international students must
provide a proof of insurance covering the first four months long from any agencies. After that,

students have to purchase health insurance of six months long from the National Health Program
every semester. In the event that new international students have lived in Taiwan and hold a valid
ARC, it is able to join the Health Insurance Program immediately and pay insurance fee of six
months long every semester.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships provided by Taiwan government, such as
Taiwan scholarship. Moreover, Asia University provides a limited number of scholarships each
year for talented international students. All applicants may have an opportunity to compete for
scholarships, depending on qualification of applicants, program admitted, and available budget.
Applicants who have received Taiwan scholarship are not eligible to receive Asia University
Scholarship.
Taiwan Scholarship
Important regulations regarding Taiwan scholarship are listed as follows; detail information can be
obtained at http://english.moe.gov.tw. Applicants shall submit all required documents, including
the acknowledgement letter of receiving application issued by Asia University, to the nearest
Taiwan Embassy or Representative Office in his/her home country by the end of March.
1. Taiwan Embassy or Representative Offices will provide detail information of scholarship
application (including selection criteria, scholarship types and quotas, application process,
application period) in both Chinese and the local languages by January 31 of each year.
2. In principle, the application period is from February 1st through March 31st of each year.
However, the actual application period will in accordance with dates provided by the local
Taiwan Representative Offices.
3. Applicants must send the following documents within the specified period enclosed with their
application to the nearest Taiwan Embassy or Representative Office in his/her home country.
Failure to include any of these documents renders the application incomplete, and the applicant
will not be further considered for the scholarship, without further notice:
Taiwan Scholarship Application Form (available at the nearest Taiwan Embassy or
Representative Office)
A copy of the applicants passport or other nationality certificates.
A copy of the highest degree and academic transcripts. If issued by international educational
institutions, these documents must be authenticated by an overseas Representative Office or
be sealed and delivered by the awarding institutions. Documents in a language other than
Chinese or English must be translated into Chinese or English and the translated documents
must be authenticated.
A copy of admission application materials to Asia University, e.g. the acknowledgement
letter of receiving application that is issued by Asia University.
A copy of a language proficiency certificate:
Two letters of reference, signed and sealed in envelopes (i.e. from the principals, professors,
or supervisors). Photo copies and email submissions of letters of recommendation will not be
considered.
Additional documents as specified by the individual representative offices.
4. Upon reviewing applications and conducting interviews, the Taiwan Representative Offices will
select successful candidates and alternate candidates which will be placed on a waiting list.
Candidates and Asia University are to be notified by May 31 of each year.

5. Notification of admission is scheduled by June 20. Successful candidates should submit a copy
of the admission letter issued by Asia University to their local Taiwan Representative Office for
verification by June 30 of each year; should candidates fail to submit this letter within the
specified time period, the candidates must submit a written explanation and request verification
from their Representative Offices. Failure to be admitted into Asia University will result in a
suspension from the Scholarship Program. Failure to submit documents within the specified
time period will result in disqualification, and the candidates on the waiting list will be offered a
scholarship. The list of recipients must be finalized no later than July 31st of each year.
To apply for Asia University scholarship, applicants must specify in the application form and
submit it with all required application materials to the Center for International Academic Exchange.
Awarded students in Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral programs are supported for at most four,
two, and three years, respectively. An average score of less than 75 and 80 in previous academic
year for undergraduate and graduate students, respectively, will result in disqualification of
receiving scholarship. To enhance internationalization and cultural exchange on campus, students
awarded the part of monthly stipend are mandatory to participate in activities/services (30 hours
per semester) arranged by the Office of International College.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
Placement Test
Language placement test is in general held after international student orientation at the beginning
of each semester. Admitted students, who select English-taught program but do not provide official
TOEFL score report directly sent from ETS, must take an English placement test, which is a paperbased TOEFL exam held on-campus. Likewise, all admitted undergraduate students are required to
take TOCFL exam, which is a Chinese placement test.
