Upon starting this endeavor, I pray to my Lord for mercy. Enabling the lame to
climb, if He wills, an unqualified person can eloquently present him. I also offer my
obeisances to His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, who gave the entire world
Krishna-prema, and I pray for his blessings to reiterate his message.
People internationally have heard of Krishna. Some hear of Vishnus 8 th
incarnation. Others see a fictional figure, from the literary masterpiece BhagavadGita. But there are others who view him as the summum bonum, beginning and end
of the Vedas, Upanishads, and Puranas, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead,
above everything and everyone.
Shri Krishna has a certain completeness among all the avatars of Vishnu, and
the Devas as well, applying to nobody else. According to sadhus such as Parashar
Muni, Bhagavan is, literally the one who has six opulences in full (strength, wealth,
knowledge, beauty, renunciation, fame). Krishna is unimaginably strong, being able
to lift Govardhan Hill on his finger, and dispatch countless asuras to Yamaloka. And
wealth? According to Brahma Samhita 5.29, Krishna tends Kamadhenu-cows in
Goloka Vrindavan, under wish-granting trees, while being worshipped by hundreds
of thousands of Lakshmis. Anyone who has read the Bhagavad Gita knows that Shri
Krishna is the reservoir of knowledge, but he never gets puffed up, being the best
renunciant. Krishna is famous enough for thousands of temples and murtis.
When it comes to beauty, however, Shri Krishna earns the title of not just
Bhagavan, but Svayam Bhagavan, the Original Personality of Godhead, for he is
unequivocally unique. Krishna allows us to have different types of familiar
relationships, impossible with other deities. We can see him as our friend, as our
brother, as our child, our husband, and even our lover. Other deities have an
overwhelming aura of awe and reverence, making it impossible to experience other

relationships. Imagine trying to worship four-armed Vishnu as your child! Familiarity
makes Krishna accessible to all people, therefore his name means all-attractive.
Ultimately, the only way to understand Krishna is to receive His mercy. Here
again He is different from other deities. They are obligated by the universal rules to
respond to ones devotion and meditation once it has reached fruition, regardless of
intention. But Krishna is held by no such rules, so if He blesses you, it is out of his
own causeless mercy, not your endeavor, which keeps pride from seeping in His
worshippers. This mercy is tangible in His form as spiritual sound (kirtan). It enables
the lame to climb mountains, and an immature adolescent like me to expound
eloquently on His infinite glories. This is what lets me realize my Lord and feel any
love for Him.
