Official Contest Rules

The San Diego Armed Services YMCA and National Charity League are proud to
sponsor our 2008 Operation Boot Camp. We are collecting goodies and assembling
them into thousands of Care Packages benefiting women and men from all five branches
of the military including deployed National Guard and reservists. We will be selecting
one service member from each branch of the military as our honorees. These special
individuals will be slated to receive hundreds of care packages in his or her honor,
on behalf of their unit. These care packages will be delivered to each of the five
honorees, between June 15th and July 15th 2008. We are seeking to recognize exemplary
service members who demonstrate those qualities of character and mind that
embrace individual responsibility, team support, and comradeship. We are looking
for the ordinary service member who does the extraordinary simply by being
themselves. These individuals are reliable, dependable, and have earned the respect
of their unit members.

1. All entries must be received by 5 o’clock pm Pacific Standard Time on May 1,

2008. The honorees will be selected by a panel of judges who work with the San
Diego Armed Services YMCA and Board Members of the Del Sol Chapter of the
National Charity League.
2. Please send in a succinct one page statement, 500 words or less (count them!)
single spaced and typed, detailing why your deployed service member should be
selected as a deserving recipient on behalf of his or her unit. Be specific. Capture
the essence of the character traits of the person you are nominating. We
encourage you to nominate yourself, or someone you know well.
• Provide the name of your deployed service member, location deployed to,

• Please provide your first and last name, company/organization name,
street address, city, state/ province, zip code/ postal code, country, e-mail
address and phone number so we may notify you and the selected
honorees.
3. Email your submissions to:
Limit of one entry per person (however, no limit on the number of entries
received on behalf on any one service member).
4. Each selected honoree will receive care packages on behalf of his or her unit, to
be delivered around the Fourth of July and to be distributed by the honoree.
5. All contest entries will become the property of Armed Services YMCA and National
Charity League Del Sol Chapter and will not be returned. By entering this contest,
participants grant Armed Services YMCA and National Charity League Del Sol
Chapter the exclusive right to use letters submitted to promote this benefit.
6. Eligibility: Any man, woman, child, civilian, or service member may submit an entry
on behalf of themselves or another service member. This contest is open to any
service member who will be deployed between June 15 and July 15 2008. All five

Thank you for your participation! Time is of the essence!

P.S.

This event is spearheaded as the finale during the USS Midway’s Legacy
Week. NCL is an organization that is devoted to passing the tradition of
philanthropy and community service from mother to daughter through dedicated
and focused volunteerism. The Moms and daughters of the Del Sol Chapter of
NCL, located in the San Diego area, will ALL be coordinating this event on behalf
of the Armed Services YMCA, with the cooperation and support of the USS
Midway and the US Postal Service.

This event is being spearheaded by Desiree Bagby, a 15 year old high

school sophomore, who has given up her favorite sport, Lacrosse, in order to
make this dream reality. Desiree is a scholar-athlete, earning first place in the
Countywide Science Fair! She was the only freshman to participate in 3 varsity
sports while also earning a place on the honor roll. She is CPR certified, and is
completely dedicated to community service. She is also learning to be a
confident public speaker! Her Mom, Lara, is co-chairing the event.
