Sound Cues f or Voices


Beginning
• Actor Breath Motives, moving the space, 1 time through
• Kate and Greta on 2 notes (G and D), actors wait for pitch
• Jen text from Lament for Witches — as if from the wind
o “Who are the witches now
Look in the mirror tonight
Would they have hanged you then?
Ask how they’re stopping you now
Where have all the witches gone”
• Continue to hold notes until actors are in place

Scene 6
• End of Scene 5: “Just tell her my trouble, there’s no harm”
• Oh, Doct or --Verse 1 begins at transition, continued through action
• Layered harsh whispers
• Begin Verse 2 starting after Betty: “…. because I was screaming”
• Leave space for “womb”
• End when verse done, and wait….
• Begin fade out transition (hmmm… 3 notes) after
Doctor: “You will soon be well enough to be married”

Susan: “Don’t touch me, I’ll not be touched by a witch”

PART 1
• Bellringer: “has any complaint against any woman for a witch”
• In Round: Kate 1-5, add Jen 2x with b6th, add Greta 3x with 7th oooo
• Once all in~~ hold chord cluster, subito piano, staggered breath
• End at Packer: “I thank God that he has brought me again to where I
am needed”

PART 2
~Joan~ “if you prick that place with a pin no blood comes out and the
witch feels nothing at all”
• Jack: “Hold still you old witch”
• Greta and Jen Breath Motive
• End at Packer “Here’s her spot. / Hardly a speck here”

~Alice~ “we’ve others to attend to….next please”


• With continuing breath, add Kate with gradually more intense
wavering notes at Alice’s entrance, begin when hands hit boxes
• End at Packer: “Oh, its tiring work. / Set this one aside.”

PART 3
• Susan: “I never wished any harm”
• Jen and Kate start note cycle, Greta on Breath Motive
