Proposed Dermatology Training Program
Postgraduate Diploma in Dermatology by the Academy of Family Physicians
of Malaysia.
This is a distant learning course. There will be 3 Modular Clinical workshop and
seminar.
Candidates will be provided with instructive module texts beginning from the
fundamentals, to the art, real time practice and concepts of dermatology.
Objective
To provide the physicians with a structured educational experience in dermatology
with an opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for the diagnosis and treatment
of common conditions involving the skin and accessory structures.

Certificate in Primary Care Dermatology by The University of Queensland,
Australia.
Overview
This comprehensive course has been designed by Dermatologists for GPs to help
them diagnose and optimally manage common skin conditions. This course aims to
cover the major Dermatology subjects that GPs find themselves confronted with on
a daily basis. This two-day workshop will cover modes of presentation, relevant
investigations and management of all of the common skin conditions from acne,
rosacea, eczema, psoriasis through to drug rashes, hair loss and common cosmetic
complaints.
This workshop is presented by Dermatologists, Dr Alex Chamberlain along with
his team of lecturers and Dermatologists. The presentations will be richly
illustrated with clinical examples after all Dermatology is a very visual discipline.
There will be opportunity for interactive discussion as well as opinions on cases
provided by the delegates.
Program Objectives
The certificate course will provide the clinician with a range of skills at an
introductory level including:
Improved familiarity with common skin, hair and nail problems
Improved recognition of significant dermatoses including those that deserve
immediate action
Improved management skills of common dermatoses
Improved familiarity with common dermatological investigations
Improved familiarity with novel dermatological therapies
Familiarity with identifying patients that should be referred to a
dermatologist

The course includes:
2 day weekend practical workshop.
Full colour folder including reference materials and all PowerPoint slides
presented.
Post workshop online assessment to be completed in your own time within
three months of attending the workshop segment of the course.
Pre-Workshop Activity
To prepare the participant there is a short series of 50 multiple choice questions
completed online at any time prior to the workshop segment. The questions are not
marked as part of the assessment and provide instant answers.
Course Delivery
The two day workshop of the course is presented by specialists and industry
professionals in an interactive and case based program including the use of
wireless audience responders.

Private practice "Glenferrie Dermatology" in Malvern
Dr Alex Chamberlain graduated from Monash University in 1993
and worked as a Research Fellow at The Alfred/VMS in 1999,
conducting several studies into the epidemiology of thick
melanoma and the typical presentation of nodular melanoma.
This body of research attracted a number of research awards and
has helped attract attention to this particularly aggressive
melanoma subtype. He completed his dermatology training in
2004, after spending two years as Clinical Research Fellow at the
Department of Dermatology, Churchill Hospital, Oxford in 2001
and 2002. He completed a further fellowship in Derrmoscopy and
multi-disciplinary skin cancer management at Oxford in 2007.
He is on the editorial board of the Australasian Journal of
Dermatology and is currently a visiting consultant to the
Victorian Melanoma Service at The Alfred, Outreach clinics to
Tasmania and has a private practice "Glenferrie Dermatology" in
Malvern.
Assessment Requirements
This course features an online assessment requirements comprising multiple choice
questions. The assessment is to be completed within three months of the
completion of the workshop.
The open book exams are designed in such a way that they do not have to be
completed in one sitting with the ability of multiple logging in and out sessions.
Certificates are processed at the end of the month in which the assessment is
completed.
