SUMMER SEASON AT MACROBERT ARTS CENTRE

ANNOUNCED
As the Easter holidays come to an end Macrobert Arts Centre is gearing up for the new
summer season, having just released a new brochure complete with full details of the
exciting and varied programme of live events and opportunities to get involved.
With everything from an outside Shakespeare experience from Bard in the Botanics (Loves
Labours Lost 5 July), to The Lady Boys of Bangkoks new show (Beauties and the Beats
7, 8 & 9 Sep); a new production of Arthur Millers All My Sons (17 & 18 Sep) to up and
coming comedian Jamie MacDonald (25 Sep); An Evening of Dirty Dancing: The Tribute
Show (4 Oct) and a one day festival of modern moves and ferocious fun (Pioneers of
Performance 26 Sep).
There is also a great selection of performances for children and young people including Hup
for ages 0 to 2 (10 May), The Edibles (30 May), Shona Reppes Magic Sho (19 Sep), Bear
and Butterfly from Theatre Hullabaloo (14 Oct) and Visible Fictions Friends Electric (16
Oct).
Before the new season kicks off, there are still a couple of highlights in the spring
programme to enjoy, including Johnny McKnight in a new drama about sequins, secrets and
survival And the Beat Goes On (23 & 24 April). There is also the annual Macrobert Gala
Evening on 23 May which is shaping up to be a fabulous night on the town. It starts with a
champagne reception, followed by some great entertainment like the Edinburgh Quartet
and All or Nothing Aerial Dance, the Kenyan Warriors and a selection of other top cabaret
acts. Plus theres a late supper, dancing and the chance to meet Macroberts new Artistic
Director, Julie Ellen.
OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED
Alongside the ongoing programme of art, dance, drama and film classes and workshops on
offer at Macrobert Arts Centre details are now available of summer opportunities for
children and families. These include A Show in a Week (20 24 July), offering young people
in S1 and above the chance to devise, rehearse and stage a performance to be proud of
and a week-long art and sport summer school for P4 to P7 delivered in partnership with the
University of Stirlings Sport Centre. There is also a selection of creative experiences for
ages 2 to 6 and their grown-ups including art, dance and music workshops and a story trail,
with the sessions running on Wednesdays throughout July and lasting about forty five
minutes.
