WE MET OUR SCHOOL AR

GOAL!
Mr. Meyer challenged
Rockport Elementary to
r e a c h 7, 0 0 0 A R
(Accelerated Reading)
points by the end of the
school year.
We accepted that
challenge and we have already
exceeded 7,000 points needed. The
students are very excited, because
now they get to prank Mr. Meyer.
Many ideas have been suggested like:
having Mr. Meyer kiss a pig,
taping him to a wall, throwing
pies at him, coloring his hair
with non-permanent hair dye,
having him dress like a girl and
the list goes on and on. This prank
will take place near the end of the
school year. Mr. Meyer, I would be
getting nervous!!!

the case of an emergency. Also, it is

required that we have a current address.

any questions or concerns, please feel free

COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS MOMENT

Greetings Rockport Families!
It is so hard to believe that we have only 34 days of school left! During that time we
will wrap up ISTEP and we will prepare for the coming year. There will be
celebrations and great weather which should keep us all in a springy mood! We will
have Spring Carnival and hope everyone can make it. Words cannot express my
gratitude for each and every one of you. As my first year as Principal draws to a
close I have been thinking about what an amazing year it has been. I took into this
position with one thing in mind, make Rockport a safe and academically strong
school where students, parents, teachers, and all community members feel valued,
loved, and respected. Since my arrival the support that you have shown me during
my time here means more than I could ever express or explain to you. I want you to
know I do not take this responsibility lightly or for granted. Educating your
child(ren) and providing a safe place for them to learn is more than a job for me. It is
an honor that I cherish and do not take lightly. Daily I am reminded of what an
awesome responsibility it is and you have my word that I
wake up and go to sleep with these guiding questions, F o l l o w
What can I do to make Rockport the best school it can be u s o n
for our students? and How can Rockport better serve Twitter
the community? Thank you for trusting me and growing
with me, and as always thank you for the opportunity to @RockportElem
educate your child!

BETTER
CONCENTRATION
Looking for a fun way to
improve your youngsters
concentration? Try this
quick game. The first player
makes one motion, like
clapping or spinning
around. The second person
copies him and adds
another movement.
Continue adding new
motions until someone
forgets the sequence. The
last player to get it right
starts a new game.

A Recipe for Respect

others. Heres how you can

encourage your youngster
to do the same.
Demonstrate-Your child
will learn respectful
behavior by watching the
way you treat others. When
she makes a mistake, for
instance, gently tell her
what shes done wrong and
out of earshot of others.
Also, let her see you
respect ideas and beliefs
that are different from
your own. For example,
point out that youre happy
a friend is voting in an
election even though you

that youve noticed (I

like the way you asked
your sister before
borrowing her sweater).
Your words and attention
will encourage her to
show respect in the
future.
Tip: If you see
disrespectful behavior on
TV (a child rolling his
eyes or talking back to a
parent), tell your
youngster that isnt okay
in real life. Then, ask her
to be on the lookout for
respectful actions by
characters. How many
can she spot before the
program ends?

At Rockport, our
school community has
a commitment to:
Increased academic

achievement
Developing positive
relationships by practicing
mutual respect
Celebrating the diversity of
learning styles and
cultures
Providing a safe
environment Where each
child, each day, is a
success!

ISTEP Round 2

Kindergarten
Excite Night
Kindergar ten mark s the star t of
elementary school for many children
and is one of the most important times
in a childs life. We at Rockpor t
Elementary recognize this fact and want
to make your childs transition as
seamless as possible. Our dedicated and
talented Kindergarten teachers
consistently bring high growth rates for
our students pushing students who come
in with high academic skill level and
bringing other students up to speed. I
believe that all of our Kindergarteners
who move to the 1st grade do so with a
wonderful experience as well as
strong academic skills. One of
the new ways we would like to
help families transition to our
school is through our Excite Night
and orientation.

We will kick off the second round of

ISTEP testing in the coming weeks. We
have an exciting musical performer to
get the students excited to perform their
best on the test. The following week
April 27th will start this second round of
ISTEP testing.
Choose to Do well
True or False: standardized tests are
tough. The
answer depends on how
prepared you youngster is. Here are
three ways to help him or her handle
test week:
Explain that the test will show how
much they have learned. Encourage
them to try their best, but dont put so
much emphasis on them that they feel
stressed.
Limit activities the night before
tests. You may want to avoid
having guests for dinner or skip
a siblings game if it means being
out late. Be sure your child gets to
bed on time and sets an alarm for the
next morning.
On test day, give them encouragement
before they leave the house and if they
eat at home include both proteins (eggs,
yogurt, milk) and carbohydrates (fruit,
oatmeal, toast).
