NEWDELHI:ThegovernmenthasreceivedatotalupfrontpaymentofoverRs32,300crore
fromtelecomplayersagainstthespectrumsoldduringtheMarchauction,wellabovethe
minimumoutstandingdueofRs28,835.34crore.TelecommajorBhartiAirtelhaspaidthe
entiresumforRajasthanandNorthEastcircles.
TheDepartmentofTelecom(DoT)hasreceivedRs32,377.85crore,nearlyRs3,500crore
abovetheminimumdue,sourcessaid.BhartiAirtel,thecountry'slargesttelecomoperator,
haspaidRs11,374.7crore,whiletheupfrontamountduefromitwasRs7,832.20crore.All
othertelecomoperatorshavepaidtheminimumamountduefromthem.
Thebankguaranteeshavealsobeenreceivedasperdemand,theysaid.India'sbiggest
telecomspectrumauctionendedonMarch25after19daysoffiercebiddingthatfetched
bidsworthaboutRs1.10lakhcroretothegovernment.
Afterthecompletionoftheauction,TelecomMinisterRaviShankarPrasadmadeanappeal
toallsuccessfulcompaniestomakepayments.Theproceedsfromtheauctionofairwaves
areexpectedtohelpthegovernmentkeepthefiscaldeficitwithinthetargetof4.1percent
oftheGDP,oraboutRs5.12lakhcrore,for201415.
