Management
Information
System (MIS)
How MIS helps Business Organisation:A management information system gives the business managers the information that they
need to take decisions. Early business computers were used for simple operations such as
tracking inventory, billing, sales, or payroll data, with little detail or structure. Over time,
these computer applications became more complex, hardware storage capacities grew, and
technologies improved for connecting previously isolated applications. As more data was
stored and linked, managers sought greater abstraction as well as greater detail with the aim
of creating significant management reports from the raw, stored data. Originally, the term
"MIS" described applications providing managers with information about sales, inventories,
and other data that would help in managing the enterprise. Over time, the term broadened to
include: decision
support
systems, resource
management and human
resource
management, enterprise
resource
planning (ERP), enterprise
performance
management (EPM), supply
chain
management (SCM), customer
relationship
management (CRM), project management and database retrieval applications.
An MIS supports a business' long range plans, providing reports based upon performance
analysis in areas critical to those plans, with feedback loops that improve guidance for every
aspect of the enterprise, including recruitment and training. MIS not only indicates how
various aspects of a business are performing, but also why and where. MIS reports include
near-real-time performance of cost centers and projects with detail sufficient for individual
accountability.
Management and organizations facing constantly changing problems, diverse managerial
styles, and ever present information needs offer a challenging context for developing
computer based information systems. MIS uses computer technology to provide information
and decision support to managers, helping them becomes more effective. Developments in
the young computer industry are changing corporate management style.
Managers at all levels use similar data. Operating managers require data which is timely,
precise, detailed, internal and historical. Upper level managers need data which is aggregated,
external as well as internal, future oriented as well as historical and covering a longer span
time. An effective MIS cannot be built without viable data management tools. Such tools
were not generally available previously. Moreover, most organizations did not effectively use
DBMS technology until two decades before. An important key to a successful MIS is the
effective
management
of
an
organization's
data
resources.
Volkswagen (abbreviated VW) is a German automobile manufacturer and the original and
biggest-selling marque of the Volkswagen Group. It has three cars in the top 10 list of bestselling cars of all time.
These web pages give brief description about Volkswagen company
about their model of cars and all types like economic and luxuries cars and their price, look,
interiors and some information about their performance.
HTML is a language for describing web pages.
H-T-M-L are initials that stand for Hyper Text Markup Language (computer people
love initials and acronyms -- you'll be talking acronyms ASAP). Let me break it down
for you:
Hyper is the opposite of linear. It used to be that computer programs had to move in a
linear fashion. This before this, this before this, and so on. HTML does not hold to
that pattern and allows the person viewing the World Wide Web page to go anywhere,
any time they want.
Text is what you will use. Real, honest to goodness English letters.
Mark up is what you will do. You will write in plain English and then mark up what
you wrote. More to come on that in the next Primer.
Language because they needed something that started with "L" to finish HTML and
Hypertext Markup Louie didn't flow correctly. Because it's a language, really -- but
the language is plain English.

Hardware & Software
Requirement
Hardware Requirement
Hardware is a general term that refers to the physical components of technology. This applies
to any physical part (device) of a computer, such as the CPU, monitor, hard drives, and so
forth. Hardware is anything that can be physically handled.
Recommended Hardware

Software Requirement
The importance of Software Requirements and Specifications
Most web site projects include a body of information that describes the product or the project
deliverables which deals with the objectives of the final product, defined in the project
requirements (or software requirement specifications), and any rules for creating the product,
defined in the project specifications.
A key benefit of developing a software requirement specification is in streamlining the
development process. The developer working from the software requirement specification
has; ideally, all of their questions answered about the application and can start to develop.
Since this is a functional specification that was client approved, they are building nothing less
than what the customer wants. There should be nothing left to guess or interpret when the
functional spec is completed. This is the brilliance of the software requirement specification.
There are a number of ways to create your HTML or XHTML pages. Purists will never use
a WYSIWYG editor and will write the pages in a plain text editor. This can be a normal,
everyday editor (such as Notepad or Wordpad) or a dedicated HTML editor, with tools to
make the job easier.
Notepad
Notepad is a simple text editor for Microsoft Windows. It has been included in all
versions of Microsoft Windows since Windows 1.0 in 1985.
Notepad is a common text-only (plain text) editor. The resulting filestypically saved
with the .txt extensionhave no format tags or styles, making the program suitable
for editing system files that are to be used in a DOS environment.
Notepad supports both left-to-right and right-to-left based languages, and one can
alternate between these viewing formats by using the right or left Ctrl+Shift keys to
go to right-to-left format or left-to-right format, respectively.
Early versions of Notepad offered only the most basic functions, such as finding text.
Newer versions of Windows include an updated version of Notepad with a search and
replace function (Ctrl + H), as well as Ctrl + F for search and similar keyboard shortcuts
Notepad accepts text from the Windows clipboard. When clipboard data with multiple
formats is pasted into Notepad, the program will only accept text in
the CF_TEXT format. This is useful for stripping embedded font type and style codes
from formatted text, such as when copying text from a web page and pasting into an
email message or other WYSIWYG text editor. The formatted text is temporarily
pasted into Notepad, and then immediately copied again in stripped format to be
pasted into the other program.
Simple text editors like Notepad may be used to edit text with markup, such
as HTML. However, because they lack many features (such as syntax highlighting),
web developers may favor more specialized editors for this purpose
2. Internet Explorer
Most people agree that HTML documents should work well across different browsers and
platforms. Achieving interoperability lowers costs to content providers since they must
develop only one version of a document. If the effort is not made, there is much greater risk
that the Web will devolve into a proprietary world of incompatible formats, ultimately
reducing the Web's commercial potential for all participants.
Each version of HTML has attempted to reflect greater consensus among industry players so
that the investment made by content providers will not be wasted and that their documents
will not become unreadable in a short period of time.
HTML has been developed with the vision that all manner of devices should be able to use
information on the Web: PCs with graphics displays of varying resolution and color depths,
cellular telephones, hand held devices, devices for speech for output and input, computers
with high or low bandwidth, and so on.
What is HTML?

HTML Tags
HTML markup tags are usually called HTML tags
HTML tags are keywords (tag names) surrounded by angle brackets like <html>
The first tag in a pair is the start tag, the second tag is the end tag
The end tag is written like the start tag, with a forward slash before the tag name
Start and end tags are also called opening tags and closing tags.

HTML Document Life Cycle
There are many routes to developing a website, different sites often require different
approaches based on the technologies involved. The following outline describes a midsized
Static Custom HTML site, however the process involved in implementing a database driven
system and approached from a dynamic content perspective differs somewhat from this
layout focused development cycle.
Our approach is always customized appropriately to fit the requirements of the new site
and our clients' needs. We always begin the process with a Planning phase followed
by the organizing phase. We lay out the development process in terms of phases of
development as:
Phase 1 Planning
Planning activities are performed for two major reasons: (1) for us to learn more about you
and your organization and (2) to develop a set of requirements that must be met at the
completion of your project. Those requirements fall into two major categories - design and
functionality - and are derived from your answers to questions such as:
Who is your target audience? Information seekers, potential clients, existing clients?
What message are you trying to convey to that audience?
What goals (business or otherwise) are your webs intended to satisfy?
What organizational policies affect the way your web is implemented (are there contractual
limitations with suppliers etc)?
How your web should look (e.g. what corporate logos, graphics, or other materials do you
have available to direct the layout and color scheme)?
What information do you want included as content?
Planning information is captured in your project plan (requirements document). The resultant
checklist of requirements is tracked until your project is complete. Total time for this phase
may vary based on your ability to provide the requested information. This list of deliverables
allows for the budgeting of the project. Any additions to the project after this phase may
impact cost and delivery date.
Phase 2 Organizing: Organizing phase give some ideas about how the files (HTML
documents, images, etc.) in a website can be distributed among directories and how the
resources can refer to each other from these different locations.
Types of organization:
1. Hierarchical organization
2. Linear Organization
3. Webbed Organization
Hierarchical organization: When you organize information in a hierarchical structure, you
present a first group of equally important topics, followed by another group of equally
important topics and so on.
Information hierarchies are the best way to organize most complex bodies of information.
Because web sites are usually organized around a single home page, which then links to
subtopic menu pages. Hierarchical diagrams are very familiar in corporate and institutional
life, so most users find this structure easy to understand. A hierarchical organization also
imposes a useful discipline on your own analytical approach to your content, because
hierarchies are practical only with well-organized material.
Most web sites adopt some form of multi-tiered hierarchical or tree architecture. This
arrangement of major categories and subcategories has a powerful advantage for complex site
organization in that most people are familiar with hierarchical organizations, and can readily
form mental models of the site structure as shown below (fig.3a)
pattern of information use. In this structure the goal is often to mimic associative thought and
the free flow of ideas, allowing users to follow their interests in a unique, heuristic,
idiosyncratic pattern. This organizational pattern develops with dense links both to
information elsewhere in the site and to information at other sites. Although the goal of this
organization is to exploit the webs power of linkage and association to the fullest, weblike
structures can just as easily propagate confusion. Ironically, associative organizational
schemes are often the most impractical structure for web sites because they are so hard for the
user to understand and predict. Webs work best for small sites dominated by lists of links and
for sites aimed at highly educated or experienced users looking for further education or
enrichment and not for a basic understanding of a topic (fig. 3.c).
Figure 3.d Choose the right site structure for your audience and content.
Phase 3: Creating Documents:
Drawing from the information gathered up to this point, its time to work on the creating html
documents.
Target audience is one of the key factors taken into consideration. A site aimed at teenagers,
for example, will look much different than one meant for a financial institution. As part of
this phase, it is also important to incorporate elements such as the company logo or colors to
help strengthen the identity of your company on the web site.
This is typically done by first developing the home page, followed by a shell for the
interior pages. The shell serves as a template for the content pages of your site, as it contains
the main navigational structure for the web site. Once the shell has been created, your
designer will take your content and distribute it throughout the site, in the appropriate areas.
Elements such as interactive contact forms, flash animations or ecommerce shopping carts
are implemented and made functional during this phase, as well.
On the technical front, a successful web site requires an understanding of front-end web
development. This involves writing valid XHTML / CSS code that complies to current web
standards, maximizing functionality, as well as accessibility for as large an audience as
possible.
Phase 4: Testing
During the testing phase, the web implementation is checked in various browsers to ensure
the site functions on varying platforms. The customer is invited (and encouraged) to
participate in this phase along with the The Web Studio development team. This can be
done via a secured web access process that restricts the site from the public. This is another
common milestone where customers want to make changes to the existing requirements (see
planning phase).
Phase 4 - Maintenance and Changes
Maintenance activities include updating content, implementing design changes, and
conducting periodic web testing. You can opt to update your own site. You can also forgo
scheduled maintenance and simply call when necessity knocks. If your web information
changes frequently, we will be more than happy to assist with content management on a longterm basis.
