INT. CAFE - DAY
MELLY and CARTER sit at a table with drinks and pastries.
They have been waiting a long time.
MELLY
Shes not going to show.
CARTER
She said shes on her way.
MELLY
Lizzy has said that everyday. Im
going back to the room today. I
cant keep crashing with you.
CARTER
Be gentle with her. Its really hard
on her. The loss.
MELLY
It was hard on everyone.
CARTER
Melly why dont you take a second
and think about why its harder for
Lizzy than anyone else.
CUT TO BLACK.
A PHONE RINGS
Answering machine picks up call with a CLICK.
LIZZY (V.O.)
Hi youve reached Lizzy Fisher
voice mail, leave a message.
ANSWERING MACHINE BEEP
FADE IN:
INT. COLLEGE DORM ROOM - NIGHT
LIZZY FISHER (19), with short hair to balance out her long
legs, sits curled up in bed with ink stained hands. Taped to
the wall are different pages of writing, all in the same
cursive. Her phone rings for the second time in only a few
moments, she picks it up and looks at the caller ID:
"MOM"

Lizzy ignores the phone call and tosses her phone to the
side and buries her face in a pillow letting out a MUFFLED
SCREAM. She picks up the phone and goes to her voice mail.
MOM (V.O.)
Hey sweetie, you arent answering
your phone and me and your dad are
really worried about you. You dont
have to be at college right now if
you dont think you can handle itLizzy hangs up the phone cutting off the voice message and
lays in her bed looking up at the ceiling for a moment
before closing her eyes.
The PHONE RINGS again.
Lizzy groans and picks up the phone, answering it.
LIZZY
Yes mom. I am alive.
MOM (V.O.)
Well how was I suppose to know
that.
LIZZY
Yeah I know. I dont answer the
phone.
MOM (V.O.)
You need to try something. You need
to start moving on.
LIZZY
Im trying.
MOM (V.O.)
Im taking you out of school. You
dont sleep, you dont eat- honey
its not good.
LIZZY
Mom! Im writing in the book. Im
okay.
MOM (V.O.)
Lizzy- please- that book is not
healthy.
LIZZY
Goodbye mom.

Lizzy hangs up the phone and picks up a very full journal.
She writes in it- curvy letters flowing into each other and
creating words. As she writes she looks around the room,
searching for someone. DANNY(19), the gentle giant sort,
appears sitting next to her on the bed.
DANNY
Hey bear, looking for me?
LIZZY
I told you not to call me bear.
DANNY
But you are my Lizzy Bear.
LIZZY
I know. I miss you. So much.
DANNY
(confused)
Im right here.
LIZZY
I knowA KNOCK on the door disrupts her conversation. She looks at
the door. She glance back to Danny, but he is gone. She
opens the door, on edge.
Outside the door stands Melly holding a school bag.
MELLY
Lizzy, hi.
LIZZY
(Frantic.)
No! No! What are you doing here?
MELLY
Im your roommate. I stayed away to
give you time, but I need to be in
my own space.
Lizzy walks away and sits at her desk, facing away from
Melly. Melly disappears into the bathroom and Lizzy starts
writing furiously. Danny appears next to her.
DANNY
Bear whats wrong?
LIZZY
Youre gone. They are trying to
take you away from me.

DANNY
But Im right here. Im not ever
going to leave you.
LIZZY
But I hurt. My hands hurt. I cant
win.
DANNY
Stay with me bear. Please.
LIZZY
My hands... my eyes
Lizzy holds out shaking ink and graphite stained hands.
DANNY
Stay with me Lizzy. please Lizzy...
pleaseLizzys vision blurs and shakes as Melly grabs her by the
shoulders, shaking her. A pen falls from her hand.
LIZZY
What? Wheres Danny? Mel, wheres
Danny?
MELLY
Lizzy, Lizzy focus. Dannys dead.
LIZZY
No he wants me to stay with him.
MELLY
No, no. You have to be here with
us. We need you here. Please, we
cant lose you too.
LIZZY
He can be here though! I can write
him perfectly. He wants to be here.
Here with me.
MELLY
Lizzy stop. You cant bring him
back. You dont have too. This
isnt your fault.
LIZZY
I was driving.

MELLY
We were hit by another car. The
other driver was drunk.
Lizzy face twists in confusion and she hugs Melly tightly.
INT. PARKED CAR - A NEW DAY
Lizzy sits in the drivers seat. She takes out her notebook
and loose papers filled with memories and fantasies of her
lost friend Danny. She uncaps a pen and opens to a clean
page.
LIZZY
This is your favorite place.
DANNY
Dont you mean was.
LIZZY
I-I am saying goodbye.
DANNY
I dont want to leave you.
LIZZY
I want to leave. I cant have you
like this anymore.
DANNY
No- No please. Lizzy. Lizzy BearLizzy closes her eyes.
CUT TO BLACK.
Fade In:
INT. PARKED CAR - CONTINUOUS
Lizzy, sitting alone in her car, drops her pen and looks
down at everything shes written.
EXT. STREET - CONTINUOUS
She gets out of the car, taking the book with her and walks
to where pavement turns to sand.
EXT. BEACH - CONTINUOUS
She walks out into the sand and drops to her knees and
starts digging a hole. When its deep enough she places the
papers and notebook there, covers it, and stands up.

She pulls out her phone and dials a number.

LIZZY
Hey, Carter?...Yeah, is Melly with
you too?...great. Yeah I was
wondering if you wanted to come
over and watch a movie tonight.....
CUT TO BLACK.
