Editors note:

NSW mining is an important contributor to

our state economy, and its an exciting
industry to be a part of. There are big
opportunities for advancement as the
industry needs a constant stream of highly
skilled
employees
from
across
all
professions.
NSW
mining
offers
rewarding
career
prospects across the state, and its also the
sort of work that can take you all over the
world. But a career in mining is not just
about working in a mine; the type of work
you could do in mining is really only limited
by your imagination. We have environmental
scientists, surveyors, electricians, truck
drivers, IT experts, geologists, machine
operators, health and safety specialists,
communications
professionals
and
engineers,
just
to
name
a
few.
Pathways into the industry vary: some
careers require apprenticeships while others
require specialised university degrees. Thats
why its important to choose the right
subjects at school to ensure you are on the
right path to the
mining
career
you
want.
The
NSW
Minerals
Council has various
initiatives
to
encourage students into the minerals
industry and provide potential NSW miners
with information about the pathways to a
career in the industry. These include NSW
Mining Scholarships, which provides

eligible high school students across NSW

with a grant for up to three years of study in
a minerals related degree or course, and
Careers in Mining Evenings that offer high
school students a glimpse at what its like to
work in the industry and to learn more about
getting there.

Film
School
courses are specifically
designed to make people
into filmmakers.
The courses combine the teaching of theoretical /
creative processes and practical hands-on film
production, with the emphasis on practice. Initially,
we teach drama through 16mm short film productions
(shot, edited and finished entirely on film) in parallel
with documentary production using entirely digital
technologies.
The classes cover all essential aspects of filmmaking;
from Pre-production (research, script writing,
pitching, casting, production management, design
etc), to Production (crewing, working with actors,
lighting, filming, recording etc) and Post-production
(editing, music, sound mixing copyright, distribution
etc). The practical process is supported with sessions
in Screen Language, Australian Cinema and Meet the
Filmmaker special guest screenings. All equipment and
budgets are supplied.
